FieldCare SFE500FDT-based Plant Asset Management tool

Application

FieldCare is Endress+Hauser's universal FDT-certified,

Windows-based tool for Plant Asset Management. It can

configure all intelligent field devices in a plant and

supports in managing them. By using status information,

it also provides a simple but effective means of checking

their health.

FieldCare is scalable, offering simple device setup, device

maintenance management, condition-based

maintenance and life-cycle management according to

license option. It can be upgraded at any time to extend

functionality.

Function and System Design

Function

Field Device Tool (FDT)

System design

Network connection Depending upon the communcation interface offered by the device, FieldCare may be connected via a network

or point-to-point to a powered device. The software is installed on a personal or laptop computer, and the

connection made via a network card, an appropriate interface card or a USB or RS-232 modem. Access may

be via a gateway with CommDTM, or if it supports FDT, via a controller. The physical architecture is mirrored

by the nested CommDTMs and DeviceDTMs.

The devices are configured via DeviceDTMs. If the device does not have a native DTM, but is registered at a

fieldbus technology association, then it can be operated by the appropriate optional iDTM (this option is not

supported by FieldCare Device Setup). Interfaces such as PROFIBUS DP/PA couplers must be either

transparent or be supplied with a CommDTM if access is to be made to the connected devices. Devices with

4–20 mA, binary and pulse/frequency outputs cannot be operated.

FDT is a standardized interface specification that

allows the integration of intelligent devices into, for

example, asset management and process control

systems. All configuration and communication

information is carried in Device Type Management

(DTM) programs (DeviceDTMs and CommDTMs)

supplied by the vendor. The DTMs run under the

control of a FDT frame application:

• Open technology, independent of device and

system supplier

• Independent of device type (sensor, actuator,

remote I/O etc.)

• Full support of installed base

HART point-to-point

Fig. 2 shows a HART point-to-point connection via a HART power supply using the Commubox FXA195 USB/

HART modem. Since the power supply has a communication resistor, the communication resistor of the

FXA195 must be switched off. The connection can be made at the power supply module or the device terminals

as required.

If there is no communication resistor in the 4–20 mA signal loop, the FXA195 USB modem must be connected

cross the HART terminals of the device with its communication resistor switched on.

Fig. 3 shows a point-to-point connection to a battery powered WirelessHART Adapter SWA70 using the

Commubox FXA195 USB/HART modem.

Fig. 4 shows a PROFIBUS point-to-bus connection for setting up PROFIBUS DP and PROFIBUS PA devices on

the test bench or in the field using the PROFIusb PROFIBUS interface.

Fig. 5 shows a FOUNDATION fieldbus point-to-bus connection for setting up FOUNDATION fieldbus devices

on the test bench using a SFC162 module in controller mode. Further requirements are a power supply and

fieldbus power conditioner, which can be supplied with the SFC162.

Interfaces to Endress+Hauser environment

W@M interface With a PAM license and W@M account, a user can connect to the W@M internet portal or W@M Enterprise

application via the "Device in Net" function. This allows access to the common equipment record, spare part

finder etc. as well as various W@M applications such as comparison of current to past configurations.

SOAP and e-mail interface The Condition Monitoring module, which is optionally available with the PAM license, can exchange data with

other tools via an e-mail or XML file.

Launch interface FieldCare can be embedded or started from any SCADA application by using the so-called launch interface.

FieldCare Device Setup Provides basic parameterization and diagnosis functions, and can be upgraded to the Plant Asset Management

version by purchasing the appropriate license. FieldCare Device Setup offers:
