BENEFIT PAYMENT INFORMATION
How will I receive my benefit payments?Allreemploymentassistancepaymentsaremadeelectronically.Youmaychoosedirectdepositintoyourowncheckingorsavingsaccount.IfyoudonotselectdirectdepositaWay2GoDebitMastercardaccountwillbeestablishedforyou.
ThestateofSouthDakotapartnerswithComericaBanktoprovidetheWay2GoCardDebitMastercardthatworksmuchlikeastandarddebitcard.Yourbenefitpaymentsaredepositedintoanaccountcreatedforyoubythecardissuer.Thiscardaddsconvenienceandsecuritytoaccessingyourreemploymentassistancebenefitpayments.Formoreinformation,contactWay2GoCardCustomerServiceat1.844.893.3123orgoprogram.com.
Toenrollindirectdeposit,logintoyouronlinereemploymentassistanceaccountatRAclaims.sd.govandselectthe“ChangePaymentMethod”optiononthemainmenu.Youmayalsoreturnthedirectdepositformthatisincludedinyourinitialclaimpacketalongwithavoidedcheckoracopyofacheck.Ifyousignedupfordirectdepositonapriorclaim,wewillusetheaccountinformationthatisonfile.
When will I receive my first benefit payment?• Youcanexpectyourfirstpaymenttobemadethreetofourweeksafteryouapplyforbenefits.• Youwillreceivepaymentifalleligibilityrequirementsaremet.• Youwillnotreceivebenefitsifyouaredisqualifiedforanyreason.• Youwillreceiveanoticeinthemailwhenyouhavesatisfiedyournon-paidwaitingweek.

WAGE REQUIREMENTS AND BENEFIT AMOUNT INFORMATION
What are the wage requirements?Toqualifyforbenefits,youmusthavebeenpaidwagesforinsuredwork,forcivilianemploymentwiththefederalgovernment,orforactivedutyinthemilitaryserviceintwoormorequartersofyourbaseperiod.Wagesfromanotherstate(s)canbeusedto establish a combined wage claim.
How are benefit amounts calculated?• Yourweeklybenefitis1/26thofthewagespaidinthehighestquarterofyourbaseperiod,uptoamaximumamount
determinedbythestate’saverageweeklywage.Yourwagesinthishighquartermustbeatleast$728.• Also,yourwagesintheotherthreequartersofyourbaseperiodmustbeatleast20timesyourweeklybenefit.
Themaximumamountpayableinyourbenefityearisone-thirdofyourtotalbaseperiodwages,butnotmorethan26timesyourweeklybenefit.
What is the base period?Thefollowingchartscanbeusedtodeterminetheregularbaseperiodorthealternativebaseperiod.Theregular base period isthefirstfourofthelastfivecompletedcalendarquartersbeforetheeffectivedateofyournewclaimforreemploymentassistancebenefits.
Ifyoufileanewclaim,andarenoteligibleusingtheregularbaseperiod,youmaybedeterminedmonetarilyeligibleunderanalternativebaseperiod that uses more recent wages.
There is also an alternate base period forpersonswhoarenotmonetarilyeligiblebecausetheyhavenotworkedforanextendedperiodduetoawork-related injury.Thisbaseperiodisthefirstfourofthelastfivecompletedcalendarquarterspriortotheinjuryandcanonlybeusedifaclaimisfiledwithin24monthsaftertheinjury.

Examples:IfyoufileyourclaiminMay,yourregularbaseperiodisthepreviousJanuarythroughDecember.However,ifnotmonetarilyeligibleusingtheregularbaseperiod,youralternativebaseperiodwouldbethepreviousAprilthroughMarch.
Each square represents a calendar quarter. The squares with regular borders designate the quarter during which the claim wasfiled.Thesquareswithstrongbordersdesignatethebaseperiodusedtoestablishtheclaim.
REGULAR BASE PERIOD ALTERNATIVE BASE PERIOD
SEASONAL WAGESSeasonalwagesarewagesearnedwithanemployerwhocustomarilysuspendsoperationforaperiodoffivemonthsormorewithinacalendaryear.Tobeeligibleforaseasonaldesignation,anemployerrequeststhedesignationandthenmustbeapprovedbytheDepartmentofLaborandRegulation.
Seasonalwagesareusedtodetermineyourweeklybenefitamount.However,theonlytimeyoucandrawagainstseasonalwages is during the period the employer would normally be open for business.
Youarenotifiedonyourmonetarydeterminationifyouhaveseasonalwages.
How will I know if I meet the wage requirements?You will receive a monetarydeterminationindicatingyourweeklyandmaximumbenefitamounts.Thisdeterminationisusuallymailedwithinfivedaysafteryournewclaimisfiled.Missingwagesmaycauseadelayinthemailingofamonetarydetermination.
Thisisthefirststepindeterminingyoureligibility.Youmaybedisqualifieddependingonthereasonyoubecameunemployedoryoumaybedeniedbenefitsifyoudonotmeetothereligibilityrequirements.
Ifyouhavenotreceivedamonetarydeterminationaftertwoweeks(threeweeksforout-of-stateclaimants),youshouldcallCustomerServiceat605.626.2452.
What if I disagree with the monetary determination?Examineyourmonetarydeterminationcarefully.Ifyouthinkyouhavenotbeengivencreditforallwages:
• CallCustomerServiceat605.626.2452.• Requestare-determination.• Provideproofofyourwages(paycheckstubsorW-2forms).• Continuetofileyourweeklyrequestforpaymentunlessyoubecomeemployed.
Ifyoudonotagreewiththedetermination,youmayfileanappeal(seepage10).
Can I cancel my claim?Ifforsomereasonyouwanttocancelyourclaim,youhavefifteendaysfromthedatethemonetarydeterminationwasmailedtosubmitawrittenrequestforcancellation.However,youcannotcancelyourclaimafteradeterminationdisqualifyingyoufromreceivingbenefitshasbeenissued.
If you are ineligible due to insufficient wages, you may attempt to file during the next calendar quarter.

