Working directly with our customers across national security, defence and commercial you’ll influence important change programmes by supporting decision makers.
Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning
This specialism focuses on the classic components of AI, including perception/machine vision, robotics, natural language processing, knowledge representation and machine learning. It typically includes algorithm developers work with specialist hardware, maths, probability, statistics, algebra, calculus and logic. An interest and understanding of physics, engineering and robotics is also desirable.
Data Science
Our data scientists specialise in data analysis and architecture, database skills, visualisation, big data toolsets, maths and statistics, batch processing, stream processing and appropriate domain knowledge.

Information Assurance & Human Science
The Information Assurance & Human Science teams work on the strategic issues of cyber security, centring on a consultative approach to cyber, including risk management, information assurance, frameworks and standards, business continuity, system architectures, human science and behavioural science, as well as general security consulting.
Cyber & Networks
If you join the Cyber & Networks team you’ll be working on operational cyber, reverse engineering, network hardware and protocols, network security, lawful interception, embedded systems security and security analytics.
Agile Software
Agile software focuses on all aspects of deploying software at pace and scale. Skills include: Database engineering, DevOps, open source operating systems and frameworks, system architecture, data migration, user experience, user interface design, robotic process automation, agile methods, service management and cloud architecture.
Sensors & Communications
Our Sensors & Communications team specialise in the areas of sensor design, mobile technologies, radio/RF engineering, electronics engineering, FPGA and ASIC design, hardware engineering, power management, embedded programming and low SWaP-C design.

A personalised and agile Graduate Development Programme
Whether you’re a recent or soon-to-be graduate, Roke will support you through the next stages of your career.
You’ll learn a breadth of new skills on our two-year Graduate Development Programme (GDP) and gain valuable experience to help you achieve your career aspirations. From the start, you’ll be supporting customer projects or keeping ahead of the curve by creating something entirely new during Roke Innovation Time. By focusing on mobility across the business, you can explore where your long-term professional interests may lie, allowing you to to build a depth of knowledge and experience in your chosen area.
We’ll also help you achieve your goals by providing a programme leader and an individual mentor as part of our graduate assurance process.

Join us as an undergraduate on a summer vacation or industrial placement.
You’ll typically be with us for eight weeks in July and August (summer) for six months to a year from September (industrial) and will be paid a competitive monthly salary. In your summer vacationwork, you’ll be a contributing member of a project team, gaining access to unrivalled opportunities to learn and develop new skills within the varied and groundbreaking engineering work taking place at Roke.
If you’re selected to join us on a placement scheme, we’re sure you’ll find it engaging and rewarding for both yourself and your career.
What do we expect from you?
You’ll have achieved well above average performance in your A-level examinations and demonstrate the ability to achieve a 2:1 or equivalent in your degree course (Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or a business related degree – any year of study).
You should also have some practical experience of software and/or be able to demonstrate an analytical approach to problem solving, so that during your placement you can get into the thick of it under the supervision of an engineer.

I’m a Graduate Consultant in the Roke Consulting area and joined the Graduate Development Programme 10 months ago. Currently, I’m in London on a client site, working on strategy development and implementation across the law enforcement community.
WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO ROKE?Roke is a medium-sized company. This led me to believe that I wouldn’t be lost in the masses. My experience here has been an enjoyable and personal one. I have made close relationships with the people I work with and for, and I get the attention and support I need as a graduate entering full-time employment for the first time.
WHY DO YOU ENJOY YOUR JOB?Working in the National Security space means that things are current and always changing. As a result of this, I’m never bored, and have numerous opportunities to learn and develop. Day-to-day work is never the same, which feeds my interest and keeps me on my toes.
HAS YOUR ROLE BEEN SUPPORTED BY TRAINING?I’ve received ample training at Roke. On top of graduate training on my general skills, I’ve also received technical training specific to my role.
Roke has supported my development by providing me with training to achieve a Diploma in Business Analysis.
HAS JOINING ROKE INFLUENCED YOUR CAREER PATH?Massively. Before joining Roke I was still unsure about what area I wanted to work in long-term. However, since joining, I’ve come to find that working in the National Security space is something I want to continue doing.
WHY WOULD YOU RECOMMEND ROKE TO OTHER GRADS?Roke provides you with a tailored and personal experience towards your development. The support you receive is outstanding, from your line manager, project manager or colleagues, and the GDP provides you with an opportunity to learn fast and get involved.

I work on a project within the Digital Policing area in the National Security department.
WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO ROKE?Roke has a reputation for excellent research and innovation within our industry. I saw Roke as an opportunity to learn how to explore an idea from concept, through to execution and customer delivery. As well as this, the broad range of specialists working at Roke seemed like a great chance to build on knowledge I’d built up at university.
WHY DO YOU ENJOY YOUR JOB?Because if there’s something I don’t quite understand, there are numerous people who patiently support you, running through concepts or a technique.
HAS YOUR ROLE BEEN SUPPORTED BY TRAINING?Yes, by opening up opportunities to take professional certifications. I am given time to improve aspects of my job with dedicated training time throughout the year.
HAS JOINING ROKE INFLUENCED YOUR CAREER PATH?I’ve gained insight into the world of software development and how a project is run, from commercial to technical delivery. Having this kind of overview in Cyber Security as an industry is invaluable.

APPRENTICES
What is a degree apprenticeship?
A degree apprenticeship gives you the perfect opportunity to earn, learn and grow. You’ll have the opportunity to gain a level 6 qualification (equivalent to BA or BSc Honours degree) all whilst being employed and receiving relevant experience. The biggest benefit to all of this is that your degree is fully funded through the apprenticeship levy.
Our partnership with the University of Winchester means you will study one day a week on campus towards your relevant degree alongside your work at Roke.
What will your degree entail?
If you’re joining us you’ll study for a BSc Honours degree in Digital and Technology Solutions. This will cover modules such as software programming, cyber security, network security and project management and business analyst. The modules include all the core fundamental practical skills you’ll need to flourish. What’s more, towards the end of the degree you’ll get to tailor your modules towards a future role at Roke.
As well as a thorough grounding in digital and technology solutions, you’ll learn a wide range of skills in business process analysis, solutions development and data management.
Once you’ve finished the apprenticeship and have your degree, you’ll be invited to join our graduate programme.

At Roke you’ll join one of our key areas. Here you’ll work on groundbreaking projects for our wide range of clients, helping to make a real impact to the world we live in. Innovation When not on project work, you’ll have access to our Innovation Hub, where employees post scientific and technological problems that they may have. If something takes your interest, you can collobrate with others, unleash your creativity and evaluate solutions.
Training During your time here, we’ll give you training in technical and business skills either online or through our own engineers and support staff.
