Communication across languages and cultures is an arts broadening unit you can study with the Bachelors of Science, Design or Commerce. Studying this unit will be an appreciated addition to any of the degree courses and in particular as a broadening unit with majors such as Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing, Management, Marketing, Business, Human Resource Management, Computer Science, Engineering Science, Urban and Regional Planning and Science Communication. It will be advantageous if you are seeking to embark on a career in multicultural societies both in Australia and overseas. Communication across languages and cultures is a unit taught in the Bachelor of Arts Linguistics major and can also be taken by any student outside of a Bachelor of Arts as a broadening unit or elective. Linguistics is the study of human language and is concerned with what languages have in common, how they differ, their structure, and how they are used and learned. As part of your undergraduate course you are required to take four broadening units outside of your specific degree area, including at least one with a global focus (Category A). If students choose to undertake a second major that is outside their primary degree area, units studied as part of the second major can be credited towards their category B broadening requirements – and in some cases may also fulfil the Category A requirement.
