The Disability Employ-ment Center – DEC for

short – is an innovative solution that aims to further and enhance the employability of persons with disabilities, as well as to increase their capacities for advancement in their professional careers.

the Disability Employment Center represents a bridge between persons with disabilities that want to further their employability and the businesses that are active within the framework of the open labor market. it is exactly because of that, our goal is to make persons with disabilities more active and included in general employment relations, as persons that are at the risk of being excluded from the open labor market. We will accomplish that goal through

increasing their capacities, furthering their education and qualifications, but as well as through development of social services in the communities that will support full and effective integration of persons with disabilities within the open labor market, as well as in society in general.

WHAT DO WE WANT TO ACCOMPLISH?

Toward achieving our goal we:

1. Establish an innovative ser-vice for employment of per-sons with disabilities,

2. strengthen the capacities for employment and career ad-vancement of persons with disabilities,

WHO WE ARE

3. strengthen the capacities of businesses for inclusion of persons with disabilities, as well as furthering their corpo-rate responsibility,

4. raise general awareness about persons with disabilities as equal contributors in work and work processes and on equal basis with other employees.

Through developing capacities for self-employment of persons with disabilities, the Disability Employment Center will contribute to furthering their economic and overall independence, as well as to supporting their self-realization in life. persons with disabilities and their families will obtain business, vocational and marketing knowledge and skills through these trainings.

Although this training is targeted, it is applicative on a variety of business ideas. With that we contribute to opening the door toward dignified employment in an in-clusive labor market to persons with disabilities. Thus, we contribute to diminishing prevailing segregation of persons with disabilities in employment.

Finally, through this training and the success stories that will follow, we will enhance the overall visibility of persons with disabilities in society as professionals in their own lines of work, regardless of disability.

DEVELOPING CAPACITIES FOR SELF-EMPLOYMENT TRAINING

10

In the last few years there have been successful sto-ries regarding self-employment of persons with dis-abilities, mainly supported via the active employment measures of the Macedonian Government and via ac-tivities of UNDP. In coordination with them we iden-tified the need of additional targeted support for these (and other) self-employed persons with disabilities.

That’s why through these trainings DEC offers a targeted approach to the topics and challenges that self-employed persons with disabilities face. Keeping in mind the diversity of businesses started by these per-sons, this training targets characteristics that all busi-nesses have in common – finance and administration.
