1. Introduction

In year 2100, the resources such as edible water, oil, natural gas

had been used up, the land had been totally polluted and no longer

liveable again. One of a foreteller had also predicted out that there

2

Page 3: Enbe 'future town' report

will had a doom day in 2150. Within this 50 years, as the mayor of

the town, I have now decided to save the population by building a

new town on the sky where all human being can live away from the

polluted environment.

The city that I’m going to create had been named as ‘Last Life’.

The reason why this town named as is to let human being never

again to destroy the natural and the environment. Hence, ‘Last

Life’ had represented there is no more the third chance for them.

This town takes about 40 years to complete and the remaining 10

years is to move all the living things around the world such as

animals, human being, plants and so on to the town.

This report is to present out how the ancient town, present town

and the future town strategically built, the alternative technology to

replace the resource and create a new management to conserve

the nature.

3

Page 4: Enbe 'future town' report

2. Making of a town

What is a town?A built-up area with a name, defined boundaries, and local government, that is larger than a village and generally smaller than a city.

A normal town had its population about 150,000 – 300,000 with its size 70km2.

What a sustainable town should have?

Public transport able to reach every parts in the town.

Proper infrastructure and facilities.

Well organized land use.

Zero corruption among government.

Renewable energy as power sources.

Low carbon transportation.

Emphasize on protecting environment.

Support green building in the town.

4

Page 5: Enbe 'future town' report

What makes a good town?A basic element should found in a good town is provide and

fulfilled the needs of the people with complete infrastructure

and facilities such as health services, transportation, security and

more. Besides, well managing the land by clearly zoning out the

industrial area, education area, commercial area, residential area

and forest reserve.

A good town also need to have a stable politics, economy and

social. It also should use renewable energy as power source so

that it can sustain itself in the future.

Moreover, a good town is ruled by a zero corruption government

and there are rules to protect the human rights. Beside,

government should also have a good vision to improve the

town.

A good town also able to comfort everyone in it. It should have

cultural exchange, communication, space for talking among each

other.

What is future city?

5

Page 6: Enbe 'future town' report

To build a future city is a tough things for everyone in the construction industry as every people has their own minds and opinions for the future city. In my mind, a future city consists of everything that mentioned above (what makes a good town & what a sustainable town should have).

Future city also compare the drastic changes between the ancient town and present town and make improvement to build a future city. Examples of the changes are the services, laws, building structures as well as technologies.

6

Page 7: Enbe 'future town' report

3. Investigation & data collection - Ancient town,

Memphis, Egypt

Memphis is a city and the capital of ancient Egypt. Memphis is

located south of the Nile River delta, on the west bank of the river

and about 24 kilometre south modern Cairo.

Memphis became the capital of Ancient Egypt for over eight

consecutive dynasties during the Old Kingdom. The city reach its

peak in the 6th dynasty as the centre of the worship of Ptah (God of

creation, the arts and fertility).

7

Page 8: Enbe 'future town' report

Why Memphis, Egypt will reach the peak?

i. Law and the Legal System

The reason why Memphis able to reach the peak is they

emphasize on laws.

Egyptian law was based on a common sense view of right and

wrong, following the codes based on the concept of Ma’at (truth,

order, balance and justice in the universe)

This concept allowed that everyone should be viewed as equal

under the laws, regardless of wealth or social position. But these

law doesn’t apply on slaves which is the lowest position in the

Egyptian society.

However, punishment was carried out will affect the entire family of

the guilty suffered as well. For example, when individuals were

sentenced to exile, their children were automatically outlawed

along with them. If one of their relative desert from military service,

the entire family might be imprisoned.

8

Page 9: Enbe 'future town' report

ADVANTAGE:

- Every of the citizen get the equal punishment according to

the law

- Punishment is applied depend on the crime they did.

- Law is carried out to the individual regardless of wealth or

social position.

DISADVANTAGE:

- Slaves is treated as a working machines as they don’t get

protected by law.

- Citizen are forced to desert from military service, otherwise

their family will outlawed along with them if they got

punishment.

Conclusion

Memphis, Egypt has a well-structured law in the town. For this reason, to build a future town, we can refer to this town to create our law and human right but it just need to be modified to become a better law for the town. First of all, in Memphis, workers do not get any of the protection from the law. Hence, we need to modify it into law should be carried out regardless to the wealth or social status.

