ESTA Plugfest Announces RDMnet Prototypes!The organizers of the ESTA Plugfest are pleased to announce that RDMnet prototypes constructed to the most current draft of the E1.33, Transport of ANSI E1.20 (RDM) in an E1.31 environment standard will be available for Plugfest participants.
Wayne Howell of Artistic License and Sam Kearney of Electronic Theatre Controls (ETC) are both providing RDMnet prototypes for attendee use and testing during the July Plugfest. Both Wayne and Sam noted that “this is an excellent opportunity for early adopters to test manufacturer interoperability ahead of the publication of the final RDMnet standard.”

The Artistic License prototype will provide a version of their new dataLynx II gateway which has per port selection of sACN, RDMnet, Art-Net and RDM over Art-Net.
The ETC RDMnet prototype will be in the form of:
RDMnet Controller: GUI application for Microsoft Windows. RDMnet Broker: Console/daemon application for Microsoft Windows. RDMnet Device: Console/daemon application for Microsoft Windows, supporting a limited set of RDM
parameters. RDMnet Gateway: Console/daemon application for Microsoft Windows which will use ETC USB/DMX
hardware (Gadget II) to communicate with RDM fixtures.
The ESTA Control Protocols Plugfest, the event where manufacturers and developers test their lighting products for network interoperability, is scheduled to take place from July 20 to July 23 at the D/FW Marriott Solana in Westlake, Texas. Both ESTA and non-ESTA members are welcome to attend the 16th version of this event.
The scheduled hours are 9:00am-11:00pm Friday thru Monday. Members of the E1.11 (DMX512), E1.20 (RDM), E1.31 (sACN), and E1.33 (RDMnet) task groups who authored the standards will available to answer questions and help explain our protocols.

Members Needed for UL STP 1640Underwriters Laboratories’s Standards Technical Panel for Portable Power-Distribution Equipment and Devices, STP 1640, needs more members in particular interest categories. UL tries to have STPs in which no interest category makes up more than one-third of the overall voting membership. Currently, Producers make up 35 percent of STP 1640, which is too large a portion. Voters are needed in other interest categories to help balance the voting body. Specifically, UL is seeking representatives from the following interest categories to serve on STP 1640: AHJ/Regulator: Those involved in the regulation or enforcement of the requirements of codes and standards at a regional (e.g. state or province) and/or local level. The authority having jurisdiction/regulator may be a regional or local department or individual such as a fire chief; fire marshal; chief of a fire prevention bureau, state department of insurance official, labor department, or health department; building official; electrical inspector; or others having statutory authority. Consumer: Consumer organizations, consumer departments at universities, home economic departments at universities, professional consumers, and individuals who use the product or service as part of their livelihood and are not eligible for STP membership under another interest category. General Interest: Consultants, members of academia, scientists, special experts, representatives of professional societies, representatives of trade associations, representatives of non-governmental organizations, representatives of companies that only private-brand label products (made by another manufacturer) covered by STP 1640, and other individuals, etc. that are not covered by the other interest categories. Supply Chain: Component producers for an STP responsible for standards covering end-products or end-product producers for an STP responsible for standards covering components; installers, distributors, and retailers. Manufacturers who have no manufacturing facilities for the products covered by UL 1640, but solely use contract manufacturers to make the products are considered part of the Supply Chain interest category. Wholesale or retail purchase-resellers for products made by other companies are also considered as part of the Supply Chain interest category.

2017 International Roadmap for Devices and Systems ReleasedThe 2017 edition of the International Roadmap for Devices and Systems (IRDS) has been published. As the title suggests, it lays out a roadmap for the future of electronic devices and systems, projecting 15 years into the future the technological challenges and opportunites for the electronics industry. BS ISO 7010 Graphical symbols -- Safety colours and safety signs -- Registered safety signsScope: This International Standard prescribes safety signs for the purposes of accident prevention, fire protection, health hazard information and emergency evacuation.The shape and colour of each safety sign are according to ISO 3864-1 and the design of the graphical symbols is according to ISO 3864-3.This International Standard is applicable to all locations where safety issues related to people need to be addressed. New project number: 14900225, DIN 56927 Entertainment technology – Safety-rope (safety cable) to secure objects up to 60 kg self weight - Measures, requirements and testingThis document applies to safety-ropes (safety-cables) used as protection against falling of movable objects within meaning of BGV C1 C1/GUV-V. The safety-rope is also known as "second suspension" according to DIN VDE 0711-217 (VDE 0711-217). The maximum potential drop distance may be 0.2 m. The safety-rope is used in events and production, such as theaters, multipurpose halls, movie theaters, schools, music halls, cabarets, bars and nightclubs, in film, radio and television.
