Photographer Elliott Erwitt was recently commissioned by luxury single malt brand, TheMacallan, to capture the spirit of Scotland in the “Great Scottish Adventure.” Elliott, who’sknown for his shrewd observational skill and subtle humorous style, came back with 158fantastic new images, some of which you can see right here. As The Macallan states, “Shotagainst dramatically different backdrops in the Highlands and Islands, Glasgow andEdinburgh, Elliott captures the beauty of the perfect moment. His collection showcases thetraditions and eccentricities of the Scottish people, as well as, his most loved subjects –dogs.”

Even more interesting is that he shared some great street photography tips about the art ofobservation and on being out in the field. Here are 12 of our favorite tips interspersed withinhis unique photos of Scotland. Enjoy.

1. La fotografía es un arte de observación // Photography is an art of observationEs sobre encontrar algo interesante en lugares corrientes. He descubierto que tiene poco quever con lo que ves, sino con la forma en que lo ves. // It’s about finding something interestingin an ordinary place. I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to dowith the way you see them.

2. Empieza poniendo atención // Start caringSólo tienes que preocuparte por lo que está a tu alrededor y preocuparte por la humanidad yla comedia humana. Entonces, puedes encontrar fotos en cualquier lugar. Es simplementeuna cuestión de darse cuenta de las cosas y organizarlas. // You just need to care aboutwhat’s around you and have a concern with humanity and the human comedy. Then, you canfind pictures anywhere. It’s simply a matter of noticing things and organising them.

3. No pienses demasiado, solo hazlo // Don’t overthink it, just do itCuanto más pienses sobre un disparo, más fácil es que lo pierdas. Si estás pensando mucho,estás pensando mal. A veces solo tienes que disparar. Cuando estoy en el instante, no piensoen nada. Estoy bloqueado en no-pensar. // The more you think about a shot, the easier it is tolose it. If you’re thinking long, you’re thinking wrong. Sometimes you just have to take theshot. When I’m in the moment, I’m not thinking at all. I’m locked in non-thought.

9. Elige tu cámara sabiamente // Choose your camera wiselyHay una profunda diferencia por ejemplo entre una simple no-reflex, cámara de visor directo(como una Leica con telémetro), y una SLR.