Besides, when a citizen had committed a crime, their family will automatically outlawed along with them. In my opinion, this rule shouldn’t run like this because punishment is applied is to let the prisoner to learn a lesson or turn themselves to a new leaf but not their family members.

ii. Government and Bureaucracy

9

Page 10: Enbe 'future town' report

Besides, Memphis also reach the peak is because they had a well-

structured Egyptian society.

ADVANTAGE:

- Rapid development of economic growth

- Full employment of manpower

- Every citizen keep a job

- Social welfare

DISADVANTAGE:

- Central State Authority holds all means of production

- Workers are treated as a slaves

- Government owns all the properties and business

- No freedom speech

Conclusion:

10

Page 11: Enbe 'future town' report

In communism country, although life of every citizen is

granted by the government but every of the citizen owns

nothing, they just spend their life working for the government

and they also don’t have freedom speech to the social.

Hence, a new town should operate like a capitalist country is

much better than communist country but government should

also treat their citizen by providing them social welfare.

Moreover, in communism country effectively dictates what

can or cannot be done in the realm business. There are

defined limitations for the amount a business can produce

and how much money it can earn. There is things we can

modify it into a better government and bureaucracy by not

controlling the limitation of the business but taxes that

collected from the company should enlarge the country and

create more job opportunity.

4. Investigation & data collection

11

Page 12: Enbe 'future town' report

- Present town,

Shinjuku, Japan

Shinjuku is a special ward located in Tokyo Metropolis, Japan. It is

a major commercial and administrative centre, housing the busiest

train station in the world (Shinjuku Station) and the Tokyo

Metropolitan Government Building, the administration centre for

the government of Tokyo.

Everyone knows Japan faced a lots of earthquakes in this century.

People pay more attention to the earthquake tolerance of the

buildings. As a result, the number of companies relocating to more

reliable buildings have increased substantially and a higher

standards to against the earthquakes.

12

Page 13: Enbe 'future town' report

i. Technology

-Earthquake resistance of building

In Japan, Building Standard Act has been strictly reviewed every

time we experienced a large earthquake.

All buildings are strictly required to have an earthquake resistance

structure. Without rigorous compliance to earthquake proof

standard set by a low, one can never get an approval of

construction of a building from a public administration office in

Japan.

It is said that the collapse ratio of the building as a result of a

powerful earthquake is extremely low in Japan compared to any

other countries.

How buildings resist earthquakes:

Vibrate during earthquakes

Are strengthened to resist earthquakes

Can be isolated from the shaking ground

13

Page 14: Enbe 'future town' report

Use dampers to reduce vibrations from earthquakes

ADVANTAGE:

- Protects internal belongings

- Give people sense of security

- Protect nearby human by collapsing of building

- Build by using light weight material

DISADVANTAGE:

- Do not work with an earthquake that is large on Richter

scale.

- Costs a lot of money so is not worthy for investor to invest to

the country

- Technical difficult.

Conclusion

For the future town, it probably is floating on the sky.

Although it doesn’t face earthquakes anymore but town is

still facing on the climate weather change (e.g. thunderstorm,

hurricane, collision among clouds). Hence, Japan had this

technology to prevent building collapse from earthquake. A

floating town in the future can use this technology to

overcome the changes of the weather.

14

Page 15: Enbe 'future town' report

In my opinion, although to build a building with an

earthquakes resistance had high technical difficulties and

also a higher cost to build but if it able to save thousands of

lives, it is worth to build it. Hence, a future town should be

consider of the sense of security but not costing of the

building when constructing a future town.

ii. Education

15

Page 16: Enbe 'future town' report

In Japan, education is compulsory at the elementary and lower

secondary levels. Most students attend public schools through the

lower secondary level, but private education is popular at the

upper secondary and university levels. Japan's education system

played a central part in Japan's recovery and rapid economic

growth in the decades following the end of World War II. Education

prior to elementary school is provided at kindergartens and day-

care centres.

Public and private day-care centre take children from under age

one on up to five years old. The programmes for those children

aged 3–5 resemble those at kindergartens. The educational

approach at kindergartens varies greatly from unstructured

environments that emphasize play to highly structured

environments that are focused on having the child pass

the entrance exam at a private elementary school.

