The Elite Business Event National Conference and Exhibition is brought to you by CE Media Events Ltd Registration No: 08619456 101 Finsbury Pavement, Moorgate, London, EC2A 1RSTel: 0203 638 5138cemedia.co.uk

We all need inspirational role models

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you all very much for coming to the Elite Business

Event, National Conference & Exhibition 2015. We have got an action-packed schedule over the next two days and the roll call of headline speakers reads like a who’s who of entrepreneurial royalty. Michelle Mone, Brent Hoberman, Kanya King, Mark Foster, Levi Roots and Shaa Wasmund will all be taking to the stage to share their start-up stories, as well as offering sage advice you’ll be able to carry back to boost your own businesses.

The grim reality is that many start-ups fail. Estimates vary but it is thought that one third of new companies hit the runners in their first two years. If you are looking for advice and guidance to help ensure you don’t end up in the SME graveyard, you’ve certainly come to the right place.

Something that became very clear from our inaugural event last year was the value business owners place on hearing first-hand insights from successful entrepreneurs. The same people who devour our cover features

each month were captivated by the inspirational stories of the likes of Jacqueline Gold, Michelle Mone and Karren Brady. After each headline speaker finished their session, attendees patiently queued for their chance to say hello and shake their hand.

As well as heeding the lessons of past failures, we also need examples of those people who have smashed the ball out of the park. For example, Brent Hoberman co-founded lastminute.com, which floated at the peak of the dot com bubble, managed to survive the subsequent crash and was eventually sold for a reported £577m. These are the kinds of stories that, when you’re still sat in the office at 4 o’clock in the morning, will remind you that anything is possible.

KANYA

King

Kanya King is the brains behind the MOBO Awards, the awards ceremony that celebrates music of black origin.

The awards are an annual event and widely considered to be one of the key UK music industry highlights of the year.

The youngest of nine children, King listened to black music throughout her childhood, something she found to be highly inspirational. She fared well in school, enjoying English and PE where she excelled in long-distance running. Ever ambitious, she attended Goldsmiths College in London to study English literature whilst juggling work and raising her young son.

King first developed the idea for the MOBO Awards whilst working as a researcher for Carlton, the TV production company. She was promptly given a TV slot by Carlton to make the MOBO Awards a reality, which was both blessing and curse, as this left her just six weeks to gather sponsors, a production crew and famous names to lead the show. Her dedication to the idea was put to the test; she ended up re-mortgaging her home to launch the first MOBO Award show, a huge success attended by Tony and Cherie Blair, Lionel Ritchie and Gabrielle.

The MOBO Awards have since become one of most prestigious awards ceremonies in the UK music industry; they have been hosted in many London landmarks such as the O2, Wembley and Alexandra Palace. King’s hard work was recognised when she was acknowledged by the Queen and invited to stand at Buckingham Palace beside JK Rowling and Cherie Blair to celebrate outstanding achievements by British women. In 2009, she was awarded an honorary doctorate in music from Leeds Metropolitan University and has since been made a patron of the Horniman Museum, as well as becoming part of the Inspire and Mentor campaign for Marie Claire.

March 18, 11:15 - 12:00, Conference Hall

We’ve got some truly Olympic-level talent for the Elite Business Event, National Conference and Exhibition.

Mark Foster is one of Britain’s most successful swimmers; he holds 47 sporting titles and achievements to his name and has broken eight world records. He was bestowed the honour of flag-bearer to lead out Team GB in the 2008 Beijing Olympics opening ceremony. Since retiring from swimming, he has become a renowned TV sports personality. His award-winning partnership with Clare Balding has only further endeared him to the nation, with highlights including his live coverage of the 2012 Olympics from the London Aquatics Centre.

