Poplar is a medium-weight, damp, vibration-absorbing softwood. Ash is a heavier hardwood that compliments the Poplar by increasing stiffness, responsiveness and providing a solid base for the binding screws.

B A L S A D 2 5 0

Balsa is an exceptionally light hardwood. Laminated vertically together divided by strips of woven flax (also known as linseed), to provide additional torsional and compression strength.

PA U L O W N I A

Paulownia is a very light hardwood that is stable and easy to machine. Cores made with this material are lighter than Balsa/Flax cores, but are more expensive and require a lamination layer such as carbon-fibre to improve responsiveness.

B i - A X I A L / T R I - A X I A L F I B R E G L A S S

Fibreglass is used in two different formats to aid the compressional strength of the core and ensure long-lasting pop.

Carbon-fibre is used on our lightweight Escape series skis to re-inforce the core and increase edge-hold, responsiveness and rebound.

In continuing our efforts to improve chip-resistance in our skis, we’ve incorporated a ‘micro’ cap where the topsheet meets the sidewall on our sandwich construction skis. Available on most models.

Titanal has the same properties in all directions and excellent dampening properties. Our skis with Titanal have excellent torsional strength and responsiveness.

Used on most of our skis. A traditional manufacturing method that provides strength, durability, good grip and edge hold. Rubber is used to dampen vibration and bond the base layers to the core.

Unibody construction is slightly less expensive per ski, but complicated to setup. Still using wood cores, the cap technique removes the sidewall to save weight and materials. Rubber is used to dampen vibration and bond the base layers to the core.

Borrowed from world-cup race skis, two different radii on the one ski - a tighter radius forward of the boot center coupled with a 20% larger sidecut behind - lets us increase the edge-to-edge responsiveness so you can carve short turns whilst retaining high speed stability and control through the tail of the ski.

M U LT I - R A D I U S S I D E C U T S

On our skis with multi-sidecut we’ve taken the dual-sidecut concept a step further. Instead of going directly from sidecut to taper we use multiple sidecuts to straighten out the ski before the taper. This creates a fluid ride with smooth transitions from carve to slide.

T R A N S I T I O N Z O N E T E C H N O L O G Y

Our “Blended Transition Zones” use complex curve geometries where both positive/negative sidecut and where rocker/camber meet to make turn initiation fluid yet the whole ski more stable controllable in all conditions.Used on our Chapter and Standard series.

Matte ICP8210 topsheets require no lacquering saving around 100gm / pair, and reduces the use of not-quite-environmentally friendly lacquer. It also shows through the natural structure of the underlying laminate layers.

G L O S S I C P 8 2 1 0 T O P S H E E T

Thicker and harder than our 14/15 topsheets, ICP8210 has a natural high-gloss finish which avoids the need for lacquer and helps the ski look better for longer. Better for the workers in the factory and better for the environment. A small but highly impactful change.

D I E - C U T P T E X 4 0 0 0

Used on most of our skis. Sintered PTEX 4000 base material is more porous and holds wax better than PTEX 2000.

The pre-ferred ski of urban slayer Tim McChesney, the updated Candide 1.0 features a new, smoother camberline and poplar/beech core for better on-snow feel. Aerogel is a synthetic porous ultralight material derived from a gel, in which the liquid component of the gel has been replaced with a gas. The result is a solid with extremely low density and low thermal conductivity. Aerogels are good thermal insulators because they almost nullify two of the three methods of heat transfer (convection, conduction, and radiation).

Aerogel insulation, with its nano-sized air pockets that block cold and heat, offers higher thermal performance than any other widely used insulation material - at a fraction of the thickness and weight.

3M™ Thinsulate™ insulation works by trapping air molecules between you and the outside. The more air a material traps in a given space‚ the better it insulates you from the cold air outside. Because the fibers in Thinsulate are finer than the fibers used in most other synthetic or natural insulation‚ they trap more air in less space‚ which naturally makes Thinsulate a better insulator. Thinsulate is breathable, moisture-resistant and machine washable/dry-cleanable.

Faction utilizes the best quality down available on the market from suppliers who adhere to the Responsible Down Standard (RDS). The Responsible Down Standard ensures that the down in our products comes from ethically treated fowl. The down is a by product of the food chain and does not allow live-plucking. Faction utilizes two fill powers, 800 fill, with 90/10 Goose Down, and 550 fill with 80/20 Duck Down. The fill of down is an indicator of warmth to weight and compressibility, both are critical for warmth and comfort. True fill power is measured by placing one ounce of down in a graduated cylinder and measuring the volume the down occupies in cubic inches. The higher the fill power, the more down clusters present, the greater the compressibility. So whether you are layering with the 800 fill or keeping warm in the 550, Faction has you covered both physically and ethically with our down selection.

Our Progressive fit is slightly longer in the body, straighter in the waist with straighter hems, rather than the traditional elliptical shape. We have also added a few style specific progressive fits that deserve their own tagline – such as the Shackleton, which has a progressive skinny fit, a very modern fit that is far slimmer than the rest of the line, but continues to work as a result of the expandable cuff to accommodate ski boots.

W O M E N ’ S P R O G R E S S I V E F I T

Our Progressive fit varies a little more in our women’s line, and becomes more style specific, with a nod to more fashion forward fits. For example, the Popova Pullover, features a funnel neck collar and hood with a modern A- Frame shaped body. Other progressive fits include our Bly Pant, which features a very skinny fit, with expandable cuffs to accommo-date ski boots.