Japan education system:16

Page 17: Enbe 'future town' report

6 years old study in elementary school until age of 12

Junior high school enrolled in age of 13 ~ 15

16 ~ 18 years old is educated in high school

There are several choices to be educated after graduated in

high school such as technology colleges, junior colleges,

universities and graduate schools in Japan are national,

public or private institutes

Special schools are available for physically/mentally-

challenged children who may have difficulty in studying at

general schools

ADVANTAGES:

- Greater social cohesion, trust and tolerance

- Less crime

- Political stability

- Greater social mobility and capital

- Increased productivity of co-workers

DISADVANTAGES:

17

Page 18: Enbe 'future town' report

- Makes student incapable in communicating with social

- Student unwilling to work with low pay job

- Student pride for themselves on their diversity

Conclusion

Students can be taught as speaking by presentation, training

as a leader, and also a critical thinkers. An independent mind

is also need to be taught in school. By following this

education system, students have more skills to tackle

problems when they work in social but not only one talented

in one division.

5. Investigation & data collection:

-Future town

Lusail City, Qatar

Qatar is one of the world’s fastest growing economies in the world. Once owing its wealth and prosperity to pearls and fishing, in a relatively short period of time, the country's has become one of the largest international business centres with a gross national income that ranks highly on the world stage. Qatar is sitting on the largest gas field in the world, representing an extremely valuable economic asset. Currently, Qatar heads the list of gas-exporting countries, with 77 million tons in yearly exports. The abundance of natural resources, in particular energy sources, has attracted a wide range of production and manufacturing industry, quickly establishing Qatar as a major enterprise zone.

19

Page 20: Enbe 'future town' report

In a short time Qatar has transformed itself into a major hub for numerous economic and cultural activities. What is more, the country is widely recognised for its historical and cultural significance and continues to attract a considerable number of historians, archaeologists and environmentalists.

i. Transport system and facilities in the

Lusail City

Integrated with Future Highway Network Development

Consistent with Roads Department Plans

Introduce & promote Public transportation systems

– Bus

The level of design detail across the city will be

staggering, from the litter bins to the railings to the bus

stop throughout the city.

– Light rail transit

Establish a network of light trains which will connect

the various districts.

– Water Transport

Water taxi will be one of the fastest and most enjoyable

ways of getting to and around the city. Besides, it also

doesn’t cause any pollution to the city.

20

Page 21: Enbe 'future town' report

– Pedestrian network & bicycle ways

The paths will connect the different districts of the city

to one another. This is because, citizen have sense of

security during cycling or walking to their destination.

- Underground parking

These public car parks are carefully designed and will

provide wide ranging services.

receive considerable numbers of visitors and are

connected by 10 pedestrian tunnels which stretch

across the districts

21

Page 22: Enbe 'future town' report

ii. Sustainable design objective

• Creation of character by reinforcing distinctive patterns of

sustainable development and culture diversity and choice

through a mix of compatible developments.

• Continuity of street frontages and where possible introduce

pedestrian weather protection.

• Use of external glass walling is restricted to maximum 50%

of the total facade.

• Provision of screens and horizontal / vertical protection for

larger expanses of glazing.

• Provision of windows in deeper recesses to reduce solar

glare attractive and safe.

• Cladding systems with natural stone as the primary material.

• Orientation should consider internal environmental quality,

such as ventilation and lighting.

iii. Sustainable open space network

Lusail city has dedicated 200,000m2, It is approximately 11%

of the total land (1,800,000m2)

The green space connect the city from its western edges all

the way to the waterfront to promote a pedestrian lifestyle

22

Page 23: Enbe 'future town' report

The sustainable green parks and the green area were

planned by the world class landscape architects after

completing an international competition

Conclusion:

In this future city, Lusail city, showed us that the strong social

and cultural foundation into a technologically advanced

modern sustainable city. Every of the design and

construction is mainly to the protection of the environment.

In my opinion, transport system can be improved especially

the bus. To build a future town, bus is no longer travelling on

the road. STRADDLING BUS is cheaper than a subway, the

partly solar-powered behemoth will span two lanes and carry

up to 1,200 people in a carriage raised 7 ft. above the

roadway, thus allowing cars to pass, or be passed,

underneath.