Foster is open to a challenge and has competed in many TV shows including Countdown, Question of Sport, Come Dine With Me and Celebrity Masterchef. In 2008, he put on his dancing shoes for Strictly Come Dancing and joined the 2012 Strictly Live tour. His embraced his inner rhythm again to dance as a member of ‘The Olympians’ on the BBC1 show Let’s Dance For Sport Relief. But not only can this swimming champion cook and dance; his dedication to his fitness and physique makes him a highly sought after model, becoming the global face for Marlboro Classics and Just For Men.

Nowadays, Foster occupies himself with various fitness projects; in 2013 he set up the Mark Foster Swimming Academy to inspire 11 to 17-years-olds to take up swimming. In 2014, Foster teamed up with Strictly professionals to form Fitsteps, a dance and fitness programme that fuses ballroom dancing with uptempo Latin steps as a fun and effective way to keep fit. He also works closely as a brand ambassador with British Gas, which partners with British Swimming in an initiative to inspire 500,000 people in the UK to swim more often by 2015, ultimately getting the nation fitter and healthier.

LEVI

ROOTSL

evi Roots is a talented musician, chef and the entrepreneur behind Reggae Reggae Sauce. Before he ventured into

entrepreneurship, he worked in the music industry, performing with some of the biggest artists at the time including James Brown and Michael Rose. In 1998, he was nominated for a MOBO Award for his ‘Free Your Mind’ album. He had the honour of singing Happy Birthday to the late Nelson Mandela on his visit to Brixton and in his past spent every Sunday at Battersea Park playing football with Bob Marley.

In 1991, Roots set up the Rastaraunt, a stall at the Notting Hill Carnival, where he combined his passion for cooking with his passion for music by performing for

his customers. Roots’ grandmother taught him to cook from the age of nine using Caribbean herbs and spices; with the use of this knowledge – and some help from his seven children – Roots began making his Reggae Reggae Sauce in his kitchen and selling it from the stall.

His life changed when he took the idea on Dragons’ Den after being headhunted by the show. With the help of his lyrical stylings, he wowed the dragons with his signature sauce and accepted a £25,000 investment each from Peter Jones and Richard Farleigh, for a combined 40% share in his company.

Roots’ career took off from there: he is now one of the UK’s most recognisable entrepreneurs and the most successful Dragons’ Den candidate. A common sight in UK supermarkets, Reggae Reggae Sauce has come to overtake sales of Heinz ketchup; he has also expanded the line to a variety of other products including beverages, hot baked goods and a line of cookbooks. Roots also works as an ambassador for the Prince’s Trust and dedicates time to visiting hundreds of schools, universities and prisons each year. His infectious ethos of Caribbean sunshine continues to put music into food and all other aspects of life.

iven she was born and raised in Sillicon Valley, it’s fair to say that tech runs in Shaa Wasmund’s blood. The

founder and CEO of Smarta, the business support and advice network, first moved to the UK at the tender age of ten. She first got her break when studying at the London School of Economics after she won a competition to interview legendary boxer Chris Eubank. She impressed the World Champion so much that he asked her to come on board as his PR. Whilst still at university, Wasmund promoted Eubank’s second world title fight with Nigel Benn – the biggest fight to ever take place in the UK.

To satisfy her desire for entrepreneurship she launched her first business, a PR firm, in 1994. One of its first clients was James Dyson. She helped to establish the – then little-known – start-up as one of the UK’s most recogniseable household brands, netting herself Cosmopolitan Business Woman of the Year in the process. In 1999, she capitalised on her passion for the internet when she met with Sir Bob

Geldolf to become a founding director of his travel company, deckchair.com. She went on to found, www.mykindaplace.com in 2000, the teenage girls’ magazine and social network that was later bought by BSkyB.

Since 2009, as the CEO of Smarta, Wasmund helps to advise companies on how to implement digital strategies. She now helps over 500,000 SMEs a month offering support and advice on a multitude of platforms. Wasmund has worked with thousands of clients including Virgin, Disney and O2, leading her to be voted as one of the best-connected people in the UK by the IoD. Her book, ‘Stop Talking, Start Doing’, held the crown as WHSmiths’ best-selling business book 14 months in a row.

