Example install of Generic Bluetooth Radio driver to Windows 7 operating system

Noptel Oy, Oulu Finland (Bluetooth_Install-W7_Microsoft.doc, Doc.:N42187AE) 29.2.2012

For wireless use Noptel’s Expert device is equipped with bluetooth radio, which connects to a

similar bluetooth radio of the PC. Normally, bluetooth transmission radio is built-in in the PC

computer and has to be enabled first. Under Windows 7 Microsoft provides its own ‘Generic

Bluetooth Radio’ software driver that is compatible with most Bluetooth devices including

Noptel ST-2000 Expert device. Bluetooth radio of the computer has to be set on and

appropriate drivers have to be set up before the Expert-device(s) can be used.

Please note, that Noptel does not provide any bluetooth drivers.

In the following pages is an example setup of one bluetooth device to a Tablet PC with

Windows 7 operating system.

Expert Bluetooth devices connected to the Tablet PC.

First, the internal Bluetooth radio has to be set on. Look at the desktop and notice an ‘Acer

Ring’ shortcut, which is a specialized device control environment for tablet PC - provided by

Acer.

Now press ‘Device Control’ and you will see the following Bluetooth options:

Tablet PC: ACER Iconia TAB W500 Operating System: Windows 7, Service Pack 1 Bluetooth Driver Provider: Microsoft

Notice Bluetooth ON/OFF setup and set it ON. After that close the ‘Device Control’ by

pressing the ‘X’ at the upper right corner.

If your Tablet/Notebook/Laptop computer’s brand is something else than this, please search

for something similar setup. Sometimes there might be a special button near the keyboard to

set Bluetooth radio on or off. Please refer to the documentation that came with your computer

from where and how to set Bluetooth on.

When Bluetooth is set on click ‘Devices and Printers’ or press Bluetooth button of the

‘Device Control’ to add new devices (look at the picture above) :

Now is the time to start up a remote bluetooth device. In this example we use Noptel ST-2000

Expert device. Unplug the USB cable (if connected) and press the main button of the Expert

device for a couple of seconds to see something like the following in the display of the device:

ST-2000 Expert device’s display after start-up.

Please note a small ‘Y’ sign in the bottom right corner of the display. It tells that the device

can be discovered and is waiting for the PC to connect. The device now listens for a few

minutes. When the time is over the ‘Y’ sign disappears and the bluetooth module is shut down

to save the battery. If this happens, you can continue in normal stand-alone operating mode or

by using the main button restart the device for a new try out.

Please note:

This might be necessary after

every restart of the Tablet PC,

when you need Bluetooth

connections.

In the setup wizard press ‘Add a device’.

After that, a setup wizard searches for nearby Bluetooth devices an display them as they are

found. After a while (which can be quite awhile) something like the following should appear:

There can be just one device or several bluetooth devices available. If there is no devices at all

and no ‘Y’ sign on the display of the Expert device, restart the Expert device and search

again.

Let’s look at back of the Expert device to find out the last four digits of the remote device’s

‘MAC address’ – in this case it is: ‘A719’.

Expert device’s serial number and bluetooth MAC address.

Compare the MAC address to the setup wizard choices, select the device with matching

MAC address and press ‘Next >’ to connect to the device.

… and wait for awhile.

Finally, you should see the following:

Press ‘Close’ and open ‘Devices and Printers’ again (see page 2). Now you can see that

there is a new device: ‘ST-2000 Expert-….’, which is ready to be used.

Now you are ready to run the NOS Pro application software!

6/8

Look at the desktop and notice an ‘NOS Pro’ shortcut.

Click the shortcut to start NOS Pro application. Wait for a moment while the application is

scanning and searching Expert devices.

Advanced

Maximum number of bluetooth devices connected to one ‘piconet’ at the same time is 7

devices and the number of devices may be limited by application too. In fact, if there are

many devices that are not used, the automatic search process of the NOS Pro application

might get slow or uncertain. Thus, it’s a good idea to remove all those devices that you do not

use anymore. To remove device: first open ‘Devices and Printer’ and then select the device to

be focused. After that press ‘Remove device’ and then ‘Yes’ to the confirmation question.
