Open Yard Storage

Combustible materials

limited to 20 feet high

Driveways in and around

piles at least 15 feet wide

Access ways kept clear

Entire site kept clean

Clearance around lights and heating units

Aisles wide enough for largest fire fighting vehicle/equipment

Page 8: Fire Protection & Prevention

Temporary BuildingsMay not adversely affect means of exit

When inside another building:

• Non-combustible construction or 1 hour fire rated

Located at least 10 feet away from building if outside and not used to store flammable or combustible liquids, gases, etc.

Page 9: Fire Protection & Prevention

Flammable and Combustible LiquidsOnly approved

containers and portable tanks shall be used

5 – gallons and less

• Approved safety cans or DOT approved containers

Page 10: Fire Protection & Prevention

Flammable & Combustible Liquids

Cannot store in exit areas, aisles, stairways or

commonly used passage ways

25 gallons or less may be stored outside of an

approved cabinet

Materials that react with water may not be stored in the same room

Flammable & Combustible Liquid Indoor Storage

Metal cabinets are acceptable

Labeled “Flammable – Keep Away”

Cannot store more than 60 gallons of flammable or 120 gallons of combustible liquids

Exhaust system providing 6 air changes per hour
