Eating things sacrificed to idols?

The Commandment of Jesus (Heb.: YAHSHUA – YAH saves) our Messiah is clear-cut.

Revelation 2:14 But I (Yahshua) have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of

Balaam, who taught Balak to cast a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and

to commit fornication.1

Revelation 2:20 Notwithstanding I (Yahshua) have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel,

which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed

unto idols.

Yahshua Messiah repeats Himself. This demonstrates how important this dietary law is for our salvation!

Acts 15:19-20 Wherefore my (Apostolic Church) sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles

(Nations) are turned to God: But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication,

and from things strangled, and from blood.

Remember: the first commandment, which was broken by mankind, was a dietary law of YHVH (YAHWEH) (Gen 3,

1Tim 2:14).

What is an idol?

In the Bible idolatry2 is defined,

1. not only the giving to any

a. creature or

b. human creation

the honour or devotion which belonged to God (Heb.: Elohim) alone

ACTS 7:41

And they made a calf in those days, and offered sacrifice unto the idol,

and rejoiced in the works of their own hands.

So even, if the Israelites identified the statue with YHVH (read Ex 32:4, 8), it was still a violation of at least one of

HIS commandments (Ex 20:4-5).

2. but the giving to any human desire a precedence over YHVH’s will (read 1Co 10:14; Gal 5:20; Col 3:5; 1Pe 4:3;

Ezek 14:3, 4, 7)

Ezek 14:3

Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart,

and put the stumbling block of their iniquity before their face:

should I be inquired of at all by them?

According to Ps 106:36-38 demons (evil spirits) are idols (c.f. 1Cor 10:20, Lev 17:7, Deut 32:17).

Page 4: Eating things sacrificed to idols

4

Lev 17:7

And they shall no more offer their sacrifices unto devils (demons),

after whom they have gone a whoring.

This shall be a statute for ever unto them throughout their generations.

Matthew 6:24

No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other;

or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other.

You cannot serve God (YHVH) and Mammon

Here Mammon is personified as an evil and superhuman power that stands in competition to YHVH and by possessing

people can even keep them from being devoted to YHVH and make them hate Him3.

The Aram. etymology of the mot Mammon is not completely certain, probably is a maqtal form of the root 'mn with the

meaning of 'that in which one puts trust', with 'money, riches' as a derivative meaning4.

Are ritually slaughtered5 animals sacrificed to idols?

Five years ago, a sequence of anomalous occurrences kicked off.

Members from the Halal Advocates of America visited New Zealand on 4 May 20106.

Anne Berryman of the New Zealand Meat Board said early 2010 that their slaughterhouses chose to dedicate and

slaughter all meat as “stunned” halal7.

New Zealand banned shechita (kosher slaughter) in May 20108. Among other countries that impose stunning before

slaughter comprise Iceland, Norway, Sweden9, Denmark and Switzerland10.

4 September 2010 an earthquake hit Christchurch, New Zealand11.

A second (devastating) earthquake hit Christchurch on 22 February 201112. The renowned Christchurch

Cathedral is wrecked. Aftershocks and New Zealand wide flooding occur to this day.

Prior to these publications, only a few believers dealt with “abstaining from blood in their food (i.e. customarily

slaughtered animals, black pudding, blood sausages, Thai chicken cakes, animal lecithin in some chocolate-nut

spreads etc.) and eating things sacrificed unto idols”.

2017 CE seven years will have past since the abovementioned events in 2010.

In 2017 CE, 6000 years will have passed since the creation of Adam, and the last millennia of the » 7000 year

Agenda of GOD « starts off.

Seeing all these things happen, it is no wonder that more and more people stop and think about what they put on their

plates and where the products come from.

Very popular is the topic about ritually slaughtered meat that is sold unlabelled to unsuspecting consumers in the

supermarkets worldwide.

Animal keeping was once called “husband-ry” and conveyed the relationship between the two “parties”.