MICHELLE

Michelle Mone is the co-owner of Ultimo, the UK’s leading designer lingerie brand. Listed as one of the

top three female entrepreneurs in the UK and recognised by the Queen with an OBE honour for her contribution to the lingerie industry, she has built a hugely successful career on an incredibly simple concept: giving today’s women what they want.

Ultimo was born in 1996. Whilst attending a dinner dance, Mone was wearing a very uncomfortable cleavage-enhancing bra and had a lightbulb moment; she decided to invent a one that was more comfortable than any other on the market.

The company has since gone from strength-to-strength, developing beyond the original umbrella of Ultimo to encompass 13 patented ‘miracle’ inventions and brands including Ultimo Bridal, Ultimo Swimwear, Ultimo Shapewear and joint venture lines including Adore Moi for Debenhams. Other launches include UTan and USculpt, both of which have been well received by retailers and beauty buyers alike.

Because of this, Mone’s success has soared. Not only was Ultimo the first UK lingerie brand to debut on the catwalk at New York Fashion Week in 2009 but she has opened ‘shop in shops’ within Debenhams in key cities throughout the UK and landed a mammoth deal with F&F, Tesco’s clothing range. Over the years, Ultimo has established contracts with a string of high-profile models and celebrities including Penny Lancaster, Rachel Hunter, Kelly Brook and its current celebrity model Luisana Lopilato, the wife of global music star Michael Bublé.

Hardly surprising then that Mone has established herself as one of Scotland’s biggest exports; in 2000, she won the World Young Business Achiever Award at the Epcot Centre, Florida and Business Woman of the Year at the Corporate Elite Awards in London. She’s also a popular media personality, having appeared on Comic Relief Does the Apprentice and Celebrity MasterChef, and is rumoured to be joining Dragons’ Den.

BRENT

HOBERMANA veritable titan of tech, Brent

Hoberman is the bright spark behind one of e-commerce’s most enduring

brands. In creating lastminute.com with co-founder Martha Lane-Fox from the living room of his London flat, he hoped to ‘delight customers with great value, inspiration and solutions when they are going away, going out or staying in’.

The maxim stood the duo in good stead; when the start-up floated in 2000, it was 40 times oversubscribed, leading to its share price rocketing at a rate hitherto unseen by a UK company. After lastminute.com was acquired by Travelocity Europe for $1.1bn in 2005, Hoberman founded internet start-up, mydeco, an online furniture site that set out to revolutionise the way we shop and design for our homes.

Hoberman’s not scared to put his money where his mouth is and has an extensive background in investment. Not only is he co-founder of PROfounders Capital, an early-stage internet venture capital firm backed by several top entrepreneurs but as an angel investor he has backed several internet companies including Viagogo, erepublik, Wayn.com and academia.edu.

But his contributions to the entrepreneurial community aren’t limited to the financial. He acts as a non-executive director of Guardian Media Group and governor of the University of the Arts College, London. He is also chair of Founders Forum – described by the Guardian as ‘Davos for Geeks’.

Hardly surprising then that Hoberman has received plenty of recognition for his work in the start-up space. In 2009, he was selected as one of the World Economic Forum’s Young Global Leaders for the UK, whilst just a few short months ago Hoberman was recognised in the New Year’s Honours list with a CBE for services to entrepreneurship.

BUSINESS GROWTH

Online Business AND Technology

It is not without reason that SMEs are referred to as the engine room of the economy. Mighty business empires from little start-ups grow and, no matter what sector you work in, growth is most certainly the name of the game. Looking at how franchising can raise your fortunes, how international expansion can broaden your horizons and how to recruit smart to grow stronger teams, this panel will lay out the growth techniques you’ll require and provide you with a toolkit with which to boost your business operations.

Led by our growth guides Kanya King, Mark Foster, Levi Roots and special guest Will King, founder of King of Shaves, this session will cover the ins-and-outs of expanding your company’s reach and capitalising on your market. The panel will also answer your questions on how to marshall your strengths to achieve growth and how to identify and utilise new opportunities to extend your reach.

