Edexcel BTEC Level 3. Subsidiary Diploma in Sport. 60 Credit – 360 Guided Learning Hours (over two years, or 30 credits to achieve the L3 Certificate in Sport, if completed after one year) Lessons: 4 in year 12 and 5 in year 13. Y12 Content (30 credits = L3 Certificate): 3 Mandatory Units:- 1 Principles of Anatomy and Physiology in Sport (5 credits) 2 The Physiology of Fitness (5 credits) 3 Assessing risk in Sport (10 credits) One additional unit from:- • Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise (10 credits) • Principles and Practices in Outdoor Adventure (10 credits) Y13 Content Three optional units (each worth 10 credits), to “top up” the awarded certificate from Y12 to achieve the “Subsidiary Diploma in Sport”. All assignments produced are marked internally and samples sent off to the exam board for external moderation. Work is awarded a Pass, Merit or Distinction, based on the criteria that is set by the exam board. The course is a mixture of theory and practical lessons. Students are given the opportunity to take additional qualifications whilst studying this course. Eg, Coaching courses and First Aid. Content Introduction Where next ….. The BTEC Level 3 can be used to study further at Institutes of Higher Education. It is the equivalent to one full A Level and can be used alongside other Level 3 qualifications. It is also useful if you are thinking about a job in the fitness and leisure industry or coaching sport. BTEC Level 2 in Sport or C in GCSE PE is desirable. You must have a keen interest in sport and a commitment to meet coursework deadlines.
