This film magazine uses a special effect on it’s cover to tie in with the theme of the James Bond movies. The shattered glass effect suggests bullets, which link with the prop of a gun being held in the cover star’s hand. The main film featured in the magazine is clear with the main image being prominent on the cover, while two other films featured inside are captured in a smaller image at either side of the main cover story. This cover also advertises the film well, using a Bond film theme of “50 Years of 007” to attract the audience. This would attract the specific audience of those who are particularly interested in the James Bond films.

Here, Film Magazine has chosen to surround the theme of the cover solely around the film Inception, using no images from other films that may feature within the magazine. The magazine has also altered it’s logo to suit the film and it’s story by creating their masthead from a birds eye city view, a running theme within the film. The cover uses bold red text to stand out form the rest, using the unique selling point as a header with; “THE MID BLOWING ISSUE”. This suggests that the cover film is mind blowing and would encourage the audience to both buy the magazine and go and see the film.

This issue of Empire magazine has also altered it’s cover to correlate with the main film featured in the magazine. The special effect of flames on the magazine masthead fits in with the film “Hellboy” as well as the colour scheme of the cover. The cover shows a clear focus on one film, with others mentioned briefly in the cover lines without any images. The magazine uses a plug to encourage reader to read about this particular film in the magazine and perhaps go and see it. This is done through the plug that suggests exclusivity for the magazine; “FIRST LOOK!”
