“‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your

mind.’ This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your

neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” Matthew

22:37-40

We all need a little love in our life. Actually we need a lot of love in our life. Love goes two ways, we

receive love and we share love with others. God loves us and wants us to love God in return and share

God’s love with others as well. Jesus gave this love for God and others as the two greatest command-

ments.

When we look around the world and in our country there doesn’t seem to be a lot of love being shared.

Most of what we see on the news is about war, terrorism, hate crimes, political differences, prejudice and

disrespect. But if we look for it there are exceptions where people are reaching out to one another in love.

We aren’t going to be able to change the whole world, at least not all at once. We can however influence

the little part of the world we live in. We can show our love to God and to one another in our lives and the

lives of those we interact with.

Jesus had Matthew the tax collector and Simon the Zealot both as disciples. They were probably about

as far apart as someone could get politically, yet they both followed Jesus. We may not agree with one an-

other on politics or a lot of other things, but we can still follow Jesus and love one another.

Faith Builders in February

In February, we will be discussing “The Birthing of a New Community,” as outlined in Paul’s letter to the Galatians. Galatia was not a single community or congregation, but churches in a region in of modern-day Turkey, an area of the world that is often in the current news. Our topics are “Living in Harmony”, “Christian Free-dom”, “Life in the Spirit”, and “A Spirit Filled Life”. We invite you to come begin your Sun-day worship with coffee, discussion and fellow-ship. Mike and Linda Leachner joined First United Methodist

Church in December 2016. Mike has been a part of

the Wednesday work crew and both Mike and Linda are

serving on different committees. Welcome! We’re glad

you’re here!

Graduating seniors and college students

(undergraduates only) who are interested in com-

pleting a Memorials Scholarship application need to

begin the process. Deadline for completing and

returning these applications to the church office is

March 1st. Please be aware of the March 1st dead-

line and understand that late applications may be

denied due to lack of funding availability. Applica-

tions are available in the church office, on the web-

site, or you may contact Marla at secretary@firstumcfsks.org and she’ll be

glad to send you the application.

her funeral service. This ministry is appreciated by the family since it gives them a place to gather for

conversation and have a meal on the day of the funeral.

Friendship Soup Lunch - The Friendship Soup Lunch will be February 17th beginning at 11:30 a.m. and lasting un-

til 1:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall at FUMC. The soup lunch this month is sponsored by the United Methodist Women.

The menu will include chili and a variety of soups, desserts, and a drink. Free will donations will be accepted.
