What is a Lexile Measure?

•A Lexile measure is a valuable piece of information about either an individual's reading ability or the difficulty of a text.•The Lexile measure is shown as a number with an "L" after it . For example, 880L is 880 Lexile.

How are Lexile levels assigned?

• A student gets his or her Lexile reader measure from a reading test or program like the Scholastic Reading Inventory (SRI).

• A book, article, or an excerpt from a text gets a Lexile text measure based on two strong predictors of how difficult a text is to comprehend: vocabulary and sentence length.

• When a Lexile text measure matches a Lexile reader measure, this is called a "targeted" reading experience.

Read 180What is the Read 180 Program?• It’s a comprehensive system of curriculum, instruction,

assessment, and professional development proven to raise achievement in reading.

Components include• Individual adaptive software for students and data for

differentiation for teachers• Engaging multimedia science and social studies content

as well as literature• High interest paperback books and audio books• Student dashboards that help students see and track

their progress and take ownership of their learning

System 44What is the System 44 Program?

• It’s also a comprehensive system of curriculum, instruction, and assessment.

• It’s a foundational reading program for our most challenged readers in grades 3 – 12.

• It focuses on intensive phonics and decoding instruction.

• It includes the same components as Read 180 (adaptive software, paperback and audio books, student dashboard, and engaging multimedia).
