Legends of Valentine’s Day• One legend says that Valentine was

a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men are better soldiers than those married, he outlawed marriage for young men. Valentine continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine’s actions were discovered, Claudius ordered to kill him.

• And Valentine’s Day is celebrated in the middle of February to commemorate the anniversary of Valentine’s death

Legends of Valentine’s Day

• According to another legend, Valentine actually sent the first ‘valentine’ greeting himself. While he was in prison, Valentine fell in love with a young girl, his jailor’s daughter, who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, he wrote her a letter, which he signed ‘From your Valentine,’ an expression that is still in use today.

Traditions of V-day celebration

• V-day celebration is impossible without cards, flowers , chocolates, lyrics and sonnets. On this day, the English people, especially the kids sing their favorite romantic tracks or love ballads and listeners give them candies, toys and truffles in return.

• On V-day, the young girls wake up early in the morning, stand near the window, and look at the people passing by. There is a belief(поверие) in Britain that the first man a girl sees in the morning of Valentine's Day is the man meant for her.

• People in the U.K. believe , that on the 14th of February ,birds come together to find their mates. That’s why the second name of this holiday is ‘Birds Wedding Day'. It is a tradition to eat baked buns topped with caraway seeds, plums and raisins on this day. In U.K., Valentine's Day marks the end of winter and commencement of spring.

The symbols of St. Valentine’s Day• Hearts

"A hundred hearts would be too few, to carry all my love for you". This one line sums it up all. Heart is an icon of love, life, passion, emotions. On V-day, lover's present each other heart shaped flower bouquets, pillows and cards to express their heartfelt love and affection for their partners.

comes to our mind when we talk of love or Valentine's Day is bright red roses. Nothing expresses love better than a rose which is the universal symbol for passion, desire, romance, and most importantly, true love.

Love birds.• Lovebirds definitely