The modern designation ‘industrialized large-scale livestock farming’ on the other hand communicates a new

objective – megabucks.

1Tim 6:10-12

For the love of money is the root of all evil:

which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith,

and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

But thou, O man of God (Elohim), flee these things;

and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life,

whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

Everybody knows how animals are treated in these days.

The food industry claims that they only meet the needs of the consumer for cheap meat.

The consumer supports or opposes this with his wallet.

Page 7: Eating things sacrificed to idols

7

Prov 12:10

A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast:

But the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.

Meat sacrificed to Mammon?

Hosea 8:4

They have set up kings, but not by me: they have made princes, and I knew it not:

of their silver and their gold have they made them idols,

that they may be cut off.

Luke 16:11

If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon (wealth),

who will commit to your trust the true riches?

Mammon has a predominantly negative connotation with the dishonest, the sinful aspect of wealth. They imply that

believers may learn from the unjust steward to use wealth (in the sense of 'dispose of it') in the service of love for others,

i.e. in the service of God13.

Is the sinful snatching after riches both an act of worship (service, ministering, and affectionate loving) and of obedience

to falsehood, vanity and a lie?

1John 2:16-17

For all that is in the world,

the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life,

is not of the Father, but is of the world.

And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof:

but he that doeth the will of God (Elohim) abideth for ever.

Book of Revelation

The Revelation of Yahshua Messiah, which Elohim, the Father gave to Him, is not only the climax of the Holy Bible but

also a great eye-opener.

Among other things, it reviews Elohim’s classic commandments to enter into life and explains in simple terms how we

may obtain the salvation, which is in Messiah Yahshua with eternal glory.

Yahshua Messiah Himself reminds believers that only those who overcome and keep His works until the end will be

rewarded and inherit all things (c.f. 2Tim 2:11-12; Rev 21:7; Rev 22:12, 14; Rev 2:7; Rev 2:11, 17, 26-28; Rev 3:5, 12,

21).

ELOHIM’s DECREE

E.g. in Rev 2:14 and 20 Yahshua Messiah charges the “called outs” 14twice before YHVH not to have or allow (Jam 4:17;

1John 3:4) false teachers and prophets (Jer 23:22, 9-40; 2Pet 3:1-2) to teach and seduce His servants to eat things

sacrificed to idols, to the ruin of the hearers and transgressors (Num 25:2-5, 9; 31:7-8, 16-17; 1 Tim 1:3, 18-20).

“Behold you trust in lying words that cannot profit. Hear the Word of YHVH. Obey His voice” (Jer 7:1-11, 23).

The Messiah commands repentance (c.f. 2 Cor 7:8-12; Matt 3:8; Ezek 18:21-32; Isa 1:16-20). “Thoroughly amend your

ways and your doings. Turn away from the wickedness, which you have committed, and do what is lawful and right.

Cease to do evil. Learn to do good. Rebuke the oppressor.”

THE JERUSALEM DECREE (THE APOSTLES, ELDERS AND THE WHOLE JERUSALEM CONGREGATION to the

brethren who are of the Nations15 in Antioch, Syria and Cilicia (Acts 15:23); and to every city Paul and Barnabas

preached prior to the declaration of the decree (Acts 15:36))

C.f. Acts 11:8; 15:6, 19-20, 29; 21:17-25; 15:21; Matt 23:1-3; Acts Chapter 15

Page 9: Eating things sacrificed to idols

9

Acts 15:23-29 (by letter and by mouth)

(...)

25 It seemed good unto us, being assembled with one accord,

to send chosen men unto you with our beloved

Barnabas and Paul,

26 Men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our

Lord Jesus Christ.

27 We have sent therefore Judas and Silas (15:32), who shall also

tell you the same things by mouth.

28 For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay

upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;

29 That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from

blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication:

from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye

well.

Acts 16:1-5

4 And as they (Paul and Timothy) went through the cities, they delivered to them the (Jerusalem) decrees to keep, which

were determined by the apostles and elders at Jerusalem.”

