This week is Children’s Mental Health week and the theme is ‘Express yourself’. We
express ourselves in lots of ways both in words and actions. Looking back over the
lessons this week I can see lots of opportunities for the girls to express themselves
and doing so with great flourish! We will be including lots of the amazing work that
the girls have produced for Children’s Mental Health Week in next week’s Newsletter.
From role play in Nursery to creating jokes in Form VI, this week we have seen
children writing riddles, poetry about revolting food, writing stories and exploring new vocabulary, art
work that encourages the girls to think about their inner self as well as their outer appearance and
exploring different types of music.
In Reception, Ophelia and Anaiah have worked together to create a fantastic scene from the Lighthouse
Keepers Lunch using Lego models, craft resources and pictures. In FV Catherine has composed an
extension piece to Beethoven’s ‘Moonlight Sonata’. Music, art, poetry, discussions and writing all give
the girls opportunities to express themselves, their ideas, opinions and feelings.
HRH the Duchess of Cambridge recorded a video message to mark Children’s Mental Health week. The
following link has the message along with some additional resources:
www.childrensmentalhealthweek.org.uk Over the weekend we could all find ways to express ourselves
and explore things that make us happy.
Nelson Mandela once said ‘Live life as though nobody is watching and express yourself as though
everyone is listening’. Have the confidence to express yourself and know that what you do and say is
important and valued.
Finally to the girls, in the words of the singer/songwriter Labrinth ’It’s your time to shine, express
yourself!’
Have a wonderful weekend.

The children had such fun in Nature garden. They looked at information books on mini beasts and then
went on a mini beast hunt using magnifying glasses. They then made their own mini beast from clay. The
children have also carried on with their super hero theme and made their own puppets. This is a great
way for the children to think of their own ideas, select the resources they need and then create!
Chloe from Nursery enjoyed being a
superhero with Jumpstart Johnny.
She has loved the superhero theme.
What a lovely photo
Mrs Newton, Mrs Smith and Mrs McGreevy

This half term the children in Reception have been looking at the story, 'The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch',
by Ronda Armitage. This week they were tasked with sounding out a list of adjectives to describe the
scavenging seagulls in the story, before writing their own 'Wanted' posters. The work produced has been
incredible and we are so pleased with how the children's writing is progressing.
We have also been starting to think about Chinese New Year and the girls have had lots of fun creating
decorations, including masks, lanterns, and even origami animals!
Orla
Diya FI participated and completed The
Reading Agency Winter Mini-Challenge. Here
she is with her certificate.
It has been an incredibly busy week in FI. The girls have learned about command sentences this week. I was
asked to make coffee (Matilde), find the answers to riddles (Anjula), mark Ashaiya's work and stop eating
sweets (Carolina). Sorry, Carolina, I haven't managed that one yet... Ariana sent in a great picture of herself
and big sister Arissa playing a 'command sentence' game.
An Islamic story, 'Abdul and the Prophet' explained the importance of supporting others by putting their
needs before our own. The girls wrote that helping others made them feel really good. Super pictures FI!
We have been exploring our Weather topic further, this week looking in more detail at the Polar and
Tropical climates. Anjula has been busy finding information in her atlas and all the girls drew amazing
pictures of life in the Tropics. Thinking about the amount of ice in the Polar regions, the girls froze different
liquids with fascinating results. Aleena noticed that frozen Coca Cola has 'lots of holes and looked like a
honeycomb'. Thasmai told me that when boiling water is frozen it is clear, but salt water becomes
cloudy. Ayla really enjoyed doing this experiment as we can see!
Maths was all about Shapes this week. So many discoveries: a square sticker can tesselate (Ariana). An L
shape can tessellate (Sophia). Triangles and upside-down triangles fit together (Ashaiya). Online symmetry
games were very popular. The girls were able to find lots of 3d shapes at home and start to describe them
confidently. Vicky's photo shows us just how busy she was!

In Form II we
have been
looking at
the story 'My
Uncle is a
Hunkle'. We
have done
some
fantastic
writing about
our favourite
parts of the
story and
ordering the
events of the
story
correctly.
Form III have had another busy week:
Annabel made a handmade box at the weekend with her new tools and tool box (which is bigger
than Daddy’s) along with cloth hot bowl holder, with her sewing machine. She is planning to
make more and sell them from her new company AMB FASHION. Watch this space!
Lots of girls have been inspired to bake and create in the kitchen. Harriet made a wonderful
heart shaped chocolate brownie; Elina made a very impressive chocolate lolly and Inaya made
some fantastic cupcakes. I hope they all tasted as good as they look!
The girls thoroughly enjoyed Mrs Hammond's 'Express Yourself' lesson and thought of lots of
creative ways to express their feelings and emotions. Emma impressed us all with the circuit that
she created in her garden - it included croquet, hula hooping, running and some archery. She
even had time to toast some marshmallows in her firepit!
Lots of girls took part in the RSPB birdwatch at the weekend and managed to identify a huge
amount of birds, including some Parakeets.
Form III have also been expressing themselves through their artwork. This week's challenge was
to create a rain of colour picture, inspired by the artist Mark Allente. The results were very
impressive.

Magic by Eli K
Magic
Magic, magic it’s all around us, Just open your big eyes wide. It’s over here, it's over there, It’s everywhere!
A magic tree, a magic book. You might even find a magic rook. It’s over here, it’s over there, It’s everywhere!
So if you do see a witch, Or a wizard (I don’t care), Their magic will be more, Than you can bear!
Their magic will go fizzle pop, And might never, ever stop. So be alert, be aware, You might even turn into a ferocious bear.
The magic tree, so far away, In the wind it sways and sways It’s over here, it’s over there It’s everywhere!
I’m making a snowman when it snows
I use a carrot for his nose I put a hat upon his head
I gave him gloves green and red
I gave him raisins for his smile
Then I leave and play a while When I come back his face looks
funny
His nose was eaten by a bunny

Royal Academy of Arts Young Artist’s Summer Show
Submissions are now open for the Young Artists' Summer Show, an exciting
opportunity for young artists aged 5-19 to exhibit their work online and onsite at the
Royal Academy of Arts. Submissions are open until 26 April 2021 and judging will
take place in May 2021, ready for the online and onsite exhibitions to open in
Summer 2021.
Now in its third year, the show remains free and open to all young artists studying in
the UK and at British schools overseas.
Each student can submit up to three artworks of any type and there is no theme.
When you enter, the RA will ask for images of your artwork (in JPG, PNF or GIF
format which does not exceed 5MB), plus some information about the piece such as
title, size and a little text about the artwork and why you made it. Your artwork will be
seen by our panel of judges and the selected pieces will be shown in our online
exhibition. Some of the artworks will also be shown at the Royal Academy of Arts.
Prizes are awarded each year for two inspiring artworks from each key stage, as
chosen by the President of the Royal Academy, and you can also vote for your
favourite artwork in our annual People’s Choice Award.
I have registered our school for entries. Parents will need to sign and submit a
declaration form which I will send to you on request and email the photograph/s to me
A pdf about how to photograph your daughter’s artworks can be found on our website
under the Remote Learning tab/Parent Guides.
