School Improvement Goal Questions Notes Goal 1 – by May 2013, 80% of LCES students, K – 4, will have achieved reading benchmark expectations as identified by MAP RIT scores and alpha levels Targeted Group – K-4 Students (General Population) Tool/s used to measure student progress on the student outcome goal

MAP RIT Scores

ALPHA Benchmarks Objective 1 Assessment and Data Use – We will implement the reading units of study which were developed during the 2011-2012 school year. Tasks/Action Steps

A. Bi-weekly team discussions and reflections on past and planning for future (teams will maintain notes)

B. Special education, Title 1, and ELL teachers will meet with grade level teams during planning times to promote collaboration.

Objective 2 We will look at the alignment of MAP RIT scores and alpha levels to promote consistency in measures and results. Tasks/Action Steps

A. Develop consistent administration of alpha benchmark assessments.

B. Develop a grid with the correct correlations between MAP RIT scores and alpha benchmark data.

Objective 3 We will inform and educate parents on student reading level expectations. Tasks/Action Steps

A. Develop a document showing reading level expectations and the student’ current reading level

How will this be accomplished? Spec. Ed. and Title I students need exceptional classroom instruction in addition to the extra services.

MAP scores → % age of students in adv./prof. go down from Jan. to May. Is this a trend in other testing areas?

After initial benchmark testing in fall, should grade 2 data be compared to ending grade 1 data from last year to 1) determine amount of summer loss and 2) are both grade levels of teachers assessing similarly?

Explain a dip in RtI scores (2nd grade) from mid-year to May.

How are the 4 year old pre-school program fitting in with the kindergarten program? *Are students identified in the 4 year old program?

Explore the May testing drop? I know this is concerning for and no one has an answer. Seems to be across the board.

Compare the students who attended the 4 year old program to the students who did not. Grades 1, 2, 3, 4.

Report cards need to change.

PALS – we are ahead of the game – will be implemented this fall.

RtI teams at each school should also be working with our data teams.

Elementary school data team has met.

We should continue to share as much data with parents as possible.

Great data!

Objective 4 – RtI team may replace data team.

Goal 2 – Closing the gap process needs to continue to be a focus.

(this will be shared with parents following each benchmark period).

B. Quarterly, parent newsletters sharing data and how LCES utilizes data.

Objective 4 We will develop a data team to review reading data and to program recommendations. Tasks/Action Steps

A. Identify team members that will be part of the data team.

B. Have the team develop a mission statement and set their focus and charge.

C. Have the team make recommendations for the development of a data wall at LCES.

* Objective 3 – missed this * Objective 3 – not done yet * Objective 4 – May be the focus of the RtI program

Goal 1 – Units of Study – who is going to clean up holes? It needs to be articulated in BYOC

Who will move Jim’s data on the benchmark data excel sheets? Lots of time

Who & when will we address report cards? This needs to be done sooner than later.

Goal 2 – By May, 2014, 75% of K-4 students who did not achieve expected reading benchmarks will be one half year or less below grade level as measured by the MAP RIT Scores and alpha benchmark levels. Targeted Group – Remainder of population that did not reach general population benchmarks. Tool/s used to measure student progress on the student outcome goal

MAP RIT Scores

ALPHA Benchmarks Objective 1 Assessment and Data Use – We will attempt to claoe the achievement gap between low achieving students and the general student population. Tasks/Action Steps

A. Provide professional development for RtI B. Development of a RtI Task Force C. Staff will know how to effectively identify reading

deficiencies. D. Create a “teacher toolbox” of strategies for

differentiation for reading in the classroom (i.e. instructional strategies that work for students who are struggling readers).

E. Implement research-based interventions for low readers.

Objective 2 We will develop a data team to review reading data and to make program recommendations. Tasks/Action Steps

A. Identify team member that will be part of the data team.

B. Have the team develop a mission statement and set their focus and charge.

Reading *Maintain reading goals 80% = 2014

Achievement gap for special populations – needs to be addressed

Summer regression for below benchmark readers (library program)

RtI Format that is directive

Parent education – What form and how – how to we engage our parents?

Technology shortage for interventions

o Grant options

Reading Coach’s – directive approach

o University support

o School districts

ELA Curriculum needs to be articulated

Review assessment processes and when we assess

Writing *Goal → identify assessment system and gather data – set benchmarks

Write Track - This is our only data point for writing:

Is this a universal/research based assessment tool?

Is there a better assessment tool?

Does the data help to drive and differentiate instruction?

- Instruction is not consistent from class – class or grade/curriculum clarification

+ Are there universal probes that can be used in addition to or in place of Write Track?

(RtI committee charge)