Acts 21:25

As touching the Gentiles which believe, we have written

and concluded that they observe no such thing, save only

that they keep themselves from things offered to idols, and

from blood, and from strangled, and from fornication.

Page 10: Eating things sacrificed to idols

10

Therefore, in relation to this subject Paul’s letters must be read with ELOHIM’S DECREE and the JERUSALEM

DECREE in mind.

Peter emphasizes in 2 Pet 3:16 that some things in Paul’s letters are hard to understand, which untaught and unstable

people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the (OT and NT) Scriptures (c.f. Ex 34:15, 28; Ex 32:8;

Lev 17:7; Deut 32:17; Matt 6:24).

The Holy Books are not open for individual versions according to our own desires. The Bible explains itself.

1Pet 1: 14-16

As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves

according to the former lusts in your ignorance:

But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in

all manner of conduct;

Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

E.g. Lev Chapter 11 reveals how to obtain holiness (c.f. especially Lev 11:44-46; 20: 25-26, 7; 19:2; Ezek 22:26, 44:23;

Isa 65:4). Sincere believers are to be set apart and recognized by their love, i.e. obedience to Elohim’s instructions.

Following God’s prescribed actions (Deut 4:5-10) is not to be a simple ritual; rather, obedience to His law expresses not

only a strong internal faith in Him but also a healthy fear of Him.

The first commandment which was broken by mankind was a dietary law of YHVH.

The serpent seduced Eve to commit spiritual fornication (idolatry) and eat forbidden things.

Genesis 2: 15-17 And the LORD God (YHVH ELOHIM) took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it

and to keep it. And the LORD God (YHVH ELOHIM) commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou

mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest

thereof thou shalt surely die.

Page 11: Eating things sacrificed to idols

11

To assume that prayers over an unclean animal (which was never food for mankind (Gen 7:2; 8:20)) or meat sacrificed

to demons would make it clean or holy or fit for consumption is like to assume that Adam and Eve could have received

the forbidden fruit with thanksgiving and sanctified the forbidden fruit by prayer and by so doing could have avoided

their judgment (c.f. Isa 65:4, 66:17).

Illustration 1:

It is like a wife of a vegan family who asks her husband to buy sausages from the supermarket. Of course, he would

purchase vegan soy sausages and not sausages made out of meat (if he likes to stay out of trouble). She had no need to

explain her husband not to buy meat sausages, because this was clear.

However, if someone without further information regarding this family would have heard her request, he could have

assumed that she asked for common meat or unclean pork sausages (compare 1Tim 4:3-5).

Illustration 2:

Every animal of God is good (Gen 1:21, 25) and was created for a special purpose. Nothing of itself is unclean. What

makes a creature or thing unclean is when God commands that it is unclean or unholy. An unclean animal unfit as food

for men cannot be sanctified by prayer, because it is not sanctified (set apart) by the word of God for human

consumption. (Lev 11; esp. Lev 11:46-47; Deut 14:3-21; Acts 10:14).

Ezek 22:26

Her priests have violated my law, and have profaned mine holy things: they have put no difference between the holy and

profane, neither have they shewed difference between the unclean and the clean, and have hid their eyes from my

sabbaths, and I am profaned among them.

C.f. Ezek 44:23, Lev 20:25-26, Lev 10:10

Page 12: Eating things sacrificed to idols

12

Lev 20:25-26

Ye shall therefore put difference between clean beasts and unclean, and between unclean fowls and clean: and ye shall

not make your souls abominable by beast, or by fowl, or by any manner of living thing that creepeth on the ground,

which I (YHVH) have separated from you as unclean.

And ye shall be holy unto me: for I the LORD am holy, and have severed you from other people, that ye should be mine.

Our Father is not only concerned with what we eat, but also how much we eat. Gluttony is also a sin!

Yah’s salvation is open to both Israel and the Nations - OT and NT examples

1. Household of Cornelius. A devout, YHVH fearing, but in the flesh uncircumcised Roman Centurion. Read Acts

10:9-48, 11:1-18.