Besides, for the light rail transit (LRT) had been outdated of

travelling around the town. There are a new technology ‘The

Hyperloop’. This is a conceptual high-speed transportation

that replace LRT. It can travel with average speed around

962km/h. Hence, it’s a new solution for the traffic jam around

the town and also reduce accident on the road.

23

Page 24: Enbe 'future town' report

6. My future town-Last Life

This future town – Last Life is a massive redesign of the present

town and by referring the future town and make some modification

to build an all new future town. This future town plan is proposed

as the rising seawater caused by global warming and it is no

longer liveable for human being. For this reason, as a mayor of the

town had decided to build a future town by floating on the sky to

overcome the problem. There are ways to build a future town by

referring the ancient, present and also result of modifying the

future town.

i. Law and legal system

In Memphis, Egypt it has a strict law and treated everyone

the citizen fair and square. A future town should refer to this

system to set the law as nowadays justice can be bought by

the rich or the people who has a higher social status. Hence,

justice had been corrupted and many of the people get

prison innocently but the other get their freedom. Although

this system runs well, but it has an unfair treated to the

prisoner’s family because when one of their family member

committed a crime, every of their family member are being

outlawed. Thus, a future town must change this system by

only apply to the people who committed an illegal act.

24

Page 25: Enbe 'future town' report

ii. Government and bureaucracy

By following the government and bureaucracy in Memphis,

although every of the citizen get a job and also social welfare

but every of the workers are treated as a slaves. However,

by according this system to manage a town, it can grow their

economic rapidly. For this reason, this system must be

modify by attracting investor to invest to the town and create

more opportunity for the citizen and also social welfare are

given to every of the citizen. Besides, government should let

all of their citizen a freedom speech and accept it with open

minded. Government can improve themselves and also the

town by taking others opinion.

iii. Technology

As a mayor of the town had decided to build a future town on

the sky. Hence, by building a town on the sky exist of many

obstacles. One of the biggest problem is the climate changes

of weather. Skyscrapers in future town are easily collapse

when they meet thunderstorm, speedy wind or even collision

between clouds. In Japan, there is a technology who resist to

the earthquake by waving according to the magnitude of

earthquake. This technology can apply on the future town as

skyscrapers can also waving itself when there is climate

changes of weather.

iv. High educated citizen

As we can see, a high educated country is developed and

advanced such as United State of America, United Kingdom,

25

Page 26: Enbe 'future town' report

Japan, Europe, and so on. However, there are also comes a

lots of illegal immigrants to work for the country. Thus, there

are no more job opportunity for the local and unemployment

rate in the country is quite high compare to others country.

Hence, there are solution for this issue is the government

should strictly limit the migration of the foreign workers. For

this reason, job for the local had been granted and

unemployment rate in the country is also been stable. In the

future town, education is also need to be emphasized to

develop the town.

v. Transport system and facilities

Transport system and facilities is very important to a

developed and advanced country, same as the future town.

In future town should integrated with Future Highway

Network Development, Consistent with Roads Department

Plans and also promote using public transport such as bus,

bicycle, train and more. This can protect the environment by

reducing the carbon monoxide around the air and also

prevent run out of natural resource.

vi. Additional superior infrastructure

and facilities

a. District cooling

26

Page 27: Enbe 'future town' report

District Cooling is an environmental friendly technology for

producing and distributing refrigeration to real estate. For an

efficient system all included parts of the supply chain need to

function efficient.

Save 675 million kilogram of CO2 annually

b. Straddling bus

Cheaper than a subway, the partly solar-powered behemoth

will span two lanes and carry up to 1,200 people in a

carriage raised 7 ft. above the roadway, thus allowing cars to

pass, or be passed, underneath.\

Reduce rate of accident

Reduce amount of cars

Environment protected

c.Pneumatic waste collection

27

Page 28: Enbe 'future town' report

Pneumatic Waste management is recycling facilities differs

majorly from the other types of developments. Therefore to

achieve a good recycling rate in the new high and medium

rise developments, measures must be adopted which will

enable the residents to segregate their waste at source itself.

Collect 68 tons of waste daily

No trucks required

d. Air cargo

Air cargo is built is to improve the import and export between

town. There are also another future town that proposed

which floating on the sea, underneath town and so on. To

enhance the economy in the town, import and export play a

important rule on it.

