For a young adult, it can sometimes be dif-ficult growing up. During these times, we are meant to be carefree and fun-loving, while hav-ing to juggle school, a job, a girlfriend or boy-friend, and family. Some say that teenage years are the most important years of your life. At this time, it is the beginning of what will form your future. Will you associate with the jocks, the cheerleaders, the nerds, or the slackers? These times are detrimental in an individual’s life, for this could determine what path one takes in life. There will always be the kids who go to college on one of the spectrum and go on to have a successful job, while on the other side of the spectrum, there are those kids who head down a more troubled path. Despite the ongoing effort to raise awareness of teen pregnancy and teen crime, some individuals need to learn the hard way. Statistics show that half of all violent crimes are committed by perpetrators under the age of 25 and each year, about 750,000 teenag-ers will get pregnant. This is just the story of one...

Michael Baumher was born January 3, 1988. A resident of the Willow Grove area, he came from divorced parents, where his childhood was spent going back and forth from home to home. Getting involved in drugs and the law dur-ing high school, Mike went in and out of group homes. No stranger with the police, Mike con-tinued to have conflicts with the law. Ultimately becoming addicted to prescription and IV drugs, he was sentenced to eight months in jail. Before entering, his son Kane Michael was born. After being released, Mike decided it was best for him and his future to call it quits with his baby’s mother and start a new life on his own. Unfortunately, having been released on pa-role for the next few years with no driver’s li-cense, it becomes difficult to find a steady job that will allow him to support himself and his son. How is it possible to move forward when there are so many odds against you?
