ENVIRON Cool Peel® Technology
HISTORY Of Peeling
ENVIRON SKIN CARE
• Dates back to the ancient Egyptians
• Recipe used was fruit acids combined with skin irritants
• Rather deep peel – the clients hid from society for 2 – 3
weeks and expected a youthful appearance
• Modern peeling started about 100 years ago
HISTORY OF PEELING
CHEMICALS USED IN PEELING
Phenol
• Toxic – has lead to deaths
• Deep dermal peel – complete epidermis destroyed
• Melanocytes, which produce melanin pigment granules, are
destroyed
CHEMICALS USED IN PEELING
Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA’s)
• Safe and effective
• Weak Carboxylic Acid
• Found in nature
CHEMICALS USED IN PEELING
Tricloroacetic Acid
• Safe and effective, inactive when dry
• Based on Acetic Acid, man-made chemical
• No known allergic reactions
CHEMICALS USED IN PEELING
Lactic Acid Glycolic Acid
More comfortable, gentle sensation Smaller molecules – penetrates more
rapidly = uncomfortable experience
Inhibits uneven skin tone Support natural desquamation process
Augments natural moisturizing
factors Must be neutralized to stop peel action
Must be neutralized, in higher
concentrations, to stop peel action
Deep peels are uncomfortable and painful
often the result does not justify the traumatizing experience
Deep peels could possibly cause the following:
• Slow healing
• Post inflammatory scarring
• Hyper/hypo pigmentation
• Bacterial infections
• Scarring
DEEP PEELING IS RISKY
SCARRING AFTER DEEP PEELING
GENERAL PEELING Complications
Hyper-pigmentation
• May occur as a result of inflammation
Hypo-pigmentation
• May occur as a result of very deep peels
Allergies
• Allergies to peeling agents are very rare, it is more likely to be
an area of over treatment
GENERAL PEELING COMPLICATIONS - pg F9
Over-treatment
• May occur as a result of deep peels
Aggravated acne type reaction (breakouts)
• May occur due to build-up not adequately removed; more
common with AHA peels
GENERAL PEELING COMPLICATIONS
ENVIRON’S SOLUTION To Peeling
THE ENVIRON SOLUTION
“COOL PEEL® TECHNOLOGY”
• Rather offer milder peels more often than one deep peel
• Deep peels destroy the epidermis
• A series of light peels minimizes the destruction of the
epidermis
pH AND PERCENTAGE
High concentration/percentage does not necessarily make a peel effective:
• A 40% peel at a pH of 6 would not be effective
• A low pH, with a high concentration/percentage acid is destructive
• A low pH, low concentration/percentage is very effective and offers a safer treatment

Importance of PH vs percentage
Importance of PH
1. Scientifically formulated and developed by Dr. Des
2. Safe and effective method of peeling the skin
3. Unique in concept and method of application
4. User friendly application
WHAT MAKES THE COOL PEELING SYSTEM SO SPECIAL?
5. Can be tailored to suit different skin types and photo types
6. Cool and painless with no ‘downtime’
7. Complies with global regulations
8. Effective pH of between 1 and 2.4 in combination with low
acid concentrations
WHAT MAKES THE COOL PEELING SYSTEM SO SPECIAL?
9. Acid in low concentrations instruct Keratinocytes to
produce thicker, healthier and smoother skin
10. The acid does not kill healthy epidermal cells
11. Acid pH, persisting for many minutes, stimulates the
Keratinocytes to release various growth factors
WHAT MAKES THE COOL PEELING SYSTEM SO SPECIAL?
Research And Clinical Studies Have Shown:
With time, the acid pH stimulates the release of
various growth factors
– EGF, bFGF, VEGF, TGF beta-3
ENVIRON’S
Ethos
Vitamin A is the corner stone ingredient in the
Environ Skin Care philosophy and must be
replaced daily for skin appearance to stay
healthy-looking and resilient. Combined with
other essential nutrients like antioxidants and
peptides, the long-term enhancement of skin
appearance becomes clearly visible.
• Peeling works in synergy with our ethos of creating healthy-
looking skin by nourishing the skin with vitamins,
antioxidants and helping protect with sunscreen
• It is essential to prepare the skin with Environ’s Vitamin A
moisturizers for a minimum of three weeks prior to peeling
ENVIRON’S PEELING ETHOS
EFFECTS
Of Peeling
• Skin becomes dryer and feels tighter for a few days
• Light peels – effect barely perceptible
• Heavy peels – noticeable effect and peeling (flaking) for a number of
days
• Scientific research has shown that healthy cells survive and damaged cells
are removed
• Scientific research has shown that growth factors are stimulated and
collagen formation is promoted
EFFECTS OF PEELING
• A course of peels help to improve the appearance and texture
of the skin relating to the visible signs of aging
• A course of peels help to improve the appearance of texture
and the look of problematic skin
• Skin appears more refined and radiant with an overall
improved appearance

