The Faculty, the largest in Italy, was also the first to be founded in the Country in 1921. It has inherited the tradition of the Higher School of Architecture, based on the unified teaching of building construction, restoration, and urban planning. It has a diverse and rich faculty, with relevant personalities in several scientific fields. The large student bodycontributes to a vibrant environment, with avast number of cultural activities, such as in no other Italian architecture school.

The Faculty has decided to continue the traditional 5-year architecture degree system, in parallel with the Bachelor-Master degree progression, offering a total of seven degree programmes:

1) A single-cycle, 5-year MSc programme in Architecture, without intermediate degree;
2) A 3-year BSc programme leading to an intermediate degree, intended to continue with one of the two 2-year MSc programmes, either in Architecture/Restoration or in Landscape Architecture;
3) A 3-year BSc programme intended to continue with a 2-year MSc in the area of Industrial Design and Visual/Multimedia Communication;
4) A 3-year BSc degree in Project Management.

This new figure, complementary to that of the senior architect, armed witha specialist degree, is strategic in these very sectors. The profile of the studies - that foreseean integration of planning, humanistic and technical-scientific disciplines - will allow thecreation of this professional figure with a strong multipurpose leaning, in such a way as toallow him/her to intervene autonomously, while understanding the problems of planning andits physical, economic and social impact, in agreement with other professional figures, in the

Students can choose within the course either one of two curricula, whichdifferentiate during the third year: "Architecture", intended to continue with the MSc inArchitecture/Restoration, and "Landscape“, intended to continue with the MSc in LandscapeArchitecture.

This course answers a strong demand from the market for a professional figure with aricher technical and managerial background, able to tackle the increasing complexity of theadministrative, technical and economical aspects of the construction process.

The activities of the three years (which compoundscientific and technical aspects with arts history, design, drafting, communication, economicsand social sciences) are organically conceived in order to train a professional figure able to

The architect seeking an education is, simultaneously, the inheritor of the ancient mission ofthe planner, the interpreter of ways of living and building as well as being the up-to-dateoperator who is aware of theresponsibilities that accompany planning today, as an act of transformation that impacts onthe contemporary landscape and that is severely tested by the speed and extent of the

the contemporary landscape and that is severely tested by the speed and extent of thephenomena of change. The various disciplines related to the training (architecture, technology,structures, restoration and territory) are today called upon to bring their contents up to fate inthe face of the new challenges of the modern world, in particular, the environmental andecological emergency and the crisis in local cultures and of the links between society andplaces, paying attention to the themes of energy, ecological sustainability and semioticimportance. The five-year course allows the widest maturing, that is both balanced andprogressive, with a dialectic comparison of the different aims in the construction of physicalspace, in different measurements and ways according to the scale and contexts.

Suchprerogatives will be accompanied and backed up by a profound knowledge of the historical-critical, compositional and morphological, constructive, technical, legal, economic-managerial and functional implications of these interventions. The task of these graduates willbe to draw up plans and co-ordinate specialists and operators in the field of contemporaryplanning and in those of architectural restoration, building recovery, adaptation and caring forthe environment, and, more generally, in the field of intervening on the pre-existent in a waythat is historically and technically informed.

The course provides the necessary background in planning, design and managementof the transformation processes of landscape, in its natural and man-made components,to meet both human and natural needs. The course is conceived around the EFLAreccomendations and covers: history and theories of landscape, ecology and the use ofnatural elements in design,technological, energetic and bio-climatic issues, the relationshipbetween humans and the environment, the care and restoration of historical landscape, thenormative and managerial aspects of landscape planning.
