PIPING RESISTANCEHow to read the chart

1. Follow the line of the required capacity towards the right,till it meets the piping diameter line (on which diameteris marked in inches).

2. Move straight down from the meeting point of the lines,till you reach the reference line (indicated by an arrow).

3. Follow the diagonal line that runs through the point onthe reference line (either upwards or downwardsdepending on the line) until you come to a (horizontal)viscosity (Redwood-seconds, RWS) line. Then drop aline straight downward from the intersection to the frictionloss on the scale at the bottom of the chart, and read offthe value.

Example:

1. When capacity is 100m3/h, piping diameter is 6E andRWS is 2000, friction loss will be 0.1 kgf/cm2 per 10mof piping

Example:

When capacity is 20 l/min, piping size is 1/2B and kerosene temperature

is 0°C, friction losss will be 0.3 kgf/cm2 per 10 m of piping.

Note:

1. The above curves are for kerosene at normal temperature and areonly intended to be approximate.

2. Take these strainer resistance values into account when consideringpump suction performance.

3. For 12 & 15GPA pumps, use strainers of diameter 15mm. For 20 &25GPA pumps, use strainer of diameter 25mm.
