of ~Ohn (2) Dane ot Ipswich- a volume of manuscript, 132 leaves,3 1/2

inches wide and 6 inohes in length, bound in parchment. Title page: also

manner of .preparation for death; 2 narratlve poems, one in rhyme and one

widow,Annis, sole executor. Annis took ror a 3rd husband, John Par.menter

of Sudbury, and went there tt live, Aug. 9,1660. He died Kay l,1671,age

83, and Annis returned to Roxbury where she turned inn keeper. She died

Francia (2) Dane, b. in Enaland, 1615, came about 1636 from London to BostoD,

being 6 months on the journey, probably comdng by way of Spain and West Indie~

He was educated lare~ .' af~er he was 21, probably in the hame ot some clergy­

man- probably in LJDll, as he married Elizabeth Ingalls of Lpm, daughter ot

Edmund Ingalls and wife,Ann, and sister to tienry Ingalls. She WaS sister -in-

19w to Andrew Allen who married her sister,Faith. They all came to Andover ~

and it is hard to say which led. John Woodbridge came up first, about 1616,

started the churoh, and lett,1647. Dane got the plaoe in 1648, very likely

through the influence of Thomas' and WIn. Chandler and George Abbott, husband

of Hannah Chandler- all of Roxbury and all half-brothers.

The salary of Francis Un was 1/2 in wheat and 1/2 Indian Corn until 1683-

then 5 Lbs. in silver. He kept a private school and got a farm grant in West

Andover. He was for 48 years a leader in Andover Church. His first wite,

Elizabeth Ingalls, died here, June 9,1676; he married 2nd., Mary Thomas,Sept.

21,1677; she d. Feb.18,1689 and he took for a 3rd.,Hannah Chandler, step-sis­

ter, widow of George Abbott, about 1690.

Francis died Feb.17,1697. He lett widow Hannah, 20.bs. and a chest and

,~ngoods she brought! excep1~fr tobacco-meal and candles which she had spent.

gone. The one buIlt by Franklin Heald stands near the site. P.h1lemon(6) lived

there last before Stratton took it up. Capt. ,r'ranklin Heald bought the land

from Dane and sold to Stratton.

good enough for him. She joined Ch, 1782; d. April/I'194 ot tuberw

culosis. Timothy Foster was b. in Oambridge,1754, son ot Thos. Fo~

ter and 2nd w. Sarah ~anks. The young couple lived in the house

later held by Isaac Goldsm1th,below Henry Hayward's. They were

not well off and his rich Boston relatives educated the children.
