A Camping Trip to Betong
It is Sunday. Michael’s father William is driving him to Bukit Saban. They are off to see some of his father’s friends. They intend to camp at a waterfall near Betong on Sunday. Michael’s father and his friends used to visit the waterfall when they were schoolboys in Betong.
The previous night William had told Michael about the waterfall. He said that on one occasion, they saw a troop of monkeys eating some ripe wild fruits. Another time, they saw a playful family of otters. They were as playful as a litter of kittens.
Before he went to bed, Michael made sure that his digital camera was also packed. Michael is an avid photographer. He didn’t want to miss shooting photos of any wildlife that they came across. He had already packed his clothes. Being an experienced traveler, Michael knew what to carry. He had packed his jungle knife, rough jungle clothes and a first aid box. He also made sure that his mobile phone was fully charged.
On Saturday morning, Michael checked his father’s car. He made sure that the engine, brakes and tyres were in good condition. He left a large can of clean water in the boot.
Before they left, Michael went over his checklist. He wanted to make sure that he had prepared well for the trip with his father.

Question 6
Sample answer
Good morning to our principal, Mr Edward Ngelai, teachers and my
fellow friends. Today, I would like to talk about 3R Campaign in our school.
The objective of the campaign is for everyone to care for the environment.
First and foremost, 3R means (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle). You
should always reduce waste by sorting rubbish before throwing it. Try to
reuse unwanted materials such as bottles, jars and containers. You can
recycle items such as paper, aluminium cans, plastic and paper. You can
put the recyclable items into the recycle bin.
In addition, we should reduce waste, reuse unwanted materials and
recycle because this can help to reduce pollution. There are many kinds of
pollution such as water and air pollution. Pollution can cause animals to
die, spread of diseases and haze.
If you make 3R a way of life, you can protect plants and animals from
dying. You can reduce people from cutting down more trees. Besides that,
you can also save energy. By recycling, factories can save electricity, water
and natural resources. Moreover, this can help to lessen pollution.
Prepared by Madam Lee SP, 2015 Page 18
Form 1 English Mid-Year Exams 2015
Putting it in a nutshell, everyone should work hand-in-hand to combat
pollution. Let us work together to make 3R Campaign a success. Thanks
for lending me your ears.
