COMMISSIONS    Sales  will  be  administered  by  FAC  which  will  retain  a  25%  of  each  purchase..ADMISSION  IS  FREE..    Donations  are  gratefully  accepted.

Our  Open  Juried  Spring  Show  is  close  at  hand.  The  Call  for  Entries  sheet  has  been  available  at  the  general  meetings  and  is  on  the  front  page  of  this  newsletter.  Be  sure  to  read  the  schedule  of  events  carefully  and  note  that  entry  day,  Sunday  May  12th,  is  Mother’s  Day.  This  is  not  ideal  but  we  have  no  other  date  to  offer.    If  you  are  absolutely  unable  to  spare  any  part  of  that  day  to  submit  your  entry  and  cannot  hind  someone  to  do  it  for  you,  please  contact  Carol  Reardon  or  Anne  Youngblood,  before  May  6th.    We  can  handle  a  limited  number  of  entries  on  a  special  basis.

Our  April  general  meeting  guest  artist,  Roseanne  Haslett,    gave  an  interesting  demo  on  her  approach  to  pastel  painting.  Kyle  Denning  was  the  winner  of  a  pastel  portrait  study  of  “Schnookums”.  In  addition  to  the  (canine)  portrait  study,  Roseanne  donated  a  variety  of  pastel  sticks  which  were  divided  among  grateful  members.

Guest  artist  for  May  is  Michael  Steirnagle.    Don’t  miss  the  demo  or  workshop  with  this  well  regarded  artist.  Also  on  tap  for  our  May  meeting  is  the  general  election.    As  the  board  voted  to  realign  our  hiscal  and  term  to  the  calendar  year,  the  vote  will  conhirm  the  extension  of  the  ofhicer’s  terms  through  December  2013.

My  thanks  to  Carol  Reardon  and  the  plein  air  painters  who  participated  in  our  Village  Square  Paint-‐In  on  April  6th.  The  weather  was  lovely  and  the  activity  attracted  a  number  of  interested  observers.

And,  check  out  the  new  hanging  at  the  Bob  Burton  Center.  It  is  a  lovely  show.  And  again,  my  sincere  thanks  to  Marlene  Sheridan  (and  granddaughter),  Jerry  Pennington  (and  grandchildren),  and  Marilee  Ragland  for  volunteering  to  hang  the  show.

Hope  to  see  you  at  all  our  May  events.    Best Regards, Annie

Visit  www.goldman/ineart.com  Right,  one  of  her  paintings  from  the  “I  Am  a  Child”  series.

Judge  Stephanie  Goldman  received  her  BA/MA  from  the  University  of  Humanistic  Studies,  Del  Mar.    She  began  her  professional  art  training  with  artist  Ken  Goldman  with  whom  she  collaborates  on  many  large-‐scale  projects.    She  has  lived  and  studied  in  Europe  furthering  her  artistic  skills  through  intensive  study  of  European  art,  Renaissance  art,  and  anthroposophic  art  therapy.  She  has  studied  with  landscape  colorist  Wolf  Kahn  and  nationally  known  higure  and  portrait  artist,  Nelson  Shanks.

The  Riverside  Art  Museum  exhibited  a  solo  show  from  her  child  portrait  series  “I  Am  A  Child,”  now  in  the  permanent  collection  of  the  Osteopathic  Center  for  Children  and  Families,  San  Diego,  CA.    Frontline  Publishing  Co,  Ramprod.com  and  Eastmeetswestco.com,

have  published  reproductions  of  her  work.  She  is  an  instructor  at  the  Athanaeum  School  of  the  Arts  in  La  Jolla  where  she  teaches  higure  drawing  and  portraiture.

5:30  Critique,  Two  Paintings  Max.6:30  Meeting  and  Demo8:00  Scholarship  Fund  Drawing.

Steirnagle’s  experience  is  extensive  and  varied.    He  is  currently  an  associate  professor  of  art  at  Palomar  College,  San  Marcos.    He  was  originally  a  freelance  art  illustrator  and  has  received  several  awards.      He  has  illustrated  a  number  of  children’s  books  and  illustrated  for  many  other  publications.  Among  his  long  list  of  commissions  are  Pepsi,  American  Airlines,  AT&T,  and  Major  League  Baseball.

Michael’s  work  hangs  in  an  impressive  number  of    public  and  private  collections.    He  is  represented  locally  by  the  Rancho  Santa  Fe  Art  Gallery  and  in  Arizona  by  Gasov  and  Gurule  in  Scottsdale.    Michael  has  been  exhibiting  his  work  since  the  1980s  in  California,  Arizona,  Illinois,  New  Mexico,  New  York,  Texas  and  other  states..  He  has  an  ongoing  exhibit  at  the  Gallery  E  Sports  Gallery,  Baltimore  Orioles  Baseball  Team  Gallery.

For  a  full  list  of  Michael’s  many  accomplishments  and  a  sample  of  his  beautiful  female  higure  paintings,  go  to  www.Steirnagle.com.    In  his  artist’s  statement  Michael  explains  that  he  considers  himself  an  abstract  artist  although  he  paints  representationally.  He  seeks  to  hind  a  comfortable  balance

between  form  and  content  letting  life  events  and  emotions  effect  the  end  result.  He  hinds  the  painting  experience  to  be  a  total  emersion  in  a  sea  of  lush  paint  and  color  which,  hopefully,  evolves  into  a  pleasurable  and  meaningful  experience  for  the  viewer.

Michael  divides  his  time  between  his  studio  in  Southern  California  and  Costa  Rica  where  he  has  a  second  home.

FAA 2006 SCHOLARSHIP WINNER, TAHNEE GEHM, WINS AGAIN

Fallbrook  Art  Association  raises  money  each  year  for  scholarships  that  are  given  to  art-‐focused  college-‐bound  graduating  seniors  at  Fallbrook  Union  High  School.    FAA's  2006  scholarship  recipient,  Tahnee  Gehm,  returned  recently  to  receive  an  international  hilm  award  for  animation  at  the  Fallbrook  International  Film  Festival  held  in  April  and  to  be  introduced  at  FAA's  April  general  meeting.    She  is  currently  a  student  at  the  California  Institute  of  the  Arts  studying  character  animation.    Creating  a  handful  of  internationally  screened  animated  short  hilms  in  as  many  diverse  styles  as  possible,  she  hopes  one  day  to  start  her  own  animation  studio.  While  art  and  animation  have  been  lifelong  passions  she  also  enjoys  playing  the  violin  and  piano  along  with  tinkering  into  technology.  Below  are  examples  of  some  of  her  work.