Given the Elite Business Event National Conference is based in the heart of Tech City, one of the most vibrant digital ecosystems in the world, we could hardly ignore the awesome power of the innovations being created right on its doorstep. Technology is not only changing our world but revolutionising the way we do business, so those looking to make the most of their market need to fully utilise all of the benefits it brings.

This session will cover how to make the most of developments in online marketing, software and automation, customer service and productisation to boost your business’s profile. Hosted by our crack team of digital experts Brent Hoberman, Michelle Mone, Shaa Wasmund and special guest Jonathan MacDonald, the international speaker and provider of thought leadership, this panel will discuss how tech and entrepreneurialism go hand-in-hand and answer your questions on the best way to utilise new innovations to up your game.

NETWORKING

Networking and Advice

drop-in area

In amongst all of the speakers and sessions, we know most of you will want to get down to some hardcore networking. Which is why we’ve got not one but two networking areas for you

The event offers delegates the opportunity to network pre, post and during the event with our Elite Business Event (EBE) app,

supported by iWaz.at. The EBE app gives attendees the opportunity to engage with speakers, exhibitors, partners and sponsors prior to the event. Plan out your day, from the seminars and workshops to attend, stands to visit and pre-arranged meetings with potential new business connections. You can pose your questions to speakers through the chatter feed, and discover new connections via the app long after the event is over, even if you don’t get the chance to network with them face to face on the two days.

Networking sessions run across the two days allowing attendees to offer continued support and engagement. The main event networking sessions are being run by Business Scene, the business support network for SME’s and entrepreneurs, and the VIP networking breakfasts is in conjunction with Urbano Network, London’s innovative business networking community.

In association with GrowthAccelerator (Business Growth Service), a government-backed initiative offering support to businesses with the potential to improve and develop, we will be staging a drop-in area hosted by some of the country’s most successful growth specialists. If you are a business looking for further information on what government support is available to help you reach your growth targets, then make sure to stop by the GrowthAccelerator’s drop-in clinics at Elite Business Event 2015.

These drop-in sessions will enable business owners and operators to gain invaluable advice and, if necessary give their businesses a much-needed shot in the arm. You’ll have the opportunity to meet the business growth managers and coaches whose role is to identify the pain points in your organisation and formulate a plan of action to solve these through mentoring, access to finance and leadership training grants. Drop by to talk to the team and see if your business is eligible for support.

Before you arrive, download the EBE app to plan your visit and connect with others who will be at the event

SEMINAR SPEAKERS

Focusing on real-life experience and actionable advice, our seminars bring the best and brightest business leaders and entrepreneurs to share game-changing growth skills and first-hand industry insight

Packing over a decade of entrepreneurial experience, Meisl co-founded Sponge in 2002, one of the UK’s first mobile agencies. Last year he launched WiForia, which delivers personalised in-store experiences based on a customer’s location, actions and history. In terms of extra-curricular activities, polyglot Meisl speaks multiple languages and is board director of the Institute of Promotional Marketing.

This leading lady lives by her mantra ‘lead by example’ and enjoys life through goal setting, strategy, a high-performance team and collaboration. Ubl’s optimistic perspective drove the success of her seven-figure business and she was hailed a key person of influence in her industry. She was recently invited on BBC News and has been crowned female ambassador for Local Business Week.

Dad of two and skiing enthusiast, Dormer, has been the managing director of Rosh Engineering for 25 years. He subsequently joined the Institute of Directors (IoD) and, in 2012, was deservedly bestowed the title of chairman for a three-year term. After embarking on a mission to complete the full professional development offering at the IoD, he then qualified as a chartered director in 2013.

Ian Dormer, national chairman, Institute of Directors

Rich is an international deal maker. An Oxford University and the Inns of Court Law graduate, he has played a crucial role in brokering more than £10bn worth of global deals for a broad spectrum of multi-nationals, major organisations and super-brands, including Sony, Yahoo and Apple. He has also negotiated deals practicing as an entertainment and digital media lawyer for celebrated stars like Take That and Dido.

