GPT, GUID Partition Table. (GUID, Globally unique identifier)

Den udbredte MBR (Master Boot Record) partitionsopsætning stammer fra begyndelsen af 1980'erne. Den har nogle begrænsninger, som påvirker anvendelsen af moderne hardware. Intel udviklede derfor en ny partition table format i slutningen af 1990'erne. GPT udgør fra 2010 en delmængde af UEFI specifikationen.