THE ENVIRON Cool Peel System
PRODUCTS REQUIRED For Peel Treatments
LACM and ACM TCA
Cream peels which contain a low concentration
of acid, but because the product is left on the
skin for a longer time, it gives the same effects
as a high con- centration of acid.
LACM contains Lactic Acid
ACM contains TCA
The treatment can be adapted to various types
of skin because the concentration of the
preparation and the length of exposure time can
be varied. The exfoliation is mild and treatments
are designed to be used re- peatedly without
damaging the skin.
The TCA-Pamgel Peels are a thick
low concentration acid gel. The
concentration of acid is even lower
than the cream peels because more
acid is available to the skin in a gel.
Less time is required for faster
action. The evaporation of water in
the gel cools the skin while acid is
activated.

NEUTRALISING CLEANSER
PEEL RANGE
DESCRIPTION: A neutralizing cleanser, formulated to
deactivate peeling acids and stop the peeling action on
the skin immediately
APPLICATION:
1. Apply in a thick layer and massage gently with
the fingertips/brush for 5 minutes, remove with a
compress (pertains to LACM only)
2. Apply directly to AREAS OF FROSTING
3. Apply to the lips before peeling if the client
suffers from fever blisters
INCREASING THE DEPTH Of Peeling
INCREASED DEPTH OF PEEL
Depth of the peel is dependent on certain factors:
1. How well the skin was degreased before the peel
2. The anatomic area treated
3. The condition and the level of superficial damage of the skin
before the peel
4. Skin is treated more effectively if prepared with Environ vitamin
A moisturizers
INCREASED DEPTH OF
TCA PAMGEL Peels
1. More layers = more concentrated peel
2. 1 – 3 layers gives a milder peeling effect
3. 4 – 6 layers gives an advanced peeling effect
INCREASED DEPTH OF
ACM Peels
1. Longer time = massage and/or steaming
2. 10 minutes = milder peeling effect
3. 20 minutes = advanced peeling effect
INCREASED DEPTH OF
LACM Peels
1. Longer time = massage, layering and/or steaming
2. 10 minutes = milder peeling effect
3. 20 minutes = more advanced peeling effect
4. 1 layer = milder peeling effect
5. 2 layers = moderate peeling effect
6. 3 layers = more advanced peeling effect
WHY DO WE CALL IT THE COOL PEEL TECHNOLOGY?
APPLY A LAYER OF SELECTED GEL PEEL
Cooling effect is felt as water in the gel evaporates, therefore acid becomes
concentrated
Once acid becomes concentrated it starts to penetrate
APPLY A SECOND LAYER OF GEL
APPLY A THIRD LAYER OF GEL
Greater concentration of acid develops as water evaporates
Client may experience some stinging, but the skin still feels cool and comfortable as
the acid penetrates
Proteins coagulate which may cause mild burning sensation
COSMETIC PEEL (ONLY DONE ON INDIVIDUAL PIMPLES)
Neutralize all residual acid with a neutralizing product
layering effect - pg F22
UNEVEN SKIN TONE And Peeling
WE HAVE TO AVOID MAKING PIGMENTATION PROBLEMS WORSE BY MEANS OF PEELING
UNEVEN SKIN TONE
• Environ does not recommend uncontrolled deep peeling as the
only treatment for uneven skin tone
• A combination of mild peeling, Environ® professional treatments
and correct home product use is advised for the best treatment of
aging and sun damaged skin conditions
• Lightening of uneven skin tone may occur, but darkening
occurs if the peeling is too aggressive
• Peeling makes the skin more susceptible to the penetration
of UV light, stimulating more melanin production, or worse
Melanocyte DNA damage
• In darker photo types melanin can remain in the dead cells
even up to the horny layer
UNEVEN SKIN TONE
AFTER CARE Advice
EFFECT AVOID MANAGE

Micro-exfoliate with
Hydrating Clay Masque as
necessary
WHEN IS IT SAFE TO RE-PEEL?
• Only peel again after the skin has settled down from the previous peel;
the skin should not be red or sensitive and no flaking should be present
• Problematic skin – superficial Stratum Corneum peels may be repeated
daily, left on for no longer than 10 – 20 minutes
• Sun damaged skin – epidermal peels may be repeated every 2 – 6
weeks
PEELING Procedures

2. Preparation phase
3. Treatment phase
4. Product recommendation
PEEL STEPS
• During the first consultation process it is important to establish the
recommended treatment plan according to the skin conditions
• Clients should always be informed as to what to expect from the
treatment, as well as home care may be recommended
• Use the recommended Environ consultation card to accurately record
treatments performed as well as the progress made
• In order for Environ to assist and monitor future treatments or in the case
of a reaction it is important to ensure that the client card is always kept up
to date
