Over 80 people from 22 countries around the world participated in the Workshop on Engaging Citizens in Development Management and Public Governance for the Achievement of the Millennium Development Goals on 21-23 June in Barcelona, Spain. The Workshop was organized by the Development Management Branch of DPADM/UNDESA, in cooperation with the General Directorate for Citizens Participation of the Government of Catalonia, as part of the three-day events to mark the 2010 UN Public Service Day.

Ms. Marta Oyanarte presented on methodologies and tools of citizens’ engagement in local development. She noted on the importance of building trust among different groups.

The final Session of the Workshop focused on new NGO and private sector initiatives on promoting ICT-based citizens’ engagement. At the end of the Workshop participants formed three working groups to discuss practical ways forward and Workshop recommendations on enhancing citizens’ engagement.