David Fogel, head of acceleration and deputy director, Wayra UK

SEMINAR SPEAKERSMArch 18

Fogel has been a mentor in five accelerators in three different continents and has worked with more than 350 start-ups. His experience has helped a wide range of companies find a product market fit, acquire customers and he has advised on raising early stage capital. His role at Wayra puts him in charge of working with start-ups to develop their product, secure finance and establish their place in the market.

Morter is best known for his campaign to sweep Rage Against The Machine to UK Christmas number one, helping them smash a Guinness World Record for downloads. Dubbed the ‘Social Media Hellraiser’ by FastCompany and the New York Times, Morter went on to create ‘Condescending Corporate Brand’, a fake company lampooning large companies trying to ‘do’ social media.

Orrill assists in the development and growth of energy efficiency, low carbon and renewable products with British Gas. After 39 years in the industry, his passion for energy efficiency and renewables led to his involvement in the UK’s first renewable gas project and him becoming a non-exec of E-Car, the UK’s first all-electric car club.

Slattery works as a ‘virtual’ HR director for clients, tackling employment issues, helping them reshape teams and providing mentoring on managing staff effectively. His skills array includes organisational restructuring and reorganisation projects, the development of performance review and reward systems and coaching managers and supervisors through a variety of training and development media. An HR Hero.

Fresch heads up marketing for Eventbrite in UK and Ireland. He has previously worked for Expedia and eBay – where he led a range of consumer marketing and customer engagement initiatives – and he has an MBA from Cornell University. He has garnered plenty of experience working in the events industry from his time at Richmond Events, where he organised senior level business conferences.

JUST EAT famously brainwashed celeb chef Anthony Worrall Thompson into becoming an anti-cooking rebel and floated on the London Stock Exchange in 2014.

A business journo by trade, Thomas was part of the founding team at Smarta, having previously edited Startups.co.uk and a number of B2B titles. He now specialises in content for businesses and works with brands to devise jaw-dropping content strategies to wow customers. Thomas can share practical tips business owners can use to create gripping content and convert it into sales.

As founder of several successful ventures including Sign-Up.to, McNeil considers his forte to be self-service internet technologies. Sign-Up.to has spent the last decade harnessing the power of email and mobile marketing for businesses. a game plan for aCCelerateD groWth through a healthy SaleS engine

Companies House incorporates and dissolves limited companies, registers the information companies are legally required to supply and makes that information available to the public. This workshop will help businesses decide which company structure suits them and tailor that structure to the nature of their sector. It will highlight the difference between a sole trader and a limited country, set out the options for incorporation, clearly explain the responsibilities of a director and outline the documents a company must file.

Cook has over 25 years under her belt in high-profile roles in recruiting, building, managing and motivating sales teams, as well as having penned the international best-selling books The Secrets of Success in Selling and A New You. In this workshop, delegates can devise strategies and templates to rev up their sales engine and empower their team, whilst avoiding any recruiting blunders. Taking a look at how other leaders have addressed their own challenges, this workshop will really help delegates soup up their sales.

Ben Kench, author, Selling For Dummies

Simply a better Way to Win in your buSineSS

Led by the UK’s number one sales and business growth specialist, this workshop promises to deliver fresh thinking on how businesses can achieve their fortunes. Kench will show delegates how to transform their profits and enlighten leaders on his conviction that it’s not all about cutting costs and grimly taking on all the world of business throws at you. Aimed at stimulating and inspiring fundamentally different approaches to enterprise, Kench challenges the small business norms and point to a better way to win.

As managing director for Elephants Child, Brown’s vision was to enable businesses to grow and improve profit, obtain a return on investment and enhance cash flow. With this workshop, Brown will help them realise growth and impart key learnings from some of the biggest success stories of the of the last year. Delegates will leave with a practical guide to help drive growth and improve cash flow and profit four times faster, as well as knowledge on how they can gain stronger personal engagement and satisfaction.

