Procedure/ Anticipatory Set:
Link prior knowledge and beliefs of Environmental issues to new material.
Through the use of Bell Ringer questions, interactive web-site, ticket out the
door and independent practice students will gain a
better understanding of the importance of conserving energy. Students will
have a clear understanding of the impacts of energy waste and how they can
aid in creating a more positive environmental footprint.
Materials:
White Board or Chalkboard / Computer / Access to website
www.energyhog.org / Writing instrument / Ticket out the door
Ask students to answer the following questions:
Bell Ringer
1. What are some ways we could conserve energy in the home?
2. How can conserving energy in your home be beneficial?
Ask students for responses.

Independent Practice:
Students will discuss activity at home and suggestions for conserving energy.
We will discuss during Bell Ringer during our next class.
Ticket out the door
Students will answer the following questions
1. What did you like the most about this web-site and what did you like the
least?
2. How can you use this information in your home?
Objectives: In these activities, students will:
1. Have an understanding and be able to identify areas in their homes
where energy is lost.
2. Have an understanding of the tools and materials necessary to reduce
energy waste.
3. Be able to take newly gained information out of the classroom and to
students homes and families.
Overview: The lesson will focus on the importance of energy conservation.
The lesson will give the students tools and information in relation to energy
conservation.
Through the use of technology students will play an interactive game at
www.energyhog.org to explore and learn new information.
Upon completion of interactive activities, students will receive a certificate of
completion.
Learning Activity:
1. The lesson objective will be communicated to the learners by answering
the bell ringer questions and then discussing responses.

After bell ringer Q & A is conducted instructor will introduce that we are
going to an interactive website to learn more about energy conservation
in the home. This
Experience will allow students to inform their families and community
how to save money and the environment.
2. The motivator will be do discuss that if their families are able to save
money they may have extra money to spend on them and that they will
be playing a video game.
Provide Information / Lesson instructions:
A. Instruct students to open a web browser and go to web site
www.energyhog.org
B. Navigate students through web-site and instruct the following:
1. Once all students are at home page they will be instructed to type in
name and pick a character. I would assist students as needed.
2. Students would be instructed to complete all stages of interactive
game. The first stage I would model and instruct students to follow
step by step directions on screen.
3. When students have completed all stages of the interactive game Iwould instruct them to print certificate and give to Mr. Testo. If any
students struggle I would assist them.
4. Some students may finish early and I would instruct and guide them
to explore other activities on site. Advanced students would also be
instructed to find similar sites with information about the
environment.
Students could provide a short summary and present to class for
extra credit.
Provide Practice:
1. Students will have the opportunity to practice with the interactive
website to gain hands on information related to energy conservation.

2. To master the games and receive the official Energy Hog Buster
certificate may take repeated practice. This activity is done by one
student at a time, however classmates sitting next to each other may
help and
collaborate for gamming tips.
Provide Knowledge of Results:
1. Verbal feedback will be conducted once students begin game. I will
circulate around room to discuss the progress of students and help with
any questions. I will make suggestions and guide students to different
areas
of website.
2. Written feedback will be given in regards to obtaining certificate and
comments that are answered on the ticket out the door
Review of Activity:
1. The summary of the activity will be done with the ticket out the door
and observation of students comments, interest and willingness to
participate during lesson.
Method of Assessment:
1. Introductory Bell Ringer discussion
2. Circulating around classroom during lesson for questions and answers
3. Ticket out the door and independent practice