When do I have to reopen my claim?Youmustreopenyourclaimunderthefollowingcircumstances:
• Ifyoureturntoworkandthenseparatefromthatemployment,evenifitisforonedayorless. (Youmustreopenyourclaimimmediatelyfollowingtheseparationfromemploymentoryoumaylosebenefits.)• Ifyouhavenotfiledanyweeklyrequestsforpaymentforaperiodoffourormoreweeks.• IfyouchangeyouraddressasaresultofmovingoutofSouthDakotaormovingbacktoSouthDakota.
AclaimfiledonaSundayiseffectivethatSunday,andaclaimfiledonMondaythroughSaturdayiseffectiveontheSundayprecedingthedatetheclaimwasfiled.Ifyoudonotfiletheclaimwithintheweekforwhichyouwishtoreceivebenefits,youmaylosethosebenefits.YoumayreopenonlineatRAclaims.sd.govorbycalling605.626.3179.
WEEKLY REQUEST FOR PAYMENT
What is a claim week?Weeklyrequestsforpaymentcoveracalendarweekbeginning12MidnightonSundayandendingat11:59p.m.(CST)thefollowing Saturday.
When do I file a weekly request for payment?Youmaysubmityourweeklyrequestforpaymentanytimeduringthecalendarweekfollowingtheweekyouarerequestingbenefits.Forexample,ifyouwanttofileaweeklyrequestforpaymentfortheweekofJanuary1throughJanuary7,youwouldfileyourweeklyrequestforpaymentbetween12MidnightonJanuary8and11:59p.m.onJanuary14.
Ifyoudonotgetyourweeklyrequestforpaymentfiledwithintheoneweekfilingtime,youwillneedtocallCustomerServiceat605.626.2452tofilearequestforpaymentandprovideareasonwhyitwasfiledlate.Dependingonthereason(s),youmayormaynotreceivepaymentforthatweek.
How do I file my weekly request for payment?FilingisavailableontheInternetorthroughtheInteractiveVoiceResponse(IVR)systemusingatouch-tonetelephoneorvoiceresponse.
Only youareauthorizedtofileyourclaimforbenefits.Theresponsibilityforfilingweeklyrequestsforpaymentcannotbegiventoanotherperson,includingyourspouse.Youwillbeheldresponsibleforanyfalseinformationprovided.

IfyouarefilingthroughtheInternet,youmustreceiveconfirmationthatyourrequestforpaymenthasbeenaccepted. If you logoffpriortoreceivingthatconfirmation,yourrequestforpaymenthasNOTbeenfiled.Youwillhavetologinandresubmityourweeklyrequestforpaymentandwaitforconfirmation.

What times can I file my weekly request for payment?FilingbyInternetortelephoneisavailable24hoursaday,sevendaysaweek.AllweeklyrequestsforpaymentsubmittedthroughtheInternetorIVRarerecordedatCentralTime.Ifforanyreasonthesystemisnotavailableduetoroutinemaintenanceandprocessingofbenefitpayments,youwillreceiveamessageindicatingthesystemiscurrentlyunavailable.Pleasewaitapproximatelytwohoursbeforeattemptingtore-enteryourweeklyrequestforpayment.
What is a waiting period?Thefirsteligibleweeklyrequestforpaymentyoufilewillbeawaitingperiodweek.Youwillnotbepaidforthewaitingperiodweek,butyoumustfilearequestforpaymentforthatweek.Everyoneservesonewaitingweekperbenefityear.
You must still meet all eligibility requirements for the non-paid waiting week.
What questions will I be asked when I file a weekly request for payment?Belowarequestionsyoumaybeaskedwhenfilingyourweeklyrequestforpayment.
1.Duringtheweekyouarerequestingpaymentfor,didyouworkforanemployerorinself-employment?• You must report allhoursworked(tothenearesttenthofanhour)regardlessofyouremployer’sworkweekorpay
period,includingself-employment(afterexpenses),evenifyouhavenotbeenpaid.• Report grosswages,includingtips(indollarsandcents),beforetaxesandanyotherdeductions. Gross wages are
calculatedbymultiplyingyourhourlyrateofpaytimesthenumberofhoursyouworkedduringtheclaimweek.• Reportthereasonablecashvalueofgoods(lodging,food,billpaid,etc.)receivedinsteadofwages.• Earningsthatmustbereportedalsoincludethingssuchasfeesreceivedbydirectorsofacorporation,feesorpayments
paidtopublicofficialsorbonuses.• Ifyouworkedbuthadnoearnings,wasitbecauseyouattemptedcommissionsales,wereself-employed,orhaveother
unpaidhours?(Seepage9.)• Ifyouworkedformorethanoneemployer,pleasecombineyourhoursandearningsforallemployersbeforefilingyour

Do I have to register for work with the South Dakota Department of Labor and Regulation, or my designated state workforce agency?Allindividualsfilingforreemploymentassistancebenefitsarerequiredtoberegisteredforworkandtoseekworkunless:
• Youhaveadefiniterecalldatetoreturntofull-timeworkwithanemployerwhopaid50percentormoreofyourbaseperiodwagesand,duetoweather-relatedseasonalfactors,workisnotavailableinyourprimarybase-periodoccupationandothersuitableworkisnotavailable,or
• Youareamemberingoodstandingwithareferringunionthroughwhichyounormallyobtainemployment,or• Youwillberecalledtofull-timeworkwithin10consecutiveweeksbyanemployer.
