Dear Parents, Welcome to the All About Me Workbook!

This workbook focuses on building children’s self-awareness in preparation for starting school. When children have a solid understanding of their thoughts, feelings, likes, and dislikes as well as a sense of their body within the world, they are better able to express themselves. The activities related to emotions and behavior help children recognize and manage their own feelings and develop their relationships with others. The activities also help build children’s pen-control skills and prepare them for paperwork.

Here are some tips to help ensure your child gets the most from this workbook and others in the series.

Look at the pages with your child, ensuring he or she knows what to do before starting. Plan short, regular sessions, only doing one or two pages at a time. Praise your child’s efforts and improvements. Encourage your child to assess his or her own efforts in a positive way. For example, say: “You traced those words slowly and carefully. Which one do you think you did best?” Make the learning sessions positive experiences. Give prompts where they might help. If a section is too hard for your child, leave those pages until he or she is ready for them. Most pages relate the learning to things in your child’s world. For example, the page on friends asks about the child’s own best friend. Discuss these parts of the pages in more detail together. There are stickers to use throughout the book. They help build your child’s hand-eye coordination and observation skills. Encourage your child to place the stickers on each page before starting the other activities.

Lastly, consider providing your child with other workbooks in this series. Together, they help build a solid understanding of early learning concepts to ensure your child is ready for kindergarten and school.