Acts 10:14

Peter was in great perplexity inwardly over what the vision he had seen might have been (Acts 10:17)

But Peter said, not so, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean.

Acts 10:15

And the voice spake unto him again the second time,

what God (YHVH) hath cleansed, that call not thou common (c.f. Acts 11:9, Gal 3:26-29).

Acts 10:28 a)

And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an

*unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation;

(*regarding Rabbinical man made doctrine and tradition (c.f. Acts 11:2-3, Gal 2:12 ;John 4:9, 18:28))

Holy Spirit’s interpretation of that vision

but God (YHVH) hath shewed me

that I should not call any man common or unclean.

Acts 10:34-35

Then Peter opened his mouth, and said,

Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: (c.f. Deut 10:17, 2Chr 19:7)

But in every nation he that feareth Him, and worketh righteousness (c.f.Rom 2:13), is accepted with Him.

Acts 11:17

Forasmuch then as God gave them (Nations) the like gift as he did unto us,

who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ;

what was I, that I could withstand God?

Acts 11:18

When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying,

Then hath God also to the Gentiles (Nations)

granted repentance unto life (c.f. Rom 2:10-11).

2. Caleb, the son of a Kenizzite and his household. He followed YHVH wholeheartedly.

Caleb’s father was a Kenezite (Gen 15:19), a type of Canaanite. They were not from the tribe of Israel; therefore, they

were strangers and sojourners among the children of Israel. They must have been a part of the mixed multitude that went

up with the children of Israel, out of Egypt. Caleb and his father were circumcised in Egypt to take part in the first

Passover (Joshua 4:2-7) before the Exodus in 1445 BCE. Caleb means “a dog”, “a crow” or “a basket”.

Page 14: Eating things sacrificed to idols

14

He was made a ruler over the tribe of Judah and was sent to spy out Canaan. He was born Kenizite, but at Passover he

became as a native-born, and he was given an inheritance among the Israelites.

Deut 10:15-18

Only the LORD had a delight in thy fathers to love them, and he chose their seed after them, even you above all

people, as it is this day.

Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiffnecked.

17 For the LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth

not persons, nor taketh reward:

18 He doth execute the judgment of the fatherless and widow, and loveth the stranger, in giving him food and raiment.

Ex 12:37-18

And the children of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand on foot that were men,

beside children.

And a mixed multitude went up also with them (children of Israel); and flocks, and herds, even very much cattle.

Ex 12:47-49

All the congregation (Gk. Ekklesias = church) of Israel shall keep it (the Passover).

And when a stranger shall sojourn with thee, and will keep the passover to the LORD, let all his males be circumcised,

and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as one that is born in the land (Heb. Ezrach) (Rom 11:16-24,

Ezek 47:21-23): for no uncircumcised person shall eat thereof.

One law (Nb 15:15-16, 29; Lev 24:22) shall be to him that is homeborn, and unto the stranger that sojourneth among

you.

Ezek 47:21-23

So shall ye divide this land unto you according to the tribes of Israel.

Page 15: Eating things sacrificed to idols

15

And it shall come to pass, that ye shall divide it by lot for an inheritance unto you, and to the strangers that sojourn

among you, which shall beget children among you: and they shall be unto you as born in the country among the

children of Israel; they shall have inheritance with you among the tribes of Israel.

And it shall come to pass, that in what tribe the stranger sojourneth, there shall ye give him his inheritance, saith the Lord

GOD.

Joshua 14:6-9

Then the children of Judah came unto Joshua in Gilgal: and Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite said unto him,

Thou knowest the thing that the LORD said unto Moses the man of God concerning me and thee in Kadesh-barnea.

Forty years old was I when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh-barnea to espy out the land; and I

brought him word again as it was in mine heart.

Nevertheless my brethren that went up with me made the heart of the people melt: but I wholly followed the LORD my

God.

