Extra Listening: English
To improve your listening skills, it’s important to practise regularly. Below, you find a number of listening exercises. Do 3 of them each week in a separate notebook, and show your notes every last lesson of the week. O Watch editions of Newsround (BBC1, every weekday, check your guide for times) Task: fill in the sheet “Watching the news”* while you are listening. O Watch 4 news clips online (e.g. www.channel4.com\news) Task each time:

O Listen to a broadcast of the news on BBC World Service (online) Task: - Fill in the “Watching the News” sheet while you are listening. O Watch 4 news clips on www.bbc.co.uk. Write a short report of what you heard and learnt. O Find a documentary-like item on www.youtube.com that you like. Give the link, adding a
short report on what was in it, and why you chose it. O See if you can find documentary-like items on www.youtube.com that are related to the
topics in your books. Give the link and a short summary of what you’ve heard.
O Do a HAVO/VWO listening test at school during one or two of your KWT-lessons at school. Ask your teacher well in advance to give you the material.
* The “Watching the News” file can be found on the school website, under “Leerlingen”. Then go to “Havo/Atheneum 1-5/6”, and then to “Engels”.
