IMPORTANT DECISIONS

1. The candidates who have passed Higher Secondary/Intermediate examinations of other

Universities/Boards with English carrying 50 marks only may be allowed provisional

admission subject to the condition that they qualify in English of 10 + 2 System of

Education as the case may be at Punjab School Education Board, Mohali either in the

supplementary examination or the next annual examination.

Note :- This decision shall also be applicable to the Higher Secondary/Intermediate

examinations of other Boards/Universities which are already recognised as

equivalent to the corresponding examination of this University, where English

now carries only 50 marks (Academic Council, dated 21.10.74).

2. The graduates of colleges of Basic Sciences and Humanities under Agricultural

Universities are eligible for admission to Post-graduate courses in Basic Sciences and

Humanities at this University, provided they fulfill other prescribed requirements

(Academic Council, dated 27.3.76).

3. The candidates as have passed B.Com. Part-I examination from other Universities/Boards

as has been recognised as equivalent to the B.Com. Part I examination of this University

are allowed admission to the admissible courses (Academic Council dated 6.9.1976).

4. That wherever M.A./M.Sc. (Geography/Economics/Sociology) examinations of any

university appears to have been recognised for purpose of admission to M.C.R.P. course

only in the Equivalency Book be recognised for purposes of admission to all the next

higher admissible courses in this University. (Academic Council, dated 6.5.1979).

5. That correspondence courses conducted by other Universities/Boards/Bodies be

recognised as equivalent to the corresponding (regular) examinations of this University

provided that regular examinations of those Universities/Boards/Bodies already stand

recognised as equivalent to the corresponding examinations of this University (Academic

Council, dated 16.1.90).

6. That examinations conducted by other Boards/Bodies (Indian and Foreign) which are

recognisable by Punjab School Education Board, Mohali as equivalent to their

corresponding examinations, be adopted if these have been accorded the requisite

recognition by the Punjab School Education Board, Mohali. (Academic Council, dated

16.1.1990).

7. That in future all the Medical qualifications of other Universities already recognised by the

Medical Council of India, New Delhi be automatically recognised without having to

follow the normal procedure. (Academic Council, dated 16.1.1990).

8. That the name of the B.T. examination wherever it appears in the Equivalency Booklet be

deleted and the name of the B.Ed. Examination being conducted by this University be

inserted in the place of B.T. (Academic Council, dated 16.1.1990).

9. That B.A. degree awarded by Panjab University, Chandigarh, under ordinance 2.2 (i.e.

passing of B.A. Part-II and III examinations directly after passing Gyani/Prabhakar

examination after Matric/Higher Secondary +2 examination and without passing B.A.

Part-I examination from the admissions of 1989 be NOT recognised as equivalent to the

B.A. degree of this University. (Syndicate meeting, dated 15.2.1991).

10. That B.A./B.Sc./B.Com./B.Sc. (Home Sci.) Parts-I, II and III examinations of other

recognised Universities conducted under new scheme of studies i.e. 10+2+3 be recognised

as equivalent to the corresponding examinations of this University. (Academic Council,

dated 16.4.1991).

11. That all the Dental Qualifications which have been approved by the Dental Council of

India, New Delhi be deemed automatically recognised as equivalent to the corresponding

examinations/degrees of this University. (Academic Council, dated 16.4.1991).

12. That B.A. degree of Punjabi University, Patiala (awarded after two years duration after

passing Gyani/Prabhakar Examination after Matric/Higher Secondary examination) be

NOT recognised as equivalent to B.A. Degree of this University (Academic Council,

dated 16.4.1991).

13. That Senior School Certificate Examination (Open School) conducted by the Central

Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi be recognised for the purpose of admission to

B.A. Part-I examination of this University subject to the condition that there should be a

gap of two years between Matriculation and Senior School Certificate Examination (Open

School) conducted by C.B.S.E., New Delhi. This will take effect from the admissions of

April, 1990 and onward. (Academic Council, dated 16.4.1991).

14. That in case the pass degree (B.A./B.Sc./B.Com. etc.) of a University is recognised as

equivalent to the corresponding degree of this University. Hons. Degree/New Scheme in

such courses of all such Universities will also be deemed automatically recognised as

equivalent to the corresponding pass degree of this University. (Academic Council, dated

16.4.1991).

15. That all examinations of Statutory Universities/Institution Bodies/Boards (Indian) upto

Bachelor's degree in the Faculties of Arts and Social Sciences, Agriculture & Forestry,

Engg. & Technology, Sciences, Languages, Education, Economics & Business, Music &

Fine Arts, Applied Sciences, Physical Education, Life Sciences, Laws, Humanities &

Religious Studies, Sports Medicine & Physiotherapy and Planning & Architecture etc.

except distance education mode be considered equivalent to the corresponding

examinations of this University in view of the following recommendations of the

Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi provided the entrance qualification,

duration of the course and nomenclature of examination passed are identical. This will take

effect from the admissions of April, 1990 and onward :-

"That the examinations of one University should be recognised by another on

reciprocal basis provided that the entrance qualification, duration of the course and

general standard of attainment are similar to those prescribed by the recognising

University."

As a consequence, it follows :

(i) That the difference, if any, in the combination of subjects prescribed by different

Universities will not be taken into account (In some Universities only two elective

subjects are prescribed rather than three.) while deciding the eligibility of a candidate.

However the pass percentage and the general standard of attainment/award of division

must correspond with the standard laid down by the Guru Nanak Dev University.

In view of the above decision, the Committee also recommended that all the examinations upto

Master’s degree (two years duration), under regular mode of the various Universities/

Institutions created under the Act of States and Centre funded by the UGC and State Govt.

except private universities/institutions, distance mode of education & Lateral Entry be

considered (without having to follow the normal procedure for recognition of examinations) as

equivalent to corresponding examinations of the Guru Nanak Dev University provided that the

entrance qualification (i.e. passed under 10+2+3 scheme of education), duration of the course

and nomenclature of these examinations as per specified list of the University Grants

18. The Committee considered the recognition of all examinations upto Master Degree, under

regular mode of the universities/ institutions created under the Act of States and Centre

except private universities/institutions (Indian) and mode of Distance Education.

After some discussion, it was noticed that the Important Decision has already been

published by the university (Sr.No.15) in the Equivalency Book of all examinations of

Statutory Universities/Institutions Bodies/Boards (Indian) upto Bachelor’s degree except

Lateral Entry & distance education in the Faculties of Arts and Social Sciences,

Agriculture & Forestry, Engg. & Technology, Sciences, Languages, Education, Economics

& Business, Music & Fine Arts, Applied Sciences, Physical Education, Life Sciences,

Laws, Humanities & Religious Studies, Sports Medicine & Physiotherapy and Planning &

Architecture etc. be considered as equivalent to the corresponding examinations of this
