Standard UNI EN 12845 concerns "Fixed firefighting

systems - Automatic sprinkler systems - Design,

installation and maintenance”.

This standard harmonises the execution of sprinkler

based firefighting systems on a European level,

establishing the method of construction of the fire pump

systems that can be installed in Europe, serving sprinkler

and/or hydrant firefighting networks.

IDROBIOS operates in the design, production and

worldwide distribution of products for the management

of water, constantly developing new products in

compliance with customer demands.

All the systems manufactured are individually tested in

compliance with the requirements of UNI EN 12845.

IDROBIOS fire pumps are composed of one

or more main pumps driven by an electric

motor or internal combustion engine and

equipped with a jockey pump that keeps the

system constantly pressurised without starting

the main pumps.

Designed to operate automatically in the

presence of water withdrawal demands

from any service of the firefighting system,

including:

Sprinkler systems

Hose reel systems

Hydrant systems (UNI 45 / UNI 70)

Firefighting units constructed in compliance with UNI EN 12845 and UNI 10779 standards

FIREFIGHTING

Operation

The pumps start in response to a pressure drop in the firefighting circuit.

The jockey pump is started first; if the jockey pump is unable to restore system pressure, the feed pump is started.

The feed pump is started by two pressure switches via an electrical control panel; the feed pump must run continuously

until it is stopped with a manual command to UNI EN 12845 par. 10.7.5.2; or, taking account of UNI10779 related

to hydrant circuits, the pump can be stopped automatically by means of a timer installed in the control panel, with

minimum time setting of 20 minutes.

The two pump start pressure switches must be calibrated to comply with the following pressure values:

Units with one electric pump - max pump pressure (x 0.8 bar)

Units with two electric pumps - pump 1 max pressure (x 0.8 bar)

- pump 2 max pressure (x 0.6 bar )

Example: max pressure 10 bar - pump 1 starts at 8 bar - - pump 2 starts at 6 bar -

Starting of the main pump(s) is signalled by an acoustic/visual indicator; the indicator trips also in the event of a phase loss

or power loss.

The low flow rate jockey pump is an electric centrifugal pump, generally a self-priming type of low power, designed to maintain

the system pressure and compensate for minor leakage from the firefighting circuit, thereby avoiding unnecessary starts of the

main pump(s).

The jockey pump is started automatically by a dedicated control panel and associated pressure switch set to a pressure value

that is slightly higher than the main pump pressure switch.

The jockey pump stops when system pressure is restored.

IDROBIOS offers firefighting units fully assembled on a single skid, or divided into separate modules to facilitate

transport and management of the installation spaces on the work site. The standard composition of firefighting units

preassembled on a single skid includes:

Standardised main pumps to EN733.

Pressure switches (two for each electric pump/combustion engine pump).

Glycerine-filled pressure gauges.

Water circulation connection for pump protection.

Check valve on main pump outlet for connection of a priming tank, if required (for suction lif t installation).

Double-flanged outlet manifold in painted steel.

Batteries for starting the diesel engine pump, if present.

Fuel tank constructed in compliance with EN 12845, complete with standard flexible connections,

with combustion engine pump.

Electrical panel in metal enclosure in compliance with EN 12845 for control of the main electric pump.

Electrical panel in metal enclosure in compliance with EN 12845 for control of the main combustion

engine pump.

Electrical panel for jockey pump control.

Steel skid complete with deck for electric pumps, combustion engine pump (if present), for electrical control

panels and for batteries (if present).

Membrane expansion vessels, capacity 20l.

The electrical panels installed on firefighting units comply with the following specifications, required by EN 12845:

For surface pumps

direct starting for power ratings up to 10 HP

star-delta starting for power ratings ≥ 12.5 HP

For submersible pumps:

direct starting for power ratings up to 10 HP

stator resistance starter for power ratings ≥ 12.5 HP

Firefighting units constructed in compliance with UNI EN 12845 and UNI 10779 standards

shut-of f valve.

Eccentric flanged

reductions to install on the suction

connections of the main pumps.

Direct reading flow meter

For accurate reading of the flow rate shown on

the flow meter, interpose two sections of pipe

having a length that is 5 times the diameter (DNA)

of the pipe upstream and downstream of the flow

meter.

Antivibration flexible compensators

If the system includes a combustion

engine pump it will include a flexible

compensator to dampen vibrations.

Clapet check valve

installed on the pumps outlet line.

Local alarm panel for

remotable visual - acoustic

alarms.

FIREFIGHTING

Water/water cooling circuit with heat exchanger, available

on request. The system draws the necessary volume of water to

cool the engine directly from the main pump; take account of

this flow rate and exclude it from the calculation for firefighting

duties (to select the fire pump correctly add the design flow

rate to the flow required by the heat exchanger).

The configuration of the cooling system with water/water heat

exchanger includes a by-pass circuit complete with shut-off

valves, pressure reducers, pressure gauge, and "Y" filters.

100 l priming tank (for LH risk class) and 500 l for OH, HHP

and HHS.

Connection with asynchronous three-phase electric motor made by means of a flexible spacer coupling.

The firefighting unit is complete with a main electric pump mounted on a skid made of painted steel profiles, wired to

the electrical control panel installed on the skid vertical frame.

The supply of the IDROBIOS firefighting unit includes the following components on the suction line: shut-of f valve and

eccentric reduction mounted on the suction side of the main electric pump.

The system is designed for hotels with up to 100 beds. The fire-protection water distribution activities for this type of building are governed by art. 11.3.1 of Italian ministerial decree 9 April 1994 and by Italian ministerial decree 6 October 2003. The former decree requires that: Hotels with a number of beds from 25 up to 100 must be equipped with DN 20 hose reels. The hose reels can be connected to the normal water mains on the condition it is able to feed the two hose reels in the most hydraulically unfavourable position in addition to the normal services, assuring for each of the foregoing hose reels a flow rate of at least 35 l/min at a minimum pressure of 1.5 bar, when both hoses are open. The water supply must assure water output for at least 60 min. If the water mains is unable to meet the foregoing condition the system shown alongside can be installed, comprising a water storage tank having total capacity of 2000 litres, two submersible electric pumps, one of which a jockey pump, control panels, alarm panel, and hydraulic assembly.
