OUR MAIN CAMPUSES

Whether it is the Mediterranean coastline, the Swiss Alps or a modern Bavarian metropolis, EU not only provides a top-notch business education, but also the experience of living in four distinct and equally enriching environments. Outside of class, students have the option to explore the diversity of Barcelona, Geneva, Montreux and Munich as they please. Some of them employ their time learning new languages, meeting a variety of people and exposing themselves to cultural- and business-oriented opportunities.

At EU, we do what we can to ensure that students are aware of the latest events and outdoor activities in each city. On our social media pages, there are tips on the best restaurants, exhibitions and events. Through industrial visits, students also have the opportu-nity to see local businesses and meet the owners and executives who are keen on helping them find job and internship opportuni-ties within their organizations.

It is important to remember that students have the option to transfer from one campus to another after any completed semester, as all their credits from one campus are counted equally at the others. The only real challenge is deciding where you want to begin.

ACCOMMODATION IN BARCELONA

STUDENT RESIDENCESEuropean University recommends the following residences in Barcelona:Residencia Onix Barcelona ResidenciasResidencia Melon DistrictResidencia SarriàResidencia Universitaria SantsBarcelona Resident

Each of these residences have English-speaking staff. Please contact them directly in order to make a reservation.

HOUSING SEARCH WEBSITESThere are a number of websites which offer affordable living options. Some of the most popular in Barcelona are:idealista.comhomestaybcn.com bcn.es/ciajoh-barcelona.comlocolocations.com barnastudentsplace.combarcelonaroom.com

REAL ESTATE AGENCIESThere are several real estate agencies based in Barcelona:altiro2000.com barcelona-allotjament.comapartmentbarcelona.comhabitatgejove.comaspasios.com

RENTThe first month’s rent is paid in addition to a one- or two-month deposit and there may be a commission to the agency. Rent is generally due by the first of every month.

Most apartments in Barcelona are rented through an agency (inmobiliaria), but it is better to rent directly from the owner as this will save hundreds of euros in agency fees.

Usually, both agencies and owners require the first month’s rent plus a deposit of a month’s rent in advance. Most agencies also charge an additional month’s rent as their fee. Additional deposits may be required, but more than three months’ rent is unusual.

When looking for an apartment, it is important to clearly understand the terms and conditions of the rental agreement. If students do not speak Spanish, then it is best to have a native speaker accompany them. It is also very important not to sign anything until the conditions of the lease are understood by both the landlord and the student.

HOUSING THROUGH EUWith over 30 years of experience, EU has created good contacts with real estate agencies as well as owners.

The administration staff is always available to provide information about the different types of housing. We try to find the best options for students, according to their budgets, so that they feel comfortable from their first day.

EU cooperates with private dorms built in 2011. They offer great accommodation, near the Obersendling station (U3). The cost covers heat, water, electricity and internet-flat rate.

The rooms are fully furnished (except for kitchenware, mattress, linens, pillows, chairs and any additional equipment).–The kitchen is equipped with a stove, fridge and an oven.–Commission should be paid in advance.

PLATFORM FOR ACCOMMODATION SEARCHEuropean University recently joined www.flat-club.com. As a benefit of this relationship, students can join the website for free and find exclusive accommoda-tion, up to 80% cheaper than hotels.

ACCOMMODATION IN GENEVA

HOUSING THROUGH EU The university has many affiliations and offers a variety of housing options including: student residences, shared rooms, and both furnished and unfurnished flats. Students should fill out the Student Housing Application Form and send it to [email protected]

HOUSING INDEPENDENTLY Because demand for apartments is so high, students can expect to spend around CHF 1,500 (€1,300) per month for a basic studio apartment.

Those applying for housing may be asked to provide the following:

Application –Proof of financial solvency (can be demonstrated in various ways)1. Letter from your personal bank2. Three recent pay slips3. Letter or payslips from a parent or other party accepting financial responsibility for students while in Geneva–Interview with leasing agency

If students decide to find housing independently they should also be wary of scams and fraudulent adver-tisements. Red flags that indicate a potential scam include:

Individual is away on vacation or not living in the area–Individual asks student to wire money to their account before a visit so they know the student is a serious candidate

RENTAL PROCESSOnce accepted for housing/moving in, students should anticipate having to pay a deposit equivalent to three month’s rent.

This is generally set up as a dual savings account between the student and the lease provider; however, the leasing agency will place a hold on the account so the student is unable to access the funds. When the lease is terminated and the apartment has passed a final inspection, the hold is released and the student will be able to retrieve the deposit.

Rent:The first month’s rent is paid in addition to the three month deposit. Rent is gener-ally due by the first of every month.

Initial inspection: The regie (the real estate agency manag-ing the apartment) generally requires an initial inspection to note any existing damage or problems with the apartment.

It is important to point out any issues with the apartment because anything unmarked will be considered ‘new’ dam-age in the final inspection.

Upon terminating a lease, ‘new’ dam-age will be repaired and any expenses incurred by the leasing agency will be deducted from the three-month deposit.

For more info, please turn to the Living Expenses section on page 27.
