Part 2requires the candidate to participatein a discussion o a topic selected bythe examiner.

    Listening - optional

    Candidates are assessed viaa listening test lasting about20 minutes and comprising 25

    short listening tasks. In part 1 (13questions), candidates listen to thesame question three times, with threediferent answers to that question.They have to choose the correctanswer. In part 2 (12 questions),candidates listen to a shortconversation or announcement. Theythen read a question about whatthey have heard, with our possibleanswers. They have to choose thecorrect answer.

    marks and involves a read andthink comprehension test, basedon some graphic or numericaldisplay, requiring very shortanswers. Question 4, also carrying20 marks, involves a read and writereormulation task using data tocomplete orms or diagrams.

    This qualification is intended or candidates who have reached a standard o productive Englishusage which will create an extremely good impression o their language skills. There would beno need or close supervision and scrutiny o the English o a successul candidate at this level.Linguistic and stylistic errors o all types will be rare.

    This examination will test linguistic skills and business knowledge at an advanced level. The

    techniques or handling, displaying, interpreting, transerring and reormulating inormation alreadyintroduced at the previous levels will be utilised or more advanced tasks. The qualification consistso a mandatory reading and writing exam and optional speaking and listening exams.

    second part requires the productiono a written text related to the article,within a given scenario. Question 2will require the candidate to producebusiness texts in the appropriate toneand style. Question 3 will be in twoparts. The first part will require thecandidate to reormulate inormationby way o a prcis o a longer text,within a given scenario. The secondpart will require the candidateto reormulate digital/graphical/numerical inormation into a writtenorm. Question 4 will require thecandidate to produce fluent andaccurate written texts in a range ostyles and genres.

    Speaking - optional

    Candidates are assessed by a 17minute examination. Part 1 consistso a warm up conversation duringwhich the candidate will be askedabout, or example, study and workambitions or the uture. Part 2requires the candidate to participatein a discussion o the topic selectedby the examiner.

    Listening - optional

    Candidates are assessed via alistening test lasting about 30

    minutes. The test comprises 15listening passages, each with twomultiple-choice questions. There aretwo parts. In part 1 (16 questions)candidates listen to a conversation.They then read two questions aboutthe conversation, both o which haveour possible written answers, andchoose the correct answers. In part2 (14 questions) candidates listen toa monologue. They then read twoquestions about the monologue, botho which have our possible writtenanswers, and choose the correctanswers.

    Section A (5 minutes) will bea general conversation onpredictable topics such aspersonal history, work, interests.The language content will berestricted to the structures,concepts and content prescribedor the level.

    Section B (5 minutes) will be alistening comprehension taskwith the candidate respondingto simple, spoken, work-relatedinstructions and directions givenby the examiner. The candidatewill demonstrate comprehensionby successully completing thetasks. Some questions will relateto a prompt-card eaturing simpletimetables and diagrams.

    Section C (5 minutes) will be apicture description in which thecandidate will answer questionsbased on a previously unseen,

    drawn picture (with a businesscontext), supplied by LCCI. Thepurpose is to test vocabulary andverb usage.

    Section D (5 minutes) will be adialogue in which the candidatewill take part in a brie, structured,transactional dialogue leadingrom the picture and continuingwithin the same business contextestablished in Section C. Thedialogue will be led by theexaminer and the candidate willuse a cue card supplied by LCCI.

Candidates will be expected to be at the CommonEuropean Framework Waystage Level (A2).

    Section B (5 minutes) will be alistening comprehension task,with the candidate respondingto spoken instructions given bythe examiner. The instructionsgiven and the responses expectedwill be o a more complex naturethan those o Preliminary Leveland will reflect the structuresand concepts o Level 1. Somequestions will relate to a prompt-card eaturing simple timetablesand diagrams.

    Section C (5 minutes) will dealwith the world o work. Thecandidate, prompted by theexaminers questions, will provideinormation about his/her job andplace o work. For candidates notin employment a drawn picture

    (supplied by LCCI) depictingcharacters in a range o fields owork will be used. The candidatewill choose one o the charactersand be asked to talk about theirjob and place o work.

    Section D (5 minutes) will be apicture description where thecandidate will answer questionson a previously unseen, drawnpicture with a business setting.The purpose is to test vocabularyand tenses.

    Section E (5 minutes) will be arole play, building on the situation

    depicted in the picture or SectionD. The exchanges will be moreopen ended and less scriptedthan at Preliminary level, so thatthe candidate can demonstratean ability to take part in astraightorward dialogue. Thecandidate will be given a cue cardsupplied by LCCI, outlining thetask.

    Candidates will be assessed bymeans o a 30 minute, one-to-one interview with an LCCI SEFICexaminer. The interview will consisto five sections:

    Section A (5 minutes) will bean introductory conversation,including personal history andwork-related topics.

    Section B (5 minutes) will bea description o a sequence odrawn pictures (supplied byLCCI) depicting a problem andan assessment o the candidatesability to relate the events in timeand modiy tenses and adverbialsaccordingly.

    Section C (10 minutes) will bea listening comprehension taskwhich will also test path-findingskills. The candidate will studya map or diagram (based on awork situation) and listen to arecorded announcement. Thesubsequent questions askedby the examiner will assess thecandidates ability to understandspoken inormation and apply itto path-finding tasks. At leastone question will require thecandidate, using the map or

    diagram, to provide directions toa destination.

    Section D (5 minutes) will bea reading comprehension taskusing written inormation orrealia. The candidate will begiven a written document (orexample, an advertisement or anannouncement) and be expectedto answer questions relating to it.

    Section E (5 minutes) will bea discussion, initiated by theexaminer and based on thedocument or section D, toassess the candidates ability toexpress preerences, opinions,agreement/disagreement andevaluation.

    Section A (5 minutes) will bean introductory conversation,ocusing on work-related topics.The candidate will be expectedto demonstrate a cohesivenessin language production wherebysentences and utterances buildupon each other and flowreasonably easily rom constructto construct.

    Section B (5 minutes) willbe a reading comprehensionexercise based on an item opersonal history and work-related inormation or realia.The candidate will be askedto study this briefly and thenanswer questions. The purposeo this section is to introducethe business scenario and testcomprehension o key vocabulary.

    Section C (10 minutes) will bea listening comprehension task.The candidate will listen to arecorded dialogue (which ollowson rom the business scenarioestablished in Section B) and take

    notes. Ater hearing the dialoguethe candidate will be asked torelate the main points o thedialogue and suggest remedies orpredict outcomes or the situationoutlined in the dialogue.

    Section D (10 minutes) will be areading comprehension task. Thecandidate will study a businessletter or report (which urtherdevelops the business scenarioestablished in sections B and C)and then briefly relay the contentsand explain certain expressionsselected by the examiner.

    Section E (5 minutes) will be arole play emanating rom thepreceding sections. The roleassigned, which will be outlinedon a cue card supplied by LCCI,will require the candidate toparticipate in the discussion andnegotiation o a amiliar businessproblem arising rom Section D.
