The Need for Training / Drill for ATC Controllers
High Risk Area
Preparing only a circular / manual is not enough.
Training is needed such as simulated eruption drills.
Air Traffic Controller HAVE responsibilities to direct multiple aircraft
BUT RARELY HAVE experienced on handling VA radar vectoring AND NEVER HAVE experienced simulated drills on transitioning from a normal traffic status to a pre-determined avoidance status.
The Need for Training / Drill for ATC Controllers
Preparing only a circular / manual for ATC is not enough to ensure the highest level of safety and preparedness.
High Risk Area – more training is needed Low Risk Area – less training is needed
The need to educate & conduct simulated eruption drills for ATC controllers should be a high priority item.
Details on the Miyakejima Incidents in 2000 will be presented on Wednesday
at Session 5-05
