Nous avons lancé Roy Al Arcanum, un ours en route qui étaitune faveur du parti au charité douche de bébé, nous avons tenuà Williamsburg. Il a honoré notre page Facebook et le présentbulletin comme un ambassadeur de bonne volonté pour notreorganisation. Je suis humilié et heureux que Evelyn Magarban, le vainqueur deArcanum’s que Fraternalist de l'année, a été choisi comme levainqueur de l'Alliance Fraternelle américaine ainsi! Son espritfraternel est toujours présente et contagieuse, et est encore unautre exemple de l'esprit de la Royal Arcanum. Lors de laprésentation, on m'a demandé à plusieurs reprises la façon dontnous produisons ces fraternalists merveilleux, et la réponse estque vous, nos membres, gardez inspirant mutuellement pouratteindre sommets toujours plus élevés. Je suis fier de Evelyn, etje sais que le vainqueur de l'an prochain est là en ce moment!

L'ensemble du Comité Exécutif est très excités au sujet de notreprojet de fusion avec les Fils de la Pologne. Cette organisationNew Jersey / New York est un grand ajustement pour notresociété, et chaque membre ai rencontré a été aussi accueillantque un Arcanian a été. Dear Brothers and Sisters,

It has been a great summer for the Royal Arcanum, andyou’ll see a lot of that excitement in this issue! Ourmini-vacation in Williamsburg, Virginia was a terrific timefor gathering in fellowship, rekindling old friendships, andforming new ones. All had a fantastic time, so flipthrough the pages and see what you’ve missed.

We’ve introduced Roy Al Arcanum, a traveling bear whowas a party favor at the charity baby shower we held inWilliamsburg. He’s graced our Facebook page and thisBulletin as a good-will ambassador for our organization.Each jurisdiction has one available to travel with them,so please keep sending in your pictures.

I’m humbled and excited that Evelyn Magarban, theArcanum’s winner as Fraternalist of the Year, was chosenas the American Fraternal Alliance’s winner as well! Herfraternal spirit is ever-present and contagious and is yetanother example of the Royal Arcanum’s spirit. At thepresentation, I was repeatedly asked how we producesuch wonderful fraternalists and the answer is that you,our members, keep inspiring each other to reach evergreater heights. I’m proud of Evelyn, and I know nextyear’s winner is out there right now!

The entire Executive Committee is very excitedabout our proposed merger with the Sons of Poland.This New Jersey / New York organization is a great fitfor our society, and every member I met has been aswelcoming as an Arcanian has been. I urge you to vote“Yes!” to the merger and help strengthen us by addingthem to our membership.

FRATERNALIST OF THE YEAR – EVELYN MAGARBAN

The Royal Arcanum ispleased to announce thatour 2015 Fraternalist of theYear, Sister EvelynMagarban of VersatilityCouncil #2501, New Jerseywas conferred the honor ofthe American FraternalAlliance’s Fraternalist of theYear. The award waspresented at the Alliance’sAnnual Meeting inIndianapolis, Indiana inSeptember.

“Evelyn Magarbanrepresents the very activeface of fraternalism, notonly in her community, butthroughout New Jersey andNorth America, as well,”said Alliance President and

CEO Joseph Annotti. A $1,000 honorarium inEvelyn’s name was made bythe Alliance to the FelicianSchool for ExceptionalChildren, Lodi, New Jersey,a charity selected byEvelyn.

Service is ingrained inEvelyn’s core; herleadership and energeticspirit have enlivened othersto volunteer. She is knownfor organizing efforts forhomeless and emergencyshelters, food pantries,veteran and militaryprojects, as well as for herwork with special needschildren, scout programs,care centers, variouschildren’s charities, andmore.

The Royal Arcanum Familyis grateful for Evelyn’sinspiring service and isproud to congratulate heras Fraternalist of the Year.

DOINGS IN MI GRAND COUNCIL/DETROIT COUNCIL 21A

July 25th was the date ofour Tiger Game Outing.Chairman Mark Hefnercoordinated a greatevent. Before the gamewe met at the GaelicLeague for hot dogs andhamburgers with all thefixins. These summertimefavorites were donated bythe Michigan Grand

Council and the Detroit Bowling Fund. Wehad 60 members and guests attending,including our sister council from Windsor,Canada. Even though the Tigers lost, allenjoyed the evening.

