Operational Highlights

Secure Internet access and secure access to the information in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD’s datacenters are

two increasingly important services which are protected by CFISD’s Fortinet infrastructure. Fortinet is a

leading network security company that builds some of the most effective high speed UTM (Uniformed

Threat Management) NGFWs (Next Generation FireWall) on the market today. With CFISD’s current

Fortinet infrastructure, CFISD enjoys high speed and secure Internet connections to each of our ISPs

(Internet Service Providers). Additionally, students, teachers & administrative staff access the CFISD

datacenters via Fortinet UTM firewalls.

On Tuesday June 26th Elizabeth Montes

and David Deitsch were contacted by

Marvin Banks because he was having

problems with the Panic Buttons that were

recently installed through the entire school

district. This equipment is very fundamental

for emergency situations. After looking into

the configuration, Elizabeth noticed why

they were having problems and she went

ahead and configured approximately 60

ports in the 4500s throughout the school

district. On Wednesday June 27th,

Elizabeth and David met with Max

Churchman, a low voltage tech from

Facilities, at Sampson Elementary to test

the Panic Button. The test was a success!

Max was able to test 48 schools on Friday

and he will continue testing the rest of the

schools until the project is complete.

Elizabeth Montes, Bradley Mulligan, and Janet Martinez met with Paula Ross to review plans for

collecting data on all network closets, devising a schedule for completion, then how to incorporate the

maintenance of all closets into the Service Technician PAR Reporting for Fall 2018.

Bradley Mulligan is working with Rock Valentine, Art Ramirez, Chris Roberts, plus the ECN quadrants, to

collect and organize all campus networking information (sample data above). The team also consulted with Larry

Barrios to ensure that all PAR data is being incorporated into the plan. A schedule for this activity will be

published soon.

Michael Raspet and Kenneth Gibson visited DataCenter4 last week to conduct a site survey in

preparation for the relocation of eFinance servers the week of July 9th. Available rack space, power and

connectivity issues were addressed and found to be adequate for the relocation.

On Wednesday June 27th, ECN Team

members Sani Saqr assisted Anna Senties

and Tony Rogers, as well as school

technician Robert Rader, with installing 4

new switches at Cy Ridge for security

cameras that will be needed in the near

future. All of these switches had to have the

IOS downgraded on them before they could

be added to the current stacks.

Last week, ECN Team quadrant leader Anna Senties is pictured above working with Robert Rader,

installing additional switches at Cy Ridge, Cy Creek, Cy Fair and Campbell for the Security Camera

Project. The ECN Team is doing their best to stay ahead of the Security Camera Project rollout.

Unfortunately, there is not an official schedule for the camera project rollout and the ECN team learns of

the switch needs with very little time to respond.

The ECN team called AT&T and PS Lightwave to

investigate the issue. Gamma construction

Superintendent Doug Lancaster was instrumental

in helping to determine the correct action of

resolution. In the end, AT&T fixed the cable cut.

Summer is in full swing along with normal operational

duties of keeping facilities and summer schools up.

Renovations are also underway and this week Thornton

Middle School (pictured above) lost communications

due to a cable cut.