In another life, Keighery managed corporate clients for NatWest before becoming a partner at Clydesdale Bank but now he is the go-to man at Funding Knight for money matters. His workshop can show businesses the benefits of peer-to-peer business lending, how to secure additional funds through alternative finance and reasons why they should consider raising funds to support business growth. This workshop will help delegates understand the crowdfunding landscape in the UK and feel comfortable in planning and executing a successful equity crowdfunding campaign for their businesses. The session will explore some of the core crowdfunding models, the UK’s key players, the ins-and-outs of equity crowdfunding and the Crowdcube application process, as well as providing insightful tips and tricks to successfully secure investment.

This workshop explores the importance of employee engagement, as well as the links between how staff feel, how they behave towards customers and how those customers feel about the business in return. Hosted by two experts in specialist business consultancy, this session centres on the measurement and improvement of employees’ interactions with customers. It focuses on the balance between rational and emotional engagement, measuring the impact it has on colleague behaviour and its links to customer advocacy.

For many business owners, managing cashflow can be a real tightrope walk. This workshop will discuss the latest views and best practice for protecting businesses from financial risks. Invaluable for start-ups and SMEs, this session will see Experian’s credit experts discuss how to improve cash flow, reduce the risk of bad debt and provide seven key tips delegates can use to achieve a healthy credit score. With a focus on customer and supplier performance, this workshop will provide tools to help nurture your business.

Matt Sperring, director of Channel Partners EMEA, Digital River

Stoney has over ten years of expertise and inside knowledge of the automation industry; nobody is better placed to identify areas where businesses can realise efficiency gains within their finance department through automation. In this workshop, he will advise businesses on how to significantly improve visibility over day-to-day cashflow and position for sustained growth with a more scalable finance model. Delegates will learn how cloud-based invoice processing works in order to avoid late payment penalties and losing invoices.

Phone systems have come a long way and chances are businesses may not be taking advantage of new communication technology that could transform the way things are done. During this workshop, Lucas will show delegates how to transform business communications with flexible, low-cost and innovative technology to ensure businesses never miss a customer call again. The session will run through how to take advantage of an all-inclusive solution with robust features and improve collaboration through effortless conferencing and HD video calls.

As a CIPR accredited professional, Lewis has years of experience in helping businesses raise their profile in the media from local to national level campaigns. The aim of this workshop is to bring a fresh approach to PR, going back to basics, to lay out the bare essentials of a successful campaign. Whilst tackling the myths and benefits of PR, this workshop will teach simple tools with which delegates can create a DIY PR campaign, offering bitesize tips on building awareness of brand identity and how PR can be applied to everyday situations.

Many business owners contemplate how to leave their business at retirement. But those thoughts tend to centre on finances, rather than whether the company has the people and skills required to develop and grow. Wardman’s passion lies in working with businesses to link individual and team actions to the strategy of the business. This session will help delegates understand their stage of growth, evaluate their options, make effective choices and formulate a succession plan that will help the business continue to grow.

Finding the most cost-effective cash flow finance can be a challenge, particularly given the increased range of options available. The goal of this workshop is to help leaders navigate the options for cash flow finance and show how to select the lender that best suits individual needs. Carter will show leaders how to make their business look attractive to different types of lenders, minimise the time spent on managing the facility and present their company to secure the lowest cost offer whilst avoiding any hidden fees.

With over half a century of commercial law credentials, Ronald Fletcher Baker LLP Solicitors bring this two-part workshop to delegates that explains the various business structures available to SMEs in order for entrepreneurs to choose which best fits their business. With most companies employing staff, it is vital to seek guidance on all matters of employer / employee responsibility and on handling issues such as disciplinary and grievance procedures. This workshop will inform employers on how to manage HR effectively to boost productivity.