On September 12th, Chairman Eric Kimmel,along with MI Grand Council and DetroitCouncil 21A hosted the 31st RA Duffers GolfOuting in Monroe, MI. The weather wassunny and cool, however, the golf rain godsprevailed and the rain stayed away! We had11 foursomes including members from ourChicago and Pittsburgh Councils. It’s called a“Duffers” scramble for a reason - a lot of usare not the best golfers - however, we aregood at having 18 holes of fun! After golf, weall enjoyed a steak or chicken dinner and Ericannounced the winners: 1st place foursomewith lowest score was Foley Flop Shots/Detroit; Lowest score all RA/LDS foursomewas Palermos Pounders/Chicago, and Lastplace foursome was WoznysWhackers/Chicago.

A thank you to our Chicago and Pittsburghmembers who take the time each year tomake the drive to Monroe, MI to join us atthe golf outing. It’s great to have the time tovisit and catch up with what is going on intheir councils. Also, a BIG thank you to EricKimmel, Chairman and his lovely wife, BarbKimmel who both coordinated and workedvery hard to host a wonderful golf outing. Fallis approaching and that means the start of ourbowling leagues, and looking forward to ourSupreme Regent's visit on October 17!

Hip! Hip! Huzzah! Hip!Hip! Hoorah! Thesecheers echoed throughoutColonial Williamsburg asthe Arcanians and friendsgathered for the Summer’15 Mini Vacation at theWoodlands Hotel andSuites for four fabulousdays of sun and fun!

Chairman Jim O’Neill washappy to welcomeeveryone for a great timeand presented anoverview of the manysites and events takingplace in the area. SupremeRegent Carl Krzystofczykoffered his greetings andintroduced our family’snew addition, ‘Roy Al,’ whoarrived in time to be apart of our charitablegifting project – ‘AFriendship Baby Shower’.Roy is now making hisway across the US andCanada, trekking manymiles, seeing many sitesand enjoying making manynew friends.

NEW JERSEY WELCOMES THE SUPREME REGENT

Supreme Regent CarlKrzystofczyk and PastRegent Evelyn Magarbanpresented the RoyalArcanum Life MembershipAward to JosephineWalichowski of VersatilityCouncil. She is the firstfemale member in the NewJersey Jurisdiction toreceive this distinction, andis 96 years young.

The New Jersey members weredelighted to share the ‘Royal Gift’ withofficers and friends from the New YorkGrand Council, and Sons of PolandFraternal who participated in the day’sfestivities.

NY INSTALLATION OF OFFICERSOn Thursday, June 18th at Juliano’s Caterers, a dualinstallation ceremony was held for Claremont Council forthe term of 2015 – 2016, and for New York GrandCouncil officers for the term of 2015 – 2017.

Errica Conforto and Augie Magnotta acted as the installingofficers for both Councils. Maria Bettina DiBartolo was

re-elected as Grand Regent for another two years. Therewere forty-four members and guests in attendance towitness the elections and installations of both Councils’officers.

Centennial Celebration: Officers from New Jersey-Supreme Auditor Joseph R. Macon, Regent JohnBaranowski, and Trustee Richard Romelczyk are

pictured with Reverend James Tortora and ReverendMichael Barone. The Arcanians are also officers in theOLMC Holy Name Society where they served as theorganization’s Centennial Committee for the liturgyand reception, ‘Celebrating a Century of Dedication’.

“Flipping forSummer”:Versatility Council’sCommunity ServiceCommittee Membersare shown sortingmore than 100 pairsof summer flips flopswhich were deliveredfor the homeless whoreceive aid at St.Lucy’s Shelter inJersey City. Inaddition, soap,shampoo, and showergel were donated tothe shelter which isoperated by CatholicCharities.

New Jersey supports the Troops: Grand RegentRichard Macon, FIC delivered a vast supply of ‘giftsfrom home’ to Rod Hirsch, Founder and ExecutiveDirector of Operation Shoebox New Jersey in

Somerville. Councils, members, and friends rallied forthis effort in support of service men and women.Snacks, cds, batteries, personal care items, cold

weather gear, and other gifts were donated and will besent to military personnel deployed overseas.

