Music Chosen + The Soundtrack

‘Indie/Alternative’• This is a genre I chose because I like the

music but also because it fits to make a music video is less stereotypically conventional compared to pop music videos, like Taylor Swift/One Direction and so on who all have big production music videos that follow conventions and are a similar style.

This is the main page on iTunes for the alternative/indie genre. It fits music that isn’t ‘popular’ but does have a wide fan base (and is becoming more popular!) with artists having access to the internet, bands don’t need to be popular on the radio and the music channels anymore because they can find success online. As you can see here there is a ‘new releases section’ which gives artists a chance to be listened too by the audience all in one place.

My chosen song was by Bombay Bicycle Club : when you search them on iTunes, losts of results show up. As far as alternative/indie artists go, they are quite a popular band. They have done sessions on BBC radio 1 live lounge, which shows their popularity that a mainstream Radio station is interested in working with them.

The song I chose was ‘Home by Now’ Off their second most popular album. Although the song is not the most popular one of that album. I decided to create a music video for one of the songs which didn't’t have a video + let a mix of influences inspire me to create a music video that fitted with conventions, but also broke conventions too.

I have followed conventions when it comes to the track on the video, because I made sure I was editing to the beat of the song. Using short shots that lasted up to a few seconds. When the shot lasts too long it can become boring to the audience.

This is an example of my footage, in about 17 seconds at the beginning of the song, you can see how many times there are shot changes. This is fitting in with the instrumental intro of the song that changes many times.

I followed the convention of editing to the beat for my music video, I think it’s a major part of what I have done to keep the video inline with others I have seen.