For almost every business, a tailored insurance policy is a must. With over 300,000 customers and counting, Simply Business is now the UK’s biggest insurance broker for small businesses. This workshop covers the insurance essentials, including everything from public and employer’s liability to solutions built for specific trades. With Simply Business’s handy insurance kit, in this quick session business owners will be able to discover the right insurance for them supported by a ten-point cover checklist and Q&As with leading experts.

Makwana’s renowned reputation precedes him for all the right reasons; this serial entrepreneur has helped to deliver £12m of funding to support over 2,200 UK businesses. This workshop will show how Rockstar overhauled its marketing and sales model, a bold move which saw sales triple and heavily reduced its overall budget. ABOUT SHOREDITCH

SHOREDITCH

Picking a location for an event is rarely a foregone conclusion but there are few places in London more appropriate for a high-growth business show than Shoreditch

Acting as the spiritual centre for Britain’s recent tech revival, Old Street’s Silicon Roundabout has

brought some of the biggest brands in the world to the heart of the East End, drawing in high-profile names like Facebook, Google, Amazon and Intel. This, coupled with a thriving start-up scene, makes Shoreditch a great place to imbibe a bit of Britain’s entrepreneurial culture.

Given its status as start-up central, it’s hardly surprising the area has scores of coffee outlets. Serious caffeine connoisseurs would do well to check out Nude Espresso, whose self-roasted blends offer an unparalleled coffee-drinking experience. And if you like more moggy with your mocha, be sure to check out Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium – as London’s first cat cafe, this is a Shoreditch institution.

For those looking for a fuel that leaves them a little less jittery,

there are plenty of places in Shoreditch that offer a fine repast. London institution and sovereign of steakhouses, The Hawksmoor first opened its doors in Spitalfields and is the place to get your teeth into one of the city’s most succulent cuts of meat. A lower key option is Bleecker St Burger; this street-food staple now has a permanent home in Spitalfields Market and is a contender for one of Britain’s best burgers.

Not every offering centres around red meat however. A favourite of the east end epicure, Brick Lane’s Beigel Bake is London’s oldest bagel shop and serves up delicious doughy treats 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Shutterbug serves up a blend of crepes and cocktails, making it the perfect place to grab breakfast or a wee bevvy. For something a little more exotic, be sure to head over to Dishoom, a Bombay-style cafe serving up a modern take on

traditional Indian food. There’s a good chance after a full

day of seminars and workshops, you’ll be wanting to network in more intimate surroundings or just unwind with drink in hand. Former Elite Business cover stars BrewDog serve up their iconoclastic craft beers at BrewDog Shoreditch, offering a little edge for ale aficionados. The Crown and Shuttle offers great beer and food in a relaxed atmosphere, its unspoiled charm proving a hit for anyone looking for an unfussy brew. If you’re into masochism and hard liquor then you shouldn’t miss Danger of Death, an unsung hero of a speakeasy that prides itself on the lethality of its cocktails.

One Shoreditch institution that cannot be ignored is BOXPARK, the world’s first pop-up mall. Constructed from stripped and refitted shipping containers, it’s a taste of Shoreditch start-up culture in microcosm, with up-and-coming brands rubbing shoulders with familiar faces. Household names like GAP and MOO.com sit side by side with the likes of designer headphone makers Urbanears and Twisted Time, the store dedicated to design-led watches. There’s plenty of food and drink on offer here too: Korrito serves up a fusion of authentic Korean BBQ and delicious burritos, Dum Dums Donutterie is the place to go to get your cronut on and Milk Tea & Pearl provides a little taste of Taiwanese bubble tea.

It’s also worth taking in all the attractions the Shoreditch streets have to offer. Brick Lane’s relationship with street art has been long-established; dipping a little deeper than Banksy, the multimedia work of D*Face and Ben Eine’s iconic shutter lettering are a part of the very fabric of Shoreditch. The area is also lucky to be home to some of DALeast’s fractured metallic creatures and Vhils’ striking wall-carved portraits. All in all, there’s lots to see for those wanting to drink in some of East London’s vibrant creativity.