International Fraternal Service Project: A $1,000donation on behalf of the New Jersey Grand Council andthe Supreme Council was made to the Felician School forExceptional Children in Lodi, New Jersey. MAKE A WISH FOUNDATIONOn September 10, 2015,August and Frances Magnottaand Joseph Conforto visitedthe office of “Make A WishFoundation” in Lake Success,NY. We were greeted byPatricia H. Clemency,President and CEO, KathieLombardi, Manager,Community Alliances and JuliaMasucci, Director, DonorCare.

They were very gracious andgave us a tour of the facility.We also saw large pictures ofchildren whose wishes werefulfilled. We were told that inthe beginning, everyone wanted to go to Disney World.As they grew older and wiser, they wanted to go oncruises and visit Japan, Italy, Spain, Thailand, Kenya, Alaska,France, Australia and to New York to meet the New YorkYankees. All expenses were paid, including those of the

parents and siblings.Make A-Wish is proud ofthe manner in which itmanages the generousdonations of its supporters.

REPUBLIC COUNCIL HELPS LORDSTOWN LIONS CLUB

Once again it was the third weekend inSeptember and time for the LordstownApple Cider Festival. This year thingswere a bit different, but RepublicCouncil (of Ohio) still was able to be ofhelp to the Lions Club for this event.

The Lions Club has been pressing applecider for more than 25 years. This isone of the biggest fund raisers of theyear and all of the money raised goesback into the community. For morethan fifteen years, Republic Councilof the Royal Arcanum has providedmuch needed help with this project.

For one of the members, the weekendstarted a few days early. Chairman ofthe Supreme Council Trustees andmember of the Lordstown Lions Club,Diane Calain boarded an airplane inWest Palm Beach Florida to fly north tohelp. Diane has recently moved to PortSaint Lucie and told only one other

Lion that she was coming. However,she did tell Deputy Supreme Regent,Marsha Simpson and Grand Regent,Dave Simpson that she would be intown. With that knowledge in place,the three of them were on hand tohelp with the cider and otheractivities of the weekend.

Areas that we were able to helpincluded assistance with gettingthe apples from the bins to thepress, pressing them into cider,putting the cider into jugs andselling it. Other activities includedwere Vision Screenings, ChineseAuction and Bingo. It takes manypeople to make this weekend thesuccess that it is and plans arealready being made for next year.

During his recent visit to the United States, Pope Franciswent ‘off the cuff ’ several times and emphasized universalfraternity. He didn’t use catchy phrases or snappyslogans; rather he communicated a simple, humblemessage that fraternity is woven into the fabric ofstewardship. How relevant for us to hear the words‘fraternity’ and ‘fraternal’ used.

Stewardship is demonstrated in the good will andfellowship shared by members and friends throughservice to others and to the community. As theunderpinning of our Society’s work for more than 138years, mercy and charity are exemplified in InternationalFraternal Projects, ‘A Royal Gift’ activities, Fraternalismin Action programs, Legacy of Hope initiatives, and in themany creative, service-minded events conducted by theSupreme, Grand, and Subordinate Councils.

“Set your stakes on greatideals, the ideals thatenlarge the heart, theideals of service that makeyour talents fruitful.”These words echoed bythe Pontiff, resonate withour mission as fraternalistsand apply to our call tovolunteerism.

The Royal Arcanum’s ‘Friendship Baby Shower’ inWilliamsburg was a successful and memorable event. Thecombined talents of our members were exuberantlyfruitful; their volunteer preparations over several monthsin our US and Canadian councils culminated with abenevolent gift to Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia’sNewborn Assistance Programs. As a 501 (c) (3) charity,the programs at CCEVA provide hope and help to morethan 700 infants and their families each year. TheFraternal Department is grateful for the enthusiasticteamwork of members and friends for this summer familyactivity.

Congratulations are extended to Royal Arcanum’s 2015Fraternalist of the Year, Evelyn Magarban of VersatilityCouncil #2501 in Bayonne, New Jersey. Evelyn was alsoawarded the American Fraternal Alliance’s Fraternalist ofthe Year Award at the Alliance’s Annual Meeting held inIndianapolis in September. Her talents and service havebeen willingly shared during the past year in our Society,in the community, and in numerous volunteer roles.

