Group News:

Visual Arts First ever "Fine Art and Artisan Boutique" took place during the Holiday House Tour sponsored by the Sandwich Chamber of Commerce. We were only up and running for 4 hours but, during that time we had a load of sales and were able to spread the word about the new Sandwich Arts Alliance. It was generally felt that people will be looking for us next holiday season. 23 of our artists and artisans took part and we abundantly filled a room at the Fessenden House. Over 500 people streamed through the room. It is expected that this event will appear for years to come as part of the Sandwich Holly Days. Oh, and by the way... we passed out 140 packages of freshly baked cookies to our attendees!

Open Studio will continue to take place in Room #2 at the Library on January 7, 14, 21, 28 and Feb. 11 and 18th. This is a great way to set aside time to be creative and to get to know some of your fellow artist's within the Alliance. Art, Music, and Drama Classes! Sign-ups are now available online at sandwichartsalliance.org, Check them out. These classes are scheduled to begin the week of February 22 and will continue for 6 wks. The Visual Arts group has added several new classes this semester. Please think about taking one of our classes or workshops and spread the word to friends and neighbors about what is being offered right here in Sandwich. You are now able to sign up and pay right on our web site. Thank you so much to the Library for all of their cooperation and help in facilitating our creative endeavors. Artist's Circle: will be held on Tuesday, February 23 in Room #2 at the Sandwich Public Library. Everyone is so very welcome to attend and learn about what each of us create. Everyone who is a member is encouraged to bring something they have made and as time allows, speak about the work and the process. More details will be sent out soon.

Literary Arts The year 2015 saw the incredible launch of the Sandwich Arts Alliance and the wonderful inception of our own Literary Arts Group. Between April and December we held 8 monthly meetings (at least), acquired more than 20 new members, and had 4 guest speakers, including publisher Tom Lewis, library staff Lauren Robinson and Colleen Lynch who talked about writing research; Gwen Friss, Cape Cod Times’ book reviewer; and Laura Carlyle and Debra Morris from Sandwich High School English department and STEM. We writers participated in:

· SandwichFest (June) · Fall for the Arts, (October) with “Writers on Writing,” a six-hour event that included 4 panel discussion, 6 workshops,

and 1 demonstration · The Sandwich Writes! library exhibit and reception · Beth’s Tea Room Christmas book sale

In less than a year, the Alliance has established an identity and credibility in the community. We’ve gotten grants and attracted attention. Look out, 2016! NEW WRITING GROUPS! One of the objectives the Alliance’s Literary Arts group identified in the December meeting was to provide writing support for members. As a result, four members have agreed to offer start-up Writing Groups. If any of the following groups interest you, get in touch with the contact person for more information… Writing Your Best Fiction The focus of this group is to help writers of fiction, at every level, to find their voices and improve all aspects of their craft through discussion, readings, critiques, writing exercises, and mentoring,. We offer a nurturing, supportive atmosphere in which each writer can improve his/her writing and make significant progress to reach personal writing goals. Please join us! Contact: Carolyn LeComte, [email protected] Writing Memoir This group welcomes beginning memoirists who wish to share their writing and receive constructive comment in a supportive environment. Our goal is to encourage reflection on important life experiences, to express them with feeling and clarity, and to focus on improving the craft of writing. Contact: Catherine Kelly-Mahon, [email protected] Writing Children's Books (for ages 2-8) WILL START IN SPRING If you have ever considered writing children's books, now is the time to start it! The purpose of this writers group will be to help your creative ideas come to life on paper in an encouraging, supportive atmosphere. Looking forward to having you join us! Contact: Anita A. Caruso, [email protected] or Dean Coe, [email protected] YOUR HELP NEEDED! Dean Coe and I have co-chaired the Literary Arts group since it started. Recently Dean resigned as a result of other obligations and I also need to step down soon in order to complete researching and writing a new biography. Help is essential if we’re going to build on the excellent foundation that Literary Arts has laid and develop our objectives of offering writers opportunities for marketing, education, critiquing, and mentoring/community service. Carolyn LeComte, Jim Watts, Catherine Kelly, Anita Caruso, Bill Burbank and Nils Bockmann have expressed interest in the Literary Arts Group and willingness to take on various roles, some decided, some not. Come to the JANUARY 20 meeting, 4-6, library, to discuss plans, and ways to help. Our next meeting is Wed. January 20, 4-6 at the Library. The Alliance Meet and Greet is Jan 31st, the last one was lots of fun! Plan to join us! With thanks to all, especially Dean Coe for his time and contributions to the Literary Arts group! Other news: Carolyn LeComte wrote an opinion piece for the Cape Cod times regarding Bill Cosby and his horrible behavior towards women…

Dean Coe releases new Chesterton title at Titcomb’s bookstore.
