ENTERPRISE DATA GOVERNANCE AND MASTER DATA MANAGEMENT

This three-day seminar is intended for compliance Managers, data Archi-tects, database Administrators, data integration Developers and MasterData Management Professionals, who are responsible for Managementand Governance of Enterprise data.

The seminar takes an in-depth look at the Business problems caused bypoorly managed data, and defines the requirements that need to be metfor a company to confidently define, manage and share master, transac-tional, analytic and unstructured data across operational and analytic ap-plications and processes.

In order to achieve Enterprise Data Governance, a company needs to in-vest in people, processes and a suite of technologies that support end-to-end Data Governance activities. These include:

• Enterprise Metadata Management• Data Modelling• Data Profiling• Data Cleaning• Data Integration (Batch, on-demand and event-driven)• Data Synchronisation• Master Data Management• Enterprise Content Management

During the three days we take an in-depth look at the technologies need-ed in each of these areas as well as best practice methodologies andprocesses for data Governance and Master Data Management.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Attendees will learn how to set up an Enterprise Data Governance pro-gram and to determine what technologies they need for Enterprise DataGovernance, Data Integration and Master Data Management (MDM). Inaddition they will learn when to use certain technologies over others andmethodologies to use for Metadata Management, Data Integration, anddesigning and implementing Data Governance and MDM solutions.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

This seminar is intended for Business and IT Professionals responsiblefor Enterprise Data including Metadata Management, Data Integration,Data Quality, Master Data Management and Enterprise Content Man-agement. It assumes that you have an understanding of basic data Man-agement principles as well as at least a high level of understanding of theconcepts of data migration, data replication, Metadata, Data Warehous-ing, Data Modelling, Data Cleansing etc.

2. Enterprise Metadata Manage-ment

This session looks in detail at theneed for Enterprise Metadata Man-agement as the foundation for anyData Governance project. Metada-ta Management includes the needfor data stewards, data owners, common data definitions, discoveryof existing disparate data defini-tions and data relationships, andthe mapping of disparate defini-tions to a common shared data vo-cabulary.

• What is Enterprise MetadataManagement?

• Component technologies for En-terprise Metadata Management

• Common Metadata - data stan-dardisation using a shared Busi-ness vocabulary

• Shared Business vocabulary vsTaxonomy

• The role of a Business Glossary• Disparate Metadata discovery,

Metadata mapping and Metada-ta integration

premise data

5. An Introduction to MasterData Management

This session introduces MasterData Management and looks atwhy Businesses are serious aboutintroducing it. It also looks at thecomponents of an MDM systemand how to assess what compo-nents you need and the right imple-mentation option for your Business.

• What is Master Data Manage-ment (MDM)?

• Business benefits – Why is MDMneeded?

• Components of a MDM solution

• How does MDM fit into an Enter-prise Service Oriented Architec-ture?

• MDM architecture – Does MDMmean yet another data store?

• MDM examples – CustomerData Integration, Product Infor-mation Management, FinancialData Management

• Assessing your need for an MDMsystem

• Implementation options – Decidingon Build vs Buy

6. Designing A MDM System

This session looks at what is in-volved in designing an MDM sys-tem. It looks at the system scope, identifying candidate Business en-tities, design approaches, identityManagement, Master Data inte-gration and Business process re-design.

• Deciding the scope of an MDMsystem- Master data, Master Metadatavocabulary, Master Data ac-cess services, Master DataBusiness processes
