The statistics are staggering! One in three women globally have been physically abused, and sadly, there are very few treatment options for victims of abuse.

Approximately two-thirds of reported domestic violence incidents are classified as “simple assaults”, which result in disfigurements that are at least as serious as 90% of all rapes and robberies. These simple assaults result in serious disfigurements that are often left untreated.

Domestic violence is abuse committed by a spouse, a former spouse, a boyfriend or girlfriend, or a cohabitant. It is estimated that an act of domestic violence occurs every 15 seconds somewhere in the United States. That figure translates to over 2.5 million victims per year. Abuse affects the lives of the victim, family and the children who live within the boundaries of these abusive relationships.

The effects of continued or traumatic abuse are lasting and indelible. These marks are a constant reminder of a tortuous past and significantly affect the ability of former victims to interact with the public, erase the past and find courage to move forward with dignity.

The mission of Face Forward is to provide physical and emotional reconstruction for women and children who have been victimized by domestic or gang related violence. FaceForward vows to provide each victim with the best possible treatment probono.

Mrs. Deborah Alessi founded Face Forward in 2008. Mrs. Alessi is a survivor of domestic violence and an advocate of this worthy cause. To help other survivors get a second chance at life, Mrs. Alessi recruited her husband and renowned facial reconstructive surgeon Dr. David Alessi M.D. Their goal is to create a healthy, happy, and safe environment for the patient and their children.

Both have a long history of supporting charitable causes, served not-for-profit organizations as board members, and benefactors.

Face Forward is a nonprofit 501 c(3) organization, registered in the State of California, and our main office is in Los Angeles, California.

Better than 90% of all donations are directed toward victim treatment and recovery. Since an average patient’s initial treatment costs approximately $5,000, every penny helps.

Our mission is to provide physical and emotional reconstruction for women and children who have been victimized by domestic or gang related violence. Face Forward vows that all individuals who cannot afford the fees associated with proper internal and external care will be treated pro-bono. Our team of skilled surgeons and specialists have been fortunate enough to impact the lives of many with truly life-changing results, but this is just the beginning. We need your help.

Face Forward’s Annual Gala is held each year to help patients like MarT&e’l. Maribel is from Lima, Peru. As an indirect result of a violent attack on her mother, she suffered horrible facial burns at the age of 12. It was a devastating life changing experience!

Maribel experienced daily taunting from her classmates about the disfigurement which forced her to drop out of school. It was at the age of 17, that she met a missionary, who felt so deeply for her plight, that she made it her mission to help. Soon after, Maribel was put in touch with Face Forward and her journey began.

She came to us on the verge of suicide. Emotionally, psychologically, and physically broken. She admitted “It was horrible for me to look in the mirror!” But, the one thing each and every one of us can always cling to in this life is hope and she developed tons of it!

Through Face Forward and Dr. David Alessi, she summoned up the courage to move past the fear and anxiety of what her life had been. She truly is a warm young woman, deserving of this opportunity. To date, she has undergone 26 life changing, pro-bono surgeries, to help her on the path towards a more normal, fulfilled life.

She can now look in the mirror and love what she sees.

And, what a life it has become. With the utmost pride I can say today, Maribel, 25 years old is back in school in Peru, with sponsorship, studying to become a nurse.

Someone gave unconditionally to her life, and she is now dedicating herself to others, thanks to the generosity of those who support Face Forward.

After having two handsome sons together, Audrey began to realize that she was not happy in her relationship with her husband and she was being mistreated.

Three weeks after Audrey told her husband she wanted a divorce, she was now separated and taking jog around their neighborhood and returned home to find the door unlocked and her soon to be ex-husband waiting for her.

Immediately, Audrey knew something was wrong. He threatened Audrey with a knife, and then hit her in the head with a hammer four times. He then took her into the garage, where he already had a plan set-up.

Audrey was forced onto a blanket in the middle of the garage and after she struggled to put up a fight, he poured gasoline across her body. Her husband then took a candle that the two had in their home for years, and as soon as he lit the candle Audrey’s bodywent up in flames. Audrey managed to escape the garage still on fire and went to her neighbor’s house.

It took numerous surgeries, skin grafts, and even a couple of months in a coma, before Audrey was able to start her new life as a single parent. Audrey began to look for different outlets to begin the reconstruction process and she found Face Forward.

Audrey has received two procedures and will receive three more. Today, Audrey can now hold her head up high as she is a domestic violence advocate and speaks at various conferences.

Hosted by actress Sara Rue, the Face Forward 4th Annual Gala was held on September 28, 2013 at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel and Bungalows to benefit survivors of domestic violence.

The 4th annual Gala featured a Gatsby- themed evening that included a cocktail hour with live music and cigarette girls dancing entertainment, a star filled red carpet, and a silent auction. The Gala also included a performance by Stacy Francis, former contestant X-Factor finalist, formal dinner, and after the live auction the guests were treated to a mini-concert by Grammy Award Winner, Macy Gray. Talent in attendance included actress Bonnie Somerville (Golden Boy), actor Kevin Alejandro (True Blood), actress Jennifer Coolidge (2 Broke Girls), actor Shaun Toub (Homeland), and actress Shohreh Aghdashloo and more.

Sponsor grants Affiliate a limited, non-exclusive license to use Sponsor’s name, logo, service mark and trademarks (“Sponsor Licensed Marks”) solely for the purpose of including Sponsor in listings and descriptions of FACE FORWARD sponsors during the Term of this Agreement. Affiliate shall not sublicense, transfer or assign the use of the Sponsor Licensed Marks to any person or entity without the prior written consent of Sponsor.

Affiliate reserves the right, upon request, to require Sponsor to provide additional documentation to support the value of in-kind donations prior to acceptance of such donations as credit toward Sponsor’s sponsorship fee.

Neither Foundation nor Affiliate shall be responsible for damages that result from delays or postponements of the FACE FORWARD due to circumstances beyond their reasonable control. In the event that the FACE FORWARD does not take place due to any cause beyond the reasonable control of the parties, Sponsor’s sponsorship fee as set forth above shall be treated as a donation to the Affiliate and shall not be reduced or refunded.

The parties to this Agreement are not joint ventures, partners, agents or representatives of each other, and have no legal relationship other than as contracting parties to this Agreement. This Agreement may not be assigned by either party. This Agreement represents the entire agreement between the parties and supersedes any prior understandings or agreements.

Each party agrees to indemnify and hold the other harmless from and against any and all costs, losses or expenses, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, that the other party may incur by reason of any claim or lawsuit arising out of, or in connection with the indemnifying party’s negligence, intentional mis-conduct performance or failure to perform pursuant to this Agreement, or any service or product sold or provided by the indemnifying party in connection with the FACE FORWARD.

The parties will arbitrate any dispute, claim or controversy relating to or arising out of this Agreement. The arbitration shall be conducted in Los Angeles County in accordance with the rules of the American Arbitration Association. The arbitrator’s decision will be final and binding on the parties. Notwithstanding the provisions of this section, nothing in this Agreement shall be construed to require the arbitration of any claim arising out of the provisions of this Agreement. At the Affiliate’s election, these provisions shall be enforceable by any court of competent jurisdiction and shall not be subject to arbitration under this Section 11.

Each party shall maintain, during the Term of this Agreement, insurance in an amount sufficient to cover liability for bodily injury, property damage and death arising out of the party’s activities in connection with the activities which are the subject of this Agreement. Each party shall furnish a certificate of insurance to the other party showing that such insurance policies are in place within thirty (30) days after the Effective Date of this Agreement.

This Agreement shall be governed by the laws of the State of California.
