When building services engi- neers and contractors, N G Bailey required a pumping package to heat the swimming pool and buildings at Man- chester United’s new training ground, they knew that timed delivery and quality of manufac- ture were of prime importance. Luckily the answer was close at hand.

Local pump makers, Holden and Brooke, whose reputation stretches as far back as the foot- ball club’s, responded quickly by manufacturing cold water booster sets, heating pumps and pressurisation units in record

time. Completion and delivery was achieved within 14 days of receipt of order. Commissioning at the new training ground was undertaken by the company’s own field service engineers shortly afterwards.

Jane Dawson, director of Holden and Brooke commented wryly, “this was a good opportu- nity to demonstrate our speed and service, and even though many of our personnel are, like myself, life-long United support- ers, we would of course respond in the same way to any order... even if it came from [rival club] Arsenal.”
