    F/W 08 trend report

Fall 08 was an inconsistent trend season. Designers embraced

their individualistic visions, making each collection shown on the

runways different from the next. On one side, structure and

austerity reigned supreme, while the other end of the court

submitted airy materials and showy patterns. Whatever direction

fashion may be taking or how contradictory collections may get,

this Fall there is irrefutably an underlying consensus by whichevery designer seems to abide: catering to a woman with a strong

sense of self and femininity. A lot of the major currents seen in

Spring have progressed into the Autumn collections and seasons

appear blurred... Florals for winter, transparent blouses, chiffon

pieces, pastel colors. It goes to show there are no more rules in

fashion. It is hard to tell which direction fashion is headed with

such an oxymoronic temper, but one thing remains for certain:

designers appear more than ever dedicated to crafting the most

exquisite pieces seen in years. You may even want to ask yourself

if our neighbours to the South are really threatened by a

    recession.
