Basic Facts about EPCOT

• EPCOT is an acronym of Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. Epcot was designed as a Utopian city of the future planned by Walt Disney, often interchanging "city" and "community."

• Epcot is dedicated to the celebration of human achievement, namely technological innovation and international culture.

• It opened on October 1, 1982, and spans 300 acres (120 ha), more than twice the size of the Magic Kingdom park. In 2011, the park hosted approximately 10.83 million guests, making it the third most visited theme park in the United States, and sixth most visited theme park in the world.

The park is divided in two sections Future World (park entrance) and

World Show Case (countries)

• Future World

• Future World consists of a variety of pavilions that explore innovative aspects and applications of technology.

• World Show Case

• Epcot's World Showcase is centered around a reflective lagoon. It contains pavilions representing eleven countries.

FUTURE WORLD WORLD SHOW CASE

Beginning Schedule • The expected arriving time in the park is 9:00

am. This is the time the park opens the doors to the public.

• Step 1: We are going to start at the “Transportation Center”

• Step 2: Then we are going to take the monorail to Magic Kingdom for a quick view (15-20 min

ride) • Step 3: Afterwards we have to change

monorails and go to EPCOT .

Here is a picture of what the Monorail Epcot looks like and how it

goes across the park.

In the park schedule

• We should be arriving to the Epcot Theme Park between 9:20-9:30 am.

• The Epcot main entrance will brings us into Future World.

• We will be meeting TWO times as a whole group during the day, both times will be in FUTURE WORLD ( 12:30 for lunch & 8:30 at the end of the day).

Each student will received ONE meal coupon each.

Meal Coupon Details

• The meal coupon you will received at 12:30 includes a beverage, an entrée, side dish and dessert.

• If you wish to get anything else you will have to purchase it yourself.

The Sunshine Season food court is located in the front park of the park in

FUTURE WORLD.

2nd Mandatory Group Meeting

• We will meet again towards the end of the day to watch the fireworks before we get on the bus. The nighttime show is called, “Illuminations.”

• Everybody should be at the SHOW CASE PLAZA at 8:30 PM.

What you need to do while you are in

Epcot?

They are 2 assignments that all students must do in World Show Case (countries).

1st Assignment in World Show Case Students must visit at least five countries (not including Mexico) in order to complete the first assignment. In each country students must:

• 1.Learn to say Hello, Goodbye & Thank you in the language of

each country. •

2.Which Candy bar best represents each country? •

3.Have a picture taken of you wearing a hat from each country (can be done in groups of two).

• 4.What is the hat called in the native language?

• 6.What is the dominate religion of each country?

2nd Assignment in World Show Case

• The second assignment concentrates in the Mexican pavilion where students must complete specific assignments (next slide).

• In addition, students must choose another country from the list and complete the assigned assignment The countries are:

• Italy • Japan

• Morocco • France

• Students will receive extra credit if they visit and do all activities for the 5 countries.

Mexico 1. What is the pyramid modeled after? 2. Whatʼs the name of the animal wood carving

art? 3. What is “Día de los Muertos”? (Day of the Dead)

Very interesting, spark up a conversation with a cast member about the details of this holiday, why it’s celebrated, what it represents, the date, etc.

4. Say hello and introduce yourself in Spanish to a native speaker. Ask them where they are from and what do they like about Mexico. 5. Find the mural at the end of Grand Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros, What Mexican city are the characters closest to?

Italy • 1. What is the structure building and tower modeled

after? •

2. Learn about the masks. Where are they made, what do they represent, what are they used for, is there a celebration around them?

• 3. There are three wood burning ovens in Via Napoli, what are the names of the three active volcanoes that these represent?

• 4. Learn five words in Italian.

Japan

1. Find out the time of the Taiko (what does this mean?)

2. What is the red structure in the water called?

3. Find Kakigōri and sample a flavor.

Morocco

• 1. What language do they speak here?

• 2. What continent is Morocco on? •

3. Name three foods specific to Morocco. Try one if you can!

• 4. What Hollywood Studio’s attraction is visible from this pavilion and is designed to blend in?

France

• 1. The waterway running next to the France Pavilion represents the Seine as it flows through what city?

• 2. Locate the spitting Gargoyle. What does the Spitting Gargoyle guard in France?

• 3. Find three cast members from three different cities and have them locate their hometown for you on a map and write down the names of the cities.

• Read in the next two slides about the attractions in EPCOT. Find 5 attractions you would like to do.

FUTURE WORLD ATTRACITONS LIST • Spaceship Earth (Sponsored by Siemens AG) is a ride through an eighteen-story-tall geodesic sphere, located at the front

entrance of Epcot. The ride tells the history of communication, with a focus on the development of cultures and the future of technologies. – Project Tomorrow: Inventing the Wonders of the Future is an interactive post show following Spaceship Earth

showcasing many "virtual reality" games. • Innoventions, located in two pavilions (Innoventions East and Innoventions West), houses hands-on exhibitions from

various science-and-technology oriented companies. • Universe of Energy: Ellen's Energy Adventure is a show about energy and how people generate and harvest it. The show is

named for its star, Ellen DeGeneres. • Mission: SPACE (Sponsored by Hewlett-Packard) is a centrifuge-based ride that simulates the training required to be a

member of the space program. • Test Track (Sponsored by Chevrolet) is a high-speed ride that allows guest to design their own concept vehicles then test

them on the "Sim Track" as they ride along in a "Sim-Car" • Imagination! is a pavilion that contains attractions that highlight imagination.

– Journey into Imagination with Figment is a ride that encourages guests to use their senses and their imagination. – ImageWorks is an interactive post show following Journey into Imagination. – Captain EO is a 3-D show starring Michael Jackson as a commander of a lovable crew of misfits on a special mission in

this 17 minute space fantasy adventure. • The Land is a pavilion that contains attractions that detail how we interact with our natural environment.

– Living with the Land takes visitors on a boat tour through a working greenhouse. – Soarin' is a hang glider simulator that "flies" over various areas of California. – Circle of Life: An Environmental Fable is a movie that shows symbiosis.

• The Seas with Nemo & Friends is one of the largest aquariums in the world. The pavilion contains two attractions: – The Seas with Nemo & Friends, a ride chronicling Nemo's epic journey, featuring projection technology that makes it

appear as though Nemo, Dory, and Marlin are swimming with the live fishes. – Turtle Talk with Crush, an interactive show starring Crush, the Sea Turtle, from Disney/Pixar's film Finding Nemo.