Economy stable

Boost working capital

e. Gas network

28

Page 29: Enbe 'future town' report

The purpose of this document is to describe the works

related to the supply and installation of the gas service riser

and pressure reducing station and metering for the users in

gas distribution network at future town.

Gas service riser

Reducing pressure station (customer primary meter)

f. Hyperloop train

The Hyperloop is a conceptual high-speed transportation

system.  It travel by reducing pressure in the tubes which pressurized capsules ride on a cushion of air that is driven by a combination of linear induction motors and air compressors. For this reason, it doesn’t using any of the natural resources but just only one compressor.

Future train that able to reach destination in short time

Travel by using compressor

No natural resources needed

g. Vertical farming

29

Page 30: Enbe 'future town' report

Supported by

worldwide as it can produce times of foods in a limited space.

Vertical Farming is a revolutionary approach to producing high

quantities of nutritious and quality fresh food all year round, without

relying on skilled labour, favourable weather, high soil fertility or

high water usage.

Productive

Increase growing area

h. Parks & open spaces

In future town, there are approximately 20% of land is use for open

spaces and parks to enhance the environment and also for people to

have a better lifestyle together with the natural.

30

Vertical farming is planting plants within a skyscraper greenhouse or on a vertically built building. The modern idea of vertical farming uses techniques similar to glass houses, where natural sunlight can be augmented with artificial lighting.

In future, the area for agriculture is getting lesser but a town still need a food resource to sustain themselves in the future, so vertical farming is strongly

Page 31: Enbe 'future town' report

i. Green building in residential area

Green Building Principles

Energy efficiency

Resource efficiency

Durability

Indoor environmental quality

Homeowner education maintenance

Sustainable site development

Indoor environment quality enhancement

Indoor Air Quality seeks to improve air impurities. Buildings

rely on a properly designed ventilation system to provide a

good ventilation of cleaner air from outdoors or recirculated,

filtered air. Hence, it no longer using air-conditioner to

decrease the temperature of the air.

31

Page 32: Enbe 'future town' report

Energy efficiency

Generation of renewable energy through solar power, wind power can significantly reduce the environmental impact of the building. By using renewable energy to sustain a town, environment is protected and people have a better liveable town in the future.

Strom water management

Strom water management system is the accumulation and deposition of rainwater for reuse on-site, rather than allowing it to runoff. Uses include water for garden, water for livestock, water for irrigation, water for domestic use with proper treatment, and indoor heating for houses.

32

Page 33: Enbe 'future town' report

i. Zoning

The future city planning scheme controls land use and development within the future town. It contains state and local planning policies, zones and overlays and other provisions that affect how land can be used and developed.

The planning scheme determines if a planning permit is required to change the use of land or to construct a building or make other changes to the land and specifies relevant assessment criteria when a planning permit is required.

In most instances, buildings and works in the municipality, whether residential or business, must be approved by Council through the planning permit application process.

33

Page 34: Enbe 'future town' report

ii. Transportation system & routes

a) Hyperloop train

A future has a well-planned transportation routes which

travels all around the town and citizen able to arrive to their

destination without using any vehicles. Hence, it is very

convenience to every people in the town. It also create a low

accident rate in the future town as this transportation system

had become an alternative option for people to arrive their

destination. Thus, amount of vehicle on the road is

decreased.

b) Highways, bicycle and

pedestrian routes

34

Page 35: Enbe 'future town' report

35

Page 36: Enbe 'future town' report

c) Pedestrian walkway

d) Straddling bus & Hyperloop train

36

Page 37: Enbe 'future town' report

iii. Energy resourcesIn this future town, there is a part of the land which apply energy resources to the whole town. For this reason, power supply with coal-fired power plant, fuel combustion are

37

Page 38: Enbe 'future town' report

eliminated by people as it cause pollution to the environment. Solar panel and windmill is built because when the town is floating on the sky, it gets enough wind and also sunlight to produce energy to whole town.

7. Conclusion

38

Page 39: Enbe 'future town' report

After weeks of doing researching and considering on how to build

a future town, it is extremely challenging for me to design and plan

a town. I believe that the town floating on the sky able to provide a

good and sustainable for people in the coming years.

In this report, all of the parts are been through a deep

consideration and discussion with colleagues and also a tough

way to get the approval from the mayor of the town. Hence, if this

proposal had been achieved, people are able to live in a

sustainable town together with eco-friendly town in the future.

Thank you.