And Moses sware on that day, saying, Surely the land whereon thy feet have trodden shall be thine inheritance (c.f.

Nb 34:19, 29), and thy children’s (1Chr 4:15) for ever, because thou hast wholly followed the LORD my God.

Joshua 14:13-15

And Joshua blessed him, and gave unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh Hebron for an inheritance.

Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite unto this day, because that he

wholly followed the LORD God of Israel.

And the name of Hebron before was Kirjath-arba; which Arba was a great man among the Anakims. And the land had

rest from war.

Nb 13:2-8

AND the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

Send thou men, that they may search the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel: of every tribe of their

fathers shall ye send a man, every one a ruler among them.

Page 16: Eating things sacrificed to idols

16

And Moses by the commandment of the LORD sent them from the wilderness of Paran: all those men were heads of the

children of Israel.

And these were their names: of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Zaccur.

Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh.

Of the tribe of Ephraim, Oshea (Joshua see Verse 16) the son of Nun.

Nb 32:11-13

Surely none of the men that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I

sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob; because they have not wholly followed me:

Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua the son of Nun: for they have wholly followed the LORD.

And the LORD’s anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the

generation, that had done evil in the sight of the LORD, was consumed.

Rev 21:10-12

And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem,

descending out of heaven from God,

Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal;

And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which

are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel:

Heed, there is no Gentile gate or Christian Church gate in the New Jerusalem, which is the bride, the lamb’s wife (Rev

21:9).

Notes to the Re-Newed Covenant: Moab Covenant of YHVH with the Israelites, the strangers, the little ones and the

future generations (Deut 29:15, 10-14; 30:6), besides the Sinai covenant. Read Deut Chapter 29 and 30, Jer 31:27-37,

Ezek 36:25-28, Heb 8:6-13 (old=Levitical order, renewed=Melchizedek order as in Gen 14:18-20).

Page 17: Eating things sacrificed to idols

17

Remember, OT people like Noah were also under grace (Gen 6:8) and under law (Gen 9:4, Rom 8:6-8, 1Cor 9:21, Rom

8:2, Gal 6:2; James 2:12, 13). Noah lived by grace.

EL SHADDAI is not the author of confusion, but of peace and simplicity.

2John 1:6

And this is love, that we walk after his commandments.

This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the

beginning, ye should walk in it.

1 Tim 1:5

Now the end of the commandment is love out of a pure

heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:

1John 5:2-4

By this we know that we love the children of God (ELOHIM), when

we love God (YHVH), and keep his commandments.

For this is the love of God (YHVH), that we keep his

commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

For whatsoever is born of God (YHVH) overcometh the world: and

this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

1John 2:17

And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof:

but he that doeth the will of God (YHVH) abideth for ever.

Page 18: Eating things sacrificed to idols

18

When every man does that which is right in his own eyes and does not obey and do the word of GOD and our King (Matt

7:21, 12:50; Mark 3:35), can he truly assume to become the bride or a guest at the wedding supper or a surviving

inhabitant of the nations (2Pet 3:11; Matt 5:48; 1John 3:7-8)?

Look what Daniel did, the END TIME PROPHET!

He lived in Babylon as we do. Consequently, he is our example, to the intent that we should imitate him (1Tim 4:12).

He did not persuade the nations of Babylon to live YHVH’s way, but he was able to deliver both his own soul (Ezek

14:14) and those who heard him (1Tim 4:16).

When someone is unwilling to follow ELOHIM’s clear commandments, let us pray for him that YHVH may grant him

repentance, so that he may know the truth (c.f. 2Tim 2:19-21, 25-26; 1Tim 4:1-2; Rev 22:11).

2Tim 4:3-4

For the time will come when they will not endure sound

doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to

themselves teachers, having itching ears;

And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and

shall be turned unto fables.

May EL SHADDAI YAHWEH, Elohim of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust, so that you may abound with

hope by the power of the Holy Spirit (Heb.: Ruach ha Kodesh). (Rom 15:13)
