Email Marketing Mistakes You Must Avoid
In this article I am going to discuss what mistakes you must avoid when email marketing. Your email
campaign will either make or break your business so you must know how to use it properly.
The purpose of your email campaign is to build upon the relationship that you have developed with your
subscriber. The more trust you develop the more likely people are to purchase from you. Get it wrong and
that relationship may never to able to be restored.
Too Many Irrelevant Emails
The number of emails you send out to your list is a personal choice. However, whatever frequency you
choose if you begin to send too many that are not relevant to those on your list then people will either no
longer open them or they will unsubscribe.
Therefore it is important to find out on a regular basis what topics are relevant to your list.
Poor Headlines
If your subject heading has certain words that are considered to be associated with spam then your email
may end up in a spam filter and never be seen. Be careful if you are offering something for free as the word
FREE could trigger the spam filter!
Links Within Your Emails
If you are sending your subscriber to an external link that goes to an affiliate product then make sure that the
url you use is not the original long affiliate link. Long urls can trigger spam filters.
Use a url shortener or better still use something like this:
mywebsite.com/recommends/product
Email Width
Ideally your email width needs to be no wider than 200 characters so that your subscribers do not have to
scroll to the left or right in order to read your writing. It helps provide an easier more fluent read for your
subscribers if you do this.
Providing Value
Every email that you send out must be valuable to the reader. If you bombard your subscribers with
irrelevant promotions and hard selling then you will put most people off.
Only send an email if you know that it will help the recipient. Offering a product that they need is fine.
However, if every email is a promotion then people will not bother to open your emails when you are
actually providing some valuable free information.
Therefore split up your emails into pure content ones and separate promotional ones so that your subscribers
are expecting valuable content most of the time.