I’m also happy to acknowledgeIntegrity Council #586 inPhiladelphia, Pennsylvania onbeing this year’s recipient ofthe LJD Legacy of Hope Award.Their inspiring project, ‘HolidayTime with Seniors’ benefittedSimpson House. Thecomradeship and fraternalspirit of Integrity’s membersfashioned a wonderful eventwhich lifted the hearts ofgrateful seniors.

Although winter is quickly approaching, remember thatsummer will return! Everyone’s invited to join theFraternal Events Committee and share their ideas foractivities for next year’s Session that will take place insunny Orlando, Florida.

Looking ahead, we hope towelcome the Association ofthe Sons of PolandFraternal to the RoyalArcanum. The membersare dedicated fraternalistswho are constant incharitable endeavors. I’mcertain that their talents,when coupled with those of

the Arcanians, will enhance our continual growth ofcharitable and fraternal programs.

Soon families and friends will gather to celebrate theholidays. What better time to be encouraged by thepurposeful words of Pope Francis! We can set our stakeon a great goal—100 percent of our jurisdictionsparticipating in a holiday activity to share fraternity. It canbe a food or clothing collection for a shelter, a ‘hands on’meal preparation for a seniors’ residence, a visit to theVeterans’ Hospital, or whatever your members choose todo as a council to help brighten the lives of others. Andin the truest sense of gratitude, let us offer a prayer ofthanksgiving for the bountiful blessings we receive and thegift of freedom we enjoy.

DONATIONS FOR THE GILROY COMPASSION CENTER

On June 6, 2015 the GrandCouncil of Illinois held itsSession at WildfireRestaurant in Schaumburg,IL. All reports were read by

the officers. The nomination and the electionof the new slate of officers were held.

Following the election, Supreme Deputy DavidCovelli installed the new officers. Newly electedGrand Regent Gregory Hahn then spoke abouthis background in the Royal Arcanum and sharedsome new ideas he has for bringing new membersinto the organization, as well as the upcomingmini-vacation of the Supreme Council inWilliamsburg, Virginia. He encouraged everyoneto attend the mini session.

The business of the Grand Council of Illinois wascompleted and the meeting adjourned.

A luncheon followed the meeting with thirty-fivemembers in attendance.

"Emergency" back packs for theGilroy Compassion Center:When the Gilroy CompassionCenter called and said they neededbackpacks for their homeless kidsright away, Grace Howell, JoanieFrancis and Jim O'Neill sprung intoaction. We raced around to get thebackpacks and all the paper, pens,pencils, calculators, rulers, etc. neededfor the kids to start school. We wereable to help these children in need.Unfortunately, the GilroyCompassion Center has to move, sothey do not know where thesehomeless people and children will gofor help. It really makes us sad toknow that we cannot help so manyhomeless in our state.

San Jose's Backpack Project was a success

Sylvia G. Ferry was bornin Lackawanna, NY andlived in Massachusetts forthe last 54 years. Shedied in July after a valiantfour year battle withstage IV lung cancer.

A member of AlphaAgassiz Council #1 ofMassachusetts, Sylviaserved as Regent andwas a Representative to

the Supreme Council in 2006, 2010, 2014. Together withher husband, Donald she enjoyed every Session and MiniVacation from 1996 through 2012 and made many friendsat these fraternal gatherings.

An avid fraternalist, she was also a 50-year member of theArlington Emblem Club of Massachusetts. Sylvia was agiver and one of her many endearing qualities was alwayslending a hand to anyone who needed it.

Two of Sylvia’s greatest passions were baking andceramics. She started classes in the early 70’s and becamea Glare Certified Instructor in the early 90’s. A true artistand master of the craft, Sylvia probably made over athousand ceramic pieces, including gifts for the holidays,family members, for herself, and created many speciallydesigned pieces at the requests of others.

Sylvia is survived by her husband of 54 years, Donald Sr.;daughter, Deborah Flaherty & husband James; son, DonaldJr.; and grandchildren Ryan and Joshua Flaherty, JamiePelletier and husband, Jacob; brother, Joe Sieczka; andseveral nieces and nephews.--------May she rest in peace.

