WHAT IS GOAL SETTING?

Goalsettingisanimportantpartof

sport.

Some successful athletes has

worked towards, and achieved, a

goalthattheysetoutfortheircareer.

Othershavechased theirdreams

andachievedthedesiredresultsby

workingthroughaprocess.

They may not have followed a

deliberate goal setting format but

achievedtheresultswiththesame

Setting goals:

base plus slugging through hiscareer.

Youmightnotrecognizehisname,butyoushouldrecognizethisquote.

“Never let the fearofstrikingoutkeepyoufromplayingthegame.”

This mentality applies to goal-setting.

Rather than focusing on the

negatives,focusonwhatyouwantto

achieve (your goal) and work

towardsthat.

Goalsettinggetsyoutowritethosethings that are important, urgent,attractive,andachievableandgivesyoutheinspirationrequiredtoreachyourgoals.

Achievingyourgoalsgives youasense of fulfillment, happiness,contentmentandjoy.

Goal setting is away ofmentallystronger and making it easier toachieveeverythingyouwishto.

Onceyouhavethestrengthofmindto defeat barriers and reach yourgoalsyouarewellandtrulyontheroadtosuccess.

There are resources available tohelpyouwithyourowngoalprocessordiscusswithyourcoachtosetyourgoalsifyourequirehelp.

Establishedresourcesgiveyouthebasis for your steps and make iteasierforyou.

At the end of your goal writingsession you should have definitegoals.

Thegoalswilldeveloptheladderforyou to follow in your developmentandimprovementinthissport.

Theresourcesforyourgoalsettingare a guideline and start theproceduretohelpyouthinkandget

HOW DO YOU SET GOALS?

Goal setting is a procedure witharrangedsegments.

You should work through thesesegments in order to assist you insuccessfullyachievingyourgoals.

Implementinga strategy to reachyourgoalisbeneficialinmanyways.

Strategies give you a process toassist you in what you want toachieve.

Basically,youaredesigningaplan

togetfrompointAtoB.

desire and commitment that isrequired.

Goals keep you focused andmotivated,theyhelpyouseethelightattheendofthetunnelandpointyouintherightdirectionthroughdifficultstagesorwhenotherswouldgiveup.

Babe Ruth is one of the mostfamousbaseballplayersofall time.HeplayedMajorLeagueBaseballfor22years.

Ruth was renown for his battingbrillianceandhesetcareer recordsforhomeruns,runsbattedinandon-

started.

Thisguidelinedoesn’thave tobeyourgoalsettingformbutyouneedto start the procedure somewhereandyoucanchangethistosuityou.

Agoalsettingresourceisaguidetocreateyourgoalsettingpassageway, and gives you assistance tounderstand the path towardsachieving your overall goal in thesport.

Onceyourgoal iswrittendown itbecomes a reference point andreminderofhowandwhatyouare

endeavouringtoachieve.

Bepreparedtoadjustyourgoals.

Situationsdochangeandthereisaneedtomakeadjustmentsandmaketheadjustmentforyourdevelopment.

Yourgoalsettingpagecanbeusedtoevaluatewhereyouareatpresentandhelpwiththenecessarychangesthatyouneedtomakekeepingyouontrack.Onwardandupwards.

Remember to read your goalsregularlyandfocusonwhatyouwanttoachieve.

Asuccessfulplanclearlyindicatesinparticularwhatyouwantandthedesiredconclusion.

WHAT TO DO WHEN YOUSUCCEED?

When you succeed you shouldreward yourself and acknowledgethatachievement.

This will indicate that you areheadingtowardsyourmaingoal.

Continually setting goals willchallenge you and keep youmotivatedforachievement.

Exampleforsettingagoal:

At training in the 96 bowl block drill

I will have 50 bowls within a mat

length or an agreed distance from the

jack and I will work towards this by

doing the drill five times over the next

five training sessions.

Itisrealistic, preciseandthismeansyou will know whether you haveachievedyourgoal.

Goalscanbeshort, mediumorlongtime segments or they can bestraightforward or more difficult.Goals relate to skills required toimproveordevelopyoutoreachyourmajorgoal.

SMART goalscanfollowasimpleprocedureasbelow:

Specificgoal:What youdesire toachieve

Measurablegoal:Measuredagainstastartingpoint

Achievable:Shouldbedifficult,butwithinreach

Relevant:Mustbeinlinewithyourindividualgoals

Timing:Willhaveatimecompletiondateorachievabledate

Twofinaltipsfromme:

Dothehardyardsonthegreen.

Bepreparedtoacceptconstructivecriticismthatisintendedtohelpsteeryou along the pathway to gainsuccess.

Believeinyourself.Ifyouhavetherightamountofselfbelief(notarrogance),youwillachieveyourgoal.

Specificgoal:Whatyoudesire toachieve

Measurable goal: Measuredagainstastartingpoint

Achievable:Shouldbedifficult,butwithinreach

Relevant:Mustbeinlinewithyourindividualgoals

Timing:Willhaveatimecompletiondateorachievabledate

Startwithanachievablegoal.Writeyourachievablegoaldownandputitwhereyoucanseeiteveryday.

Planhowyoucanachieveyourgoal.(Nothingiswonwithoutaplan).

Focusonyourwrittengoalasitwillhelpyouwhenyouhavethoseresultsnotinyourfavour.Don’tdwellonpastresultsorfuturepossibilities,concentrateonthepresent.

Keepyourgoalsimple.Simplethingssetasolidfoundationandwillhelpyoumoveontomorecomplexgoals.

In tough times, remember your goal. steps will rebuildconfidence, butoverconfidentisaformulafordisaster, sokeepyourconfidencelevelsincheck.

SomeofQueensland’scountryjuniorshadachancetolearnfromthebestlastmonth,aspartofajuniorcoachingdayatNorthDalbyBowlsClub.

Ten promising youngsters from North Dalby, South and WestToowoombatookpartinthecoachingafternoon, whichwashailedasagreatsuccess.

Itwasnotjustoldhandswhogotachancetolearnmoreaboutbowls,buttherewerealsothreebeginnersattheclinicwhoallimprovedtheirbowlinginthe5-hoursession.

QueenslandcoachBillCornehlsledthesession,offeringone-on-onetimetothebowlers.

Each player received about 20 minutes of individual time withCornehls, tohelpcorrectanyproblems theyhadwith theirdeliverytechnique.

Aswellasindividualcoaching,Cornehlssetupnumerousactivitiesforallthebowlerstofinetunetheirskillsthroughouttheafternoon.

NorthDalbysecretary,SallyNellen,saidtheafternoonwasincrediblywellreceivedbyallofthekids,withtheonlyhiccupcomingintryingtowindtheeventup.

“Everybodyagreedthatitwasanexcellentclinic,”Nellensaid.

“Wehadtoturnthelightsofftogetthekidsoffthegreen.Itwasagreatproblemtohave.”

It was not just the juniors picking up some of Cornehls’ bowlingwisdomattheclinic,Nellensaid.

“Theparentswerearoundandtheymanagedtopickupathingortwofromtheafternoonaswell.Theyallenjoyeditimmensely,”shesaid.

Withthesuccessofthefirstjuniorcoachingclinic,Nellensaidtheclubwouldbeconsideringdoingasimilarafternoonforadultsaswell.
