First United Methodist Church Newsletter FEBRUARY, 2017 Volume 21, Number 2 Pastor Steve Cole SUNDAY SCHOOL 9:30 WORSHIP SERVICE 10:30 From the Colemine “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” Matthew 22:37-40 We all need a little love in our life. Actually we need a lot of love in our life. Love goes two ways, we receive love and we share love with others. God loves us and wants us to love God in return and share God’s love with others as well. Jesus gave this love for God and others as the two greatest command- ments. When we look around the world and in our country there doesn’t seem to be a lot of love being shared. Most of what we see on the news is about war, terrorism, hate crimes, political differences, prejudice and disrespect. But if we look for it there are exceptions where people are reaching out to one another in love. We aren’t going to be able to change the whole world, at least not all at once. We can however influence the little part of the world we live in. We can show our love to God and to one another in our lives and the lives of those we interact with. Jesus had Matthew the tax collector and Simon the Zealot both as disciples. They were probably about as far apart as someone could get politically, yet they both followed Jesus. We may not agree with one an- other on politics or a lot of other things, but we can still follow Jesus and love one another. SUNDAY SCHOOL 9:30 WORSHIP SERVICE 10:30

From the Colemine

“‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your

mind.’ This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your

neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” Matthew

22:37-40

We all need a little love in our life. Actually we need a lot of love in our life. Love goes two ways, we

receive love and we share love with others. God loves us and wants us to love God in return and share

God’s love with others as well. Jesus gave this love for God and others as the two greatest command-

ments.

When we look around the world and in our country there doesn’t seem to be a lot of love being shared.

Most of what we see on the news is about war, terrorism, hate crimes, political differences, prejudice and

disrespect. But if we look for it there are exceptions where people are reaching out to one another in love.

We aren’t going to be able to change the whole world, at least not all at once. We can however influence

the little part of the world we live in. We can show our love to God and to one another in our lives and the

lives of those we interact with.

Jesus had Matthew the tax collector and Simon the Zealot both as disciples. They were probably about

as far apart as someone could get politically, yet they both followed Jesus. We may not agree with one an-

other on politics or a lot of other things, but we can still follow Jesus and love one another.

Our topics are “Living in Harmony”, “Christian Free-dom”, “Life in the Spirit”, and “A Spirit Filled Life”. We invite you to come begin your Sun-day worship with coffee, discussion and fellow-ship. Do you have high cholesterol or high blood pressure? Have members of your family suffered from these ailments? Do you have a poor diet? If you answer “yes” to any of these questions, you may want to consider being screened through the services of Life Line Screening. Life Line Screening uses ultrasound technology to view the plaque build up in your carotid arteries, the main arteries that carry blood to the brain. Blockages in these arteries are a leading cause of stroke. We are pleased to host this Life Line Screening event on 3/14/2017 at First United Methodist Church. Register for a Wellness Pack-age which includes 4 vascular tests and osteoporosis screening from $149 ($139 with our member discount). All five screenings take 60-90 minutes to complete. In order to register for this event and to receive a $10 discount off any pack-age priced above $129, please call 1-888-653-6441 or visit www.lifelinescreening.com/advantagemembers.