SUPREME REGENT CELEBRATES‘A ROYAL GIFT’ IN NEW JERSEY

On August 29, 2015,Supreme Regent Carl andFirst Lady ChristineKrzystofczyk joined theNew Jersey members foran entertaining afternoonof song, games, and sweettreats with the FelicianSisters at the Our Lady ofLourdes Care Center inLodi, New Jersey. Fortysisters enjoyed the eventand were most grateful forthe fellowship and

generous spirit of theRoyal Arcanummembers. Many of thesisters are confined dueto ailing health orphysical disabilities, sothey were thrilled toenjoy a fun time as thefraternalists providedlaughter and goodcheer, celebratingfriendship and fraternalism.

‘Roy Al’ brought smiles and laughter to the Sistersduring our tour. He even learned some Polish, French,

CHARITY PICNIC FOR HEART OF THE VALLEY

On September 12, 2015, theCalifornia Grand Council/ San JoseCouncil held their annual Picnic atMorgan Park. Our Juniors enjoyedthe games and food, and toys weredistributed, thanks to the RoyalArcanum.

This was a special picnic also inhonor of our guest, the Heart ofthe Valley. The organizationprovides services to seniors in theSanta Clara Valley. Led byvolunteer coordinator KirbyCristobal, these wonderful peopleprovide escorted transportation,yard and home work, shopping,errands, visitations, house projectsand numerous other activities allfor senior citizens who cannotperform these tasks. The picnicwas dedicated to "give back" toHeart of the Valley volunteers andto thank them for all they do.

Everyone had a great timepartaking in the food, games, andother activities. Special thanks toGrand Regent Joanie Francis,Regent Gracie Howell and LeslieHein, who managed the games.Everyone had a great day.

WOUNDED WARRIORS PROJECTOn July 20, 2015, Augie and Ivisited the office of the WoundedWarriors Project at 370 SeventhAvenue in New York City. Wemet Scott E. Wright, BusinessDevelopment Specialist, andpresented him a check in theamount of $500, which was givenby the Supreme Council andClaremont Council.

Scott was very gracious, taking uson a tour of the office. One of thehighlights he showed us was apiece of steel from the WorldTrade Center. Seeing this wasextremely emotional for me,

especially because I was workingon the 23rd Floor of the ChryslerBuilding in New York City andfrom the window in my office, Isaw the second plane hit thetower.

During the tour of the office, wesaw photos of men and womenwith no legs or arms; it was veryemotional seeing what theyendured. The motto is “duty,honor, courage, commitment,integrity, country and service.”

Old State House, which was highlighted withsome fascinating storiesshared by the tour guide. Asthe only Northerner in thetour group, I think that a fewof my views expressed wereinteresting to hear when wediscussed some historicalmoments.

Roy Al Arcanum wasintroduced by SupremeRegent Carl Krzystofczyk andwas certainly a hit as he madeappearances aroundWilliamsburg and continues tobe seen on our FaceBook page. I attended the annual meeting ofthe American Fraternal Alliance atthe JW Marriott Hotel inIndianapolis, Indiana fromSeptember 10-12, 2015. I enjoyedthe meeting and will benefit fromthe knowledge gained throughparticipating in workshops,associating with delegates fromother societies, and by listening toprominent speakers. A greatprogram was topped off by havingone of Royal Arcanum’s memberspresented with the NationalFraternalist of the Year Award.Yes! Evelyn Magarban of VersatilityCouncil in Bayonne, New Jersey,was honored as the Alliance’s 2015Fraternalist of the Year. Ourwebsite, www.royalarcanum.com,features a short video thathighlights a few clips of Evelyn’svolunteerism and accomplishmentsof the past year.

An interesting workshop that Iattended was focused on selling lifeinsurance “Online”. This method ofserving consumers has been a topicof discussion at several of ourBoard Meetings. The softwarenecessary to setup online productsis expensive. After much thought, Iconcluded that if one product, suchas the Simplified Issue Plan is set uponline, success can be on thehorizon. Today it seems like everyone istalking about the environment. AtRoyal Arcanum we are trying to doour small part to make the worldbetter. We have installed energyefficient fluorescent lights throughoutour building. We have placedrecycling baskets at everyone’s deskand have adopted a practice ofscanning as much as possible toreduce the use of paper. We haveinstalled an energy efficient boilerwhich can use gas or oil. Wecontinually strive to act as goodcitizens by helping people and theenvironment. Pope Francis visited theUnited States in September. If wefollow his message of truth,compassion and respect for all, wewill make this a better world.
