Anapprenticeshipisawayforallindividualsaged16+whoareinemployment,togainnewskillsandqualificationswhileworking.Hiringapprenticeshelpsbusinessestogrowtheirowntalentbydevelopingamotivated,skilledandqualifiedworkforce.

Apprenticeshipscanbeutilisedtotrainnewandexistingemployees.Fundingmaybeavailabletosupportthis.

Apprenticeshipsareavailableinawiderangeofindustrysectorswithemployersfromlargenationalcompaniestosmallerlocalcompanies.Theyareavailableatintermediate,advanced,higheranddegreelevel,coveringmorethan170industriesand1,500jobroles,includingdigitalmedia,businessimprovementtechniques,nursing,cybersecurity,engineering,finance,costumedesign–nomatterwhattheneedsofyourbusinessorhownichetheservicesandproductsarethatyouoffer,therewillmostlikelybeanapprenticeshiptosuityourbusiness.

ApprenticeshipsaredesignedbythesectorskillsCouncilsandbusinessrepresentativesfromtherelevantindustrysector.Becausetheygenuinelyunderstandyourbusiness,thetrainingwillberelevantforyourindustry.

Dependingonthesectorandjobrole,anapprenticeshipcantakeanythingbetweenoneandfiveyearstocomplete.

Mostofthetrainingison-the-jobatanemployer’spremises,workingwithamentortolearnjobspecificskillsintheworkplace.Off-the-jobtrainingisprovidedbySkills4Stemandmaybedeliveredthroughdayrelease,blockrelease,on-line/remotelearningorablendofdifferentmethods.

AnyonewhoisundertakinganApprenticeshipcanexpectadutyofcarefromSkills4stemasthetrainingprovider.WealsohavetoensurethatthesafetyofourApprenticesduringtrainingandintheworkplaceismanagedeffectively.

Discrimination

Discriminationbyassociationistheunfairtreatmentofanindividualforbeingassociatedwithanotherindividualwhopossessesacertainprotectedcharacteristic. VictimisationVictimisationisthemistreatmentofanindividualbecausetheyhavemadeacomplaintaboutbeingdiscriminatedorharassed,theyintendtomakeacomplaintaboutbeingdiscriminatedorharassed,ortheyhave/intendtoactasawitnessorgiveevidencetosupportadiscriminationorharassmentclaimmadebyorfor/onbehalfofanotherindividual.

Examplesofvictimisationare;beingignoredbyfellowmembersofstaff,beingcriticisedunfairlyandonacontinuousbasisbyothermembersofstaff,beingrefusedpromotionortimeoffwithoutgoodreasonetc.

Itisimportanttounderstandthatbothharassmentandvictimisationarebothformsofbullyingandshouldnotbetoleratedintheworkplace.IfthishappensinyourworkplacepleasefollowtheEmployer’scomplaintsprocedureaseverycompany’swayofresolvingissuesmayalterslightly.Ifitcannotberesolvedbyyouremployerpleasespeaktousaboutsupportingyoutoresolvethematter.

Youareresponsibleforyourownactionswhichmeansthatyoushouldtreatothersasyouwanttobetreated;fairlyandwithrespect.Ifyoususpectorknowofanyincidentsinvolvingbullying,victimisationorharassmentyoumustreportit,otherwiseitwillcontinue.Pleasenotethatthiscanbedoneinconfidenceandthereforeyoureservetherighttobeanonymous!

Preventisagovernmentstrategyaboutsafeguardingpeopleandcommunitiesfromthethreatofalltypesofextremismandradicalisation,includingterrorism.ItisalsoaboutthepromotionofBritishvalues.

Extremismandradicalisationmightincludeviolentreligiousgroups,theextremerightwingandothercauses.Attheheartofpreventissafeguardingchildrenandadultsandprovidingearlyinterventiontoprotectanddivertpeopleawayfrombeingdrawnintoterroristactivity.

Britishvaluesinclude:

• Democracy.• Individuallibertyandmutualrespect.• TheruleofLaw.• Toleranceofdifferencefaithsandbeliefs.

• Exploringotherculturesandreligionsandpromotingdiversity.• Challengingprejudicesandracistcomments.• Developingcriticalthinkingskillsandastrong,positiveself-identity.• Promotingspiritual,moral,socialandculturaldevelopment.• ActivepromotionofBritishvalues.

WewillprovideapprenticeswithinformationsotheyunderstandhowtoprotectthemselvesfromextremistviewsthatgoagainstBritishvaluesthattheymayencounter,noworlaterintheirlives.

Weusearangeofmethodstoprotectapprenticesfromtheriskofradicalisation,suchasfiltersonequipmentthataccesstheinternet,tomakesuretheycan’taccessextremistandterroristmaterial;andbyvettingvisitorswhocomeintoourtrainingcentrestodeliversessions.AllourstaffaresubjecttoDBS(DisclosureandBarringService)checks.

DataProtectionTheDataProtectionAct1998isregardingpersonalinformationaboutanindividual.Thiscanincludecustomers,clients,Employeesetc.Personalinformationcanincludenames,addresses,contactnumbers,age,informationaboutyouroccupationetc.Thisactgivesyoutherighttoknowwhatpersonalinformationaboutyouisbeingkeptandalsohelpstoprotectyourinterests.

TherehavebeenseveralActsputinplacetopreventcasesofabuseandsignificantharm.StatutoryguidancesuchasKeepingchildrensafeineducation(April2014)isusedbySkills4stemtoensureweareofferingagoodlevelofsupport.

Asatrainingproviderandacompanywhowanttoexceedinhelpingyoungpeople,wehaveastatutoryandmoralobligationtoensurethatthecompanysafeguardsagainstanyformsofabuseorharmwhetherittakesplaceintheworkplaceorathome.Throughoutyourtimewithusweaimtoensurethatthewelfareofyouasyoungadultsisapriority.Ifanallegation,disclosureorsuspicionofabusearises,weasatrainingproviderhavealegalobligationtoreportthesematterstotheauthorityand/ortheappropriateservices.Thereasonforthisisthatthewelfareofanindividualshouldalwayscomebeforeconfidentiality.

ThemainlegislationwhichcovershealthandsafetyistheHealthandSafetyatWorkAct1974.Withinthislegislationisstatesthatwemust,asemployersand/oremployees,takeoncertainresponsibilities:

• Employersmustsafeguardyouasfarasreasonablypossible,thisdoesnotjustapplytoApprentices.Thisalsoappliestothehealth,safetyandwelfareofallemployees.

• Employeeshaveadutytoactwithreasonablecaretoavoidcausingharmtothemselvesorotherswhilecarryingouttheirworkduties.

Youwillnormallyhavecollectedevidenceinafolder/fileoronlinewhichisyour‘portfolio’.Theportfolioshouldhaveanindexallowingeasyaccesstothecontents.Youmayrequireaseparatefilefor‘supplementary’information,suchashandouts,guidesorhandbooks.Thistypeofinformationshouldnotbeplacedintheportfolio.Theportfolioshouldbesafeguardedagainstdamageorloss,asreplacementofevidenceisverytimeconsumingandinsomecases,impossible.

WitnessTestimony

Youmayrequirewitnessestoworkyouhavecarriedoutinordertoconfirmthatyouhaveproducedtheevidencealone/inamannerthatisdeemedcompetent,withinthequalificationrequirements.Ashortstatementwithasignatureisusuallysufficient.Thetrainingmentor/assessorwillthenjudgetheevidencetoconfirmthestandardscovered.Copiesofstaffappraisalsorreportsshouldbekept,asthesewillassistinassessingprogress.
