Croeso i’r Eisteddfod!Yn 2016, Sir Fynwy a’r Cyffiniau fydd yn croesawu’r Eisteddfod Genedlaethol am y tro cyntaf ers dros 100 mlynedd, pan fydd yr ŵwyl eiconig fyd-enwog yn cael ei chynnal ar gyrion Y Fenni o 29 Gorffennaf – 6 Awst.

Beth am fod yn rhan o’r paratoadau a’r dathliadau ymlaen llaw ac yn ystod yr wythnos ei hun? Mae’r wybodaeth i gyd yn y llyfryn hwn.

Welcome to the Eisteddfod! In 2016, Monmouthshire and the surrounding area will welcome the National Eisteddfod for the first time for over 100 years, when the world-famous iconic festival is held on the outskirts of Abergavenny from 29 July – 6 August.

Beth yw’r Eisteddfod?Meddyliwch am Glastonbury, ‘Fringe’ Caeredin a Gwyl y Gelli Gandryll – cymysgwch y gwyliau hyn gyda’i gilydd gan ychwanegu dipyn go lew o ‘hwyl’ a ‘chroeso’ – a dyna ni ran o’r ffordd at ddychmygu awyrgylch yr Eisteddfod Genedlaethol. O gannoedd o gystadlaethau, i oriel gelf genedlaethol Cymru ar y safle drwy gydol yr wyl, ac o anrhydeddu beirdd a llenorion i arbrofion gwyddonol swnllyd a ffrwydrol ac ymdrechion record y byd, dim ond un ffordd sydd yna i gael gwybod beth all yr Eisteddfod ei gynnig, dewch draw am dro!

Pam y dylwn i fynd i’r Eisteddfod?Mae’n un o wyliau mwyaf y byd gydag oddeutu 150,000 o ymwelwyr yn dod at ei gilydd i fwynhau’r gorau sydd gan Gymru i’w gynnig yn ystod wythnos gyntaf Awst. Fel gwyl deithiol, mae’r Eisteddfod yn ymweld â gwahanol rannau o Gymru bob blwyddyn, am yn ail rhwng y gogledd a’r de.

Mae croeso cynnes i bawb ar y Maes yn siaradwyr Cymraeg ai peidio. Dathliad o’n diwylliant a’n hiaith yw hi yn ei hanfod, ond gall pawb fwynhau cerddoriaeth, diwylliant, ‘hwyl’ Cymreig a siopa mewn unrhyw iaith!

What is the Eisteddfod?Think of Glastonbury, the Edinburgh Fringe and Hay on Wye – mix these festivals together and add a large slice of ‘hwyl’ (fun) and ‘croeso’ (welcome) – and you’re close to imagining the atmosphere at the National Eisteddfod. From hundreds of competitions, to Wales’ national art gallery on-site, and from honouring poets and writers to noisy and explosive scientific experiments and world record attempts, join us for a wonderful experience right on your doorstep!

Why should I go to the Eisteddfod?It’s one of the world’s largest festivals with around 150,000 visitors coming together to enjoy the best Wales has to offer during the first week of August. As a travelling festival, the Eisteddfod visits different parts of Wales every year, alternating between north and south.

There’s a warm welcome for everyone on the Maes, whether you speak Welsh or not. It’s a celebration of the language, but music, culture, Welsh ‘hwyl’ and retail therapy can be enjoyed universally and in any language!

The Eisteddfod is our chance here in Wales to celebrate our Welshness – whether we speak Welsh or not. So why not join us in our work over the next year to show the rest of Wales that Monmouthshire can successfully host a national festival.

Organising local eventsFundraising activities organised in the Eisteddfod’s host area are a very important part of the festival’s community legacy. Get involved with your local fundraising committee to think about a variety of appealing activities. Here are a few ideas but the list is endless!

Chi a’r EisteddfodI ran fwyaf o bobl leol, dyma’r tro cyntaf i chi ymwneud gyda’r Eisteddfod, felly gadewch i ni weithio gyda’n gilydd i wneud y flwyddyn nesaf mor gofiadwy â phosibl.

Mae’r wyl ei hun yn uchafbwynt prosiect cymunedol 18 mis, sydd yn darparu amrywiaeth o gyfleoedd ar gyfer yr ardal gyfan i gymryd rhan. Mae’r Pwyllgor Gwaith lleol wedi gosod targed o £300,000 i’w godi fel cyfraniad yr ardal at y gost gyffredinol o gynnal yr wyl – beth allwch chi ei wneud i gefnogi ac i wneud y gorau o ymweliad yr Eisteddfod â’ch ardal chi?

Rydym am i’r gymuned gyfan gymryd rhan, ac os ydych chi’n teimlo’n angerddol dros eich cymuned leol a Sir Fynwy, beth am ymuno â ni i’w gwneud yn Eisteddfod lwyddiannus i bawb?

You and the EisteddfodFor most people locally, this will be the first time you’ve been involved with the Eisteddfod, so let’s work together to make the next year as memorable as possible.

The festival itself is the pinnacle of an 18 month community project, providing an array of opportunities for the host area to get involved. The local Executive Committee has set itself a target of £300,000 as the area’s contribution to the overall cost of hosting the festival – what can you do to support and make the most of the Eisteddfod’s visit to your area?

We want the whole community to get involved, and if you’re passionate about your local community and Monmouthshire, why not join us to make it a successful Eisteddfod for everyone?

Donate a prizeDid you know that you can donate a prize for as little as £15 in the National Eisteddfod?

Donating a prize for the festival’s competitions on behalf of an individual, family, club, society or in memory of a loved one is an effective way of supporting the Eisteddfod as well as your appeal committee. In giving a prize, the total contribution will go towards your area’s local target, and by completing a Gift Aid form we can claim an extra 25p for every £1 donated by the UK Government.
